SAR shuttlers Tang and Tse bow out of Japan Open

Hong Kong, China, shuttlers Jordan Tang and Tse Ying-suet saw their run at the Japan Open in Tokyo come to an end on Friday, after the pair were defeated by their fifth-seeded opponents from Thailand in three games.
The SAR duo drew first blood after a tightly-contested opening game against Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, which they won 22-20.
But the tables quickly turned when the Thais bounced back to claim game two 21-14, setting up a decisive third game.
After jumping to an early lead, the SAR duo ran out of gas with the score level at 12, going on to concede seven points in a row before losing 14-21.
Tang and Tse were vying for their second title of the year, having clinched gold at the Asia Championships in Ningbo in April.
The pair booked their spot in the quarters with a dominant straight games win over Indonesia's Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja on Thursday.

One fan, surnamed Zhu, told RTHK he made the journey all the way from Zhejiang province to witness his long-time favourite club Liverpool take to the pitch. "I would say it was really good, it was a really fun trip," he said. "I think it' really good to be here in Hong Kong. Although I've been to Hong Kong three or four times, it's still really fun to be here and meet people from different cultural backgrounds. I think it's really good," he added. "Most importantly, I'm here to support Liverpool. I think it's a really good opportunity for fans like us in East Asia because football is a sport that is rooted in Europe -- so it's a good opportunity for [fans here in] East Asia." Zhu also shared his thoughts on the Kai Tak Stadium, which he was was visiting for the first time. "I think the stadium is really amazing, the atmosphere is really amazing. You can see the players really clearly, and you can make very direct interactions with them [the players] and other fans and supporters as well." A fan from Hong Kong, named Zico, said he was looking forward to witnessing Liverpool's new off-season signings in action against AC Milan. He said he managed to catch the English side on their previous visit to the SAR eight years ago at Hong Kong Stadium, but was excited to mark his first visit to the Kai Tak Stadium by having the chance to see them once again. "Eight years ago, they came here and I was also there [at the Hong Kong Stadium]," he said. "I want to see the new [Liverpool] players, like [Florian] Witz and [Milos] Kerkez."

Photo: RTHK Hong Kong, China's table tennis team received a warm welcome at the airport after returning from the World University Games in Germany on Saturday, having won one gold and three bronze medals. The historic gold medal was won by the men's doubles pair of Baldwin Chan and Yiu Kwan-to, marking Hong Kong's first-ever gold in table tennis at the World University Games. Chan described the victory as a thrilling surprise. 'We feel very happy because this is our first World University Games. Our original aim was to fight for a medal. We never imagined winning gold. Being able to win makes us feel very surprised,' he said. Yiu expressed special gratitude to head coach Chan Kong-wah, who came out of retirement to lead the SAR team. He said the coach's encouragement was crucial, especially after a difficult quarter-final men's team match, where Yiu lost both games he played. 'When I almost broke down after the team event loss, he never gave up on me and kept encouraging me to fight and forget the games. He lent me a hand to pull me up when I was at my lowest. I really want to thank him for this gold,' he said. Hong Kong, China has so far won seven medals at this year's World University Games, including two golds, one silver, and four bronzes.
