Driver arrested after 66-year-old woman dies in car crash at Geylang pasar malam
The police said they were alerted to the incident at Block 52A Circuit Road at about 11.45pm.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.
The car's driver, a 40-year-old man, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and driving without a licence and insurance.
Police investigations are ongoing.
In photos posted on Facebook page SGRV Front Man on July 12, showing the aftermath of the accident, a GetGo car is seen to have rammed into the side of a flight of stairs.
The car appears to have crashed into a pasar malam stall.
Bits of what appear to be food remnants are seen splattered across the top and back of the car.
Surrounding the car are items – including a table, styrofoam boxes and plastic bags – in a state of disarray.
In a statement on July 13, GetGo said preliminary information showed the car was driven by an individual who was not an authorised user.
'This is a severe breach of our terms of service, which are designed to protect our community,' it said, adding that it is cooperating fully with the police.
'Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of the deceased.'

Suspect in Vallejo $2,600 Pokémon card robbery arrested after crash, police say
Police in Vallejo said Monday that a recent traffic collision led to the arrest of a suspect in multiple robberies, including the alleged theft of more than $2,500 in collectible Pokémon cards. On July 7, officers were called to the 100 block of Nugent Drive on reports of a disturbance. Two victims said they met with a buyer to sell trading cards after arranging a sale through an online marketplace. The cards were valued at $2,600, according to police. During the meeting, the buyer inspected the cards before claiming he sent the payment. As the victims asked to confirm the transaction, police said the suspect attempted to flee the scene on an electric scooter with the cards. Police said one of the victims attempted to stop the suspect, but the suspect used pepper spray on the victim as he fled the scene. The victims were able to recover the cards and provided a description of the suspect. Officers determined that there were two other recent robberies that shared the same suspect description, location and assaults involving pepper spray. Officers conducted a follow-up investigation and brought in the victims of the two other robberies for a photo lineup. "Each victim independently identified the same suspect as the person responsible for the robbery and assault," police said in a statement. The next day, officers responded to a traffic collision suspect near Tuolumne Street and Broadway. Police said one of the people involved in the crash matched the suspect description and was detained at the scene. A records check determined that the suspect lived near the scene of the robbery. Officers also seized several items from the suspect, including a ski mask, electric scooter and cellphone. After being medically cleared, the suspect was booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of robbery and assault with a chemical agent.

Former Beaver County officer gets probation after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in bystander's death
A former Beaver County police officer was sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of a bystander at a shooting scene. Just as trial testimony was set to start Tuesday, 38-year-old John Hawk pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and related offenses for assaulting 48-year-old Kenneth Vinyard, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced. Prosecutors said Vinyard was a bystander at a shooting scene outside the Walmart in Center Township on Nov. 6, 2022. When he walked up to police to provide potential evidence, prosecutors said Hawk, who was off-duty at the time, confronted Vinyard and pulled him away. Shortly after, prosecutors said Hawk struck Vinyard in the chest and performed a leg-sweep maneuver, knocking Vinyard to the ground. Vinyard, who hit his head on the pavement, died at the hospital. The medical examiner ruled that blunt force trauma and "accompanying stress inflicted by Hawk" contributed to his death, the attorney general's office said. "This sworn officer's actions contributed to the death of a man who was not a threat to anyone at the scene of this shooting," Sunday said in a press release. "My team was fully prepared to try this case, but, after selecting a jury on Monday, we were informed the defendant wished to plead guilty." The trial was scheduled to start on Tuesday, and prosecutors were ready to call up to 15 witnesses. In 2023, Vinyard's estate was awarded nearly $1 million to settle a lawsuit against Center Township and Hawk over his death. The assault was recorded on cell phone video. Deborah Little, Vinyard's sister, told KDKA-TV it's been "absolute hell, torture" since her brother died. She said she thought Hawk should be in prison, saying "he took my brother's life without reason." "Nothing that will happen this week will bring him back, and it won't take away the hurt and the tragedy it has done to our family," Little said. "But I promised him when he died that I would fight until I could fight no more, and that's what I intend to do."
