Gulf Air to Start Direct Flights to New York This October
The airline will operate three flights a week to New York using the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, known for its comfortable and modern cabins.
At first, the flights will use Terminal 1 at JFK Airport, but Gulf Air plans to move to a new terminal in June 2026 to give passengers a better travel experience.
Gulf Air CEO Jeffrey Goh said: 'We're happy to return to the U.S. with direct flights to New York. This new route gives travelers more options and helps connect Bahrain with North America and beyond.'

This move is part of Bahrain's efforts to strengthen global connections and make travel easier for people between the Kingdom and major cities around the world.

DEF CON Villages Debut
TDT | Manama Bahrain is set to become the region's new epicentre for cybersecurity innovation, with the third Arab International Cybersecurity Conference & Exhibition (AICS 2025) unveiling the launch of the Arab world's first DEF CON Villages. The announcement was made yesterday at a press conference held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Prime Minister. The event, scheduled for 5 to 6 November at Exhibition World Bahrain, is organised for the third consecutive year by Faalyat. DEF CON Villages debut The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), in collaboration with DEF CON, one of the world's most iconic hacker communities, confirmed that the Villages will focus on artificial intelligence, space, cloud security, and industrial control systems. Interactive Demo Labs will accompany the Villages, offering hands-on tech experiences to researchers, startups, and students. H.E. Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, CEO of the NCSC, said the collaboration with DEF CON represented a leap forward in positioning Bahrain as a global cybersecurity hub. 'It's a platform to exchange global expertise, showcase innovation, and prepare the region for evolving cyber threats,' he said. Youth front and centre The event will include a youth empowerment programme, mentorship initiatives, and a Capture the Flag (CTF) cyber contest to spotlight local and international talent. The NCSC also announced a strategic partnership with the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) to deliver specialised training for emerging cybersecurity professionals. A new local community initiative, DEF CON Group Bahrain, was also launched to unite experts, students, and enthusiasts focused on defensive cybersecurity practices and digital resilience. Building cyber leadership More than 10,000 participants from 50 countries are expected to attend, alongside 100 international speakers and experts. The programme includes pavilions, technical workshops, cyber competitions, and a global tech exhibition. H.E. Shaikh Salman praised the ongoing collaboration with Faalyat, which continues to bring world-class stakeholder engagement and experiential design to the region's most prominent cyber event. NCSC announces third edition of Arab International Cybersecurity Conference and Exhibition (AICS 2025)
On Tuesday morning, a press conference was held to announce the launch of the third edition of the Arab International Cybersecurity Conference and Exhibition (AICS 2025), under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Prime Minister. Gulf Air Orders 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners With Options For Six Additional Aircraft
Boeing and Gulf Air have announced an agreement for the purchase of 12 787 Dreamliner jets with options for six more as the Bahrain-based airline seeks to develop its international network further. The order will bring the carrier's firm order book to 14 of the widebody jets and will support 30,000 jobs across the United States once finalised. Bahrain Minister of Finance and National Economy Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick joined Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope and Gulf Air Group Chairman Khalid Taqi to witness the signing. The flag carrier of Bahrain will grow its all-787 widebody fleet, adding up to 18 787 Dreamliners to its widebody fleet. 'This agreement marks a transformative step in Gulf Air's strategic growth journey as we expand our global footprint and modernize our fleet with one of the industry's most advanced and efficient aircraft,' Khalid Taqi, chairman of Gulf Air Group said in a statement. 'The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has proven to be an exceptional aircraft for our long-haul operations, and this new order reflects our confidence in its performance, passenger appeal and contribution to our sustainability goals. We are proud to deepen our partnership with Boeing and reaffirm our commitment to positioning Bahrain as a key global aviation hub,' he added. The 787 Dreamliner serves as the backbone of Gulf Air's long-haul operations, connecting over 50 destinations. With 10 787 airplanes in service, the airline is positioned to grow its network, serving new and existing markets across Asia, Europe and the United States. The 787 Dreamliner family has transformed global air travel by opening over 425 new nonstop routes and carrying more than 1 billion passengers worldwide since its commercial introduction in 2011. As Gulf Air's flagship airplane, the 787 features the largest windows of any widebody jet, air that is less dry and pressurised at a lower cabin altitude for comfort, and technology that senses and counters turbulence for a smoother ride. From its first DC-3 in 1961, Gulf Air has taken delivery of 37 Boeing airplanes, including the 787 jets currently in its fleet. Boeing is a leading global aerospace company and top U.S. exporter. The company develops, manufactures and services commercial airplanes, defence products and space systems for customers in more than 150 countries.
