Boston Celtics draft Hugo Gonzalez with No. 28 overall pick

The Boston Celtics selected Hugo Gonzalez with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. It is the second first-round pick made by Brad Stevens during his tenure as president of basketball operations. Gonzalez is a 6-foot-6 wing who played off the bench with Real Madrid during the 2024-25 season. He averaged just 3.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in just over 10 minutes per game. At 19, Gonzalez is a developing prospect but is known most for his defensive ability, particularly within a team scheme. Jonathan Givony of reports that the team plans to bring Gonzalez over to Boston next season and he will not be a draft-and-stash. Advertisement Gonzalez has played his three seasons with Real Madrid and for the Spanish youth national team according to Real GM. His biggest weakness includes his outside shot where he is knocking down just 27 percent of his attempts over the past three years. He's also not much of a shot creator or perimeter shooter but is a strong cutter and at-the rim finisher according to Yahoo! Sports. Boston now is projected to have 14 players under contract for next season although several of those players are on non-guaranteed deals. Boston also has the No. 32 overall pick to use during day two of the NBA Draft on Thursday. This post will be updated. More Celtics content Read the original article on MassLive.
