
Abu Dhabi Sports Council picks 10 awards at SPIA
ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) has claimed a remarkable ten awards at the Middle East Sports Industry Awards (SPIA), held at Space 42 Arena in Al Raha Beach, Abu Dhabi. The honours included five gold, three silver, and two bronze awards, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's regional and global leadership in sports development and international event hosting.Among the top recognitions was the gold award for Strategic Leadership in Middle East Sport, presented to Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of ADSC, in appreciation of his exceptional role in advancing the sports ecosystem.Another highlight was the gold award for Major Sports Event of the Year, which went to the 2024 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, part of the DP World Tour Championship Finals, held at Yas Links last November.In the field of youth development, the ADSC got a gold for the Youth Sports Programme of the Year for Active Hub, an initiative that promotes youth engagement and wellness through sport while another gold came for Best Corporate Wellness Through Sport for organising the Abu Dhabi Government Games, which emphasised health and wellbeing at the workplace. The fifth and final gold belonged for the Mass Participation Event, awarded to the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, with more than 33,000 participants alone running across the length and breadth of the city on a December morning.

His Excellency highlighted the summit's role as a critical connection for global thought and action in infrastructure, stating that infrastructure is not merely a backdrop but the backbone that carries a city's values, identity, and readiness for the a panel discussion titled, Urban Excellence: Lessons from the World's Most Innovative Cities, Daniel Liu, Executive Director at MORROW Intelligence; Emre Arolat, Founding Partner and Principal at Emre Arolat Architecture; Asma Aljassmi, Executive Director of Projects Control and Operations at Aldar Projects; and Greg Bargull, Executive Director of Development at Modon, explored how leading cities are redefining urban living through inclusive growth, sustainability, and cultural identity. Daniel Liu stressed the importance of people-focused frameworks to measure infrastructure impact. Emre Arolat highlighted the role of design in reflecting local identity and shaping daily life. Asma Aljassmi emphasised how strong public-private partnerships are enabling liveable, thriving communities. Greg Bargull noted that embedding infrastructure in human-centric models is essential for long-term urban success.A session titled, Beyond Steel and Concrete: Connecting to Nature in Urban Development, featured Paul O'Brien, Chief Development Officer at Modon. He said: "We are looking at how existing infrastructure, like helipads and parking lots, can be leveraged for multi-modal transport, making the most of every space." Dr Talib Alhinai from Archer Aviation presented a future for urban air mobility, explaining: "Archer's mission is to replace 60 to 90-minute car drives with 10 to 20-minute electric air taxi flights, widening access to efficient urban mobility." The panel further discussed the critical role of robust frameworks and collaboration in realising these advanced urban a panel titled, Themed Luxury Development: Deeper Brand Immersion, Michael Belton, Chief Executive Officer, MERED; Kristina Zanic, CEO and Founder, Kristina Zanic Consultants; David Harman, Chief Development Officer, Modon Real Estate; Mulham G. Kristina Zanic said: "Luxury is now defined in different ways, bringing in well-being elements like water and air purification, and designing units to connect with the outside." David Harman said: "Luxury continues to evolve... it's now more focused towards feelings, sense of security, and the introduction of well-being, connecting real estate with nature." Mulham G. Tunisia's trade deficit widened by 24% in the first half of 2025, reaching $3.4 billion, official data showed on Friday, underscoring persistent economic pressures on the North African country. The state Institute of Statistics said that the increase was driven by a rise in imports which reached $14.36 billion, particularly of energy that rose by 13%, while exports remained stagnant. Department of Energy launches summer awareness campaign to promote electricity and gas safety
11 July 2025 14:07 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has launched an awareness campaign under the theme Your Safety is Our Priority, as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting public safety and the safe, responsible consumption of campaign targets various community groups, including individuals and companies, with the objective of raising awareness on the prevention of electricity and gas-related risks – particularly during the summer, when high temperatures lead to increased reliance on electrical Ahmed Alsayed Mohamed Sheebani, Executive Director of the Regulatory Affairs Petroleum Products Sector at the DoE, said: 'Safety in the use of energy sources is one of the fundamental pillars of our regulatory framework. Through this campaign, we aim to enhance community awareness of best practices, and encourage safer, more sustainable behavior in energy use, aligned with Abu Dhabi's vision to build an efficient and secure energy sector that serves both people and the environment. Collaboration between regulatory entities and the community is key to reducing gas-related incidents and ensuring everyone's safety.'Eng Abdul Rahman Al-Alawi, Health, Safety, and Environment Director at the DoE, said: "At the start of summer, the difficulties linked to energy usage grow, be it inside residences or within commercial and service facilities. Our part, at the Department of Energy, is to foster a safe and sustainable environment in the emirate through sustained outreach and education. "The Your Safety is Our Priority campaign is a clear manifestation of our duty to enhance a culture of safety, and to affirm that the conscious and responsible utilisation of energy is a joint responsibility between regulatory authorities and society. 'Prevention is rooted in community awareness. Therefore, this campaign was conceived to connect with people through straightforward language and actionable content that aids in reducing accidents and encourages the sustainable consumption of energy."A key focus of the campaign is to provide essential information that helps Abu Dhabi residents safely manage electrical appliances and gas systems throughout the campaign will include the distribution of digital awareness materials via social media and websites, as well as the organisation of workshops and visits in collaboration with partners from both the public and private sectors. This approach is designed to ensure that the campaign's messages reach the widest possible DoE has called on all residents and establishments in the emirate to actively engage with the campaign and take part in its events. The DoE reiterated that safety is a collective responsibility, beginning at home and extending to every workplace. It also highlighted the importance of following campaign updates and daily tips shared on DoE's official social media channels and website.
