Tot dies after pastor dad forgot to drop her off and left her in hot car

Rones Mota, who works as an evangelical pastor, has been arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter after leaving his three-year-old daughter Ana Liz in a hot car where temperatures soared to 50C
A three-year-old girl suffered fatal heatstroke when her pastor dad forgot to drop her off at nursery and left her in a hot car eight hours.
Evangelical pastor Rones Mota had forgotten to drop off his daughter Ana Liz at nursery school and left her locked in the car in Arraial, in the state of Piaui, in north-eastern Brazil, on Monday, 23rd June.

Although the external temperature was a survivable 24 degrees Celsius, inside the car it had soared to a deadly nearly 50 degrees, experts estimate.

Horrified Mota found Ana Liz dead in the car at 2:40 pm that day when he returned to the car to go and collect her and his eight-year-old son from school.
Local media reports say Mota was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter before being released on bail. Mota blamed her death on a mix-up over the school run.
He told police he normally dropped off Ana Liz at nursery first and then drove his son to school.
His lawyer, Dr Airiston Leite Ayres, said that this time his son needed to be at school early and then he forgot that Ana Liz was still in the car.
Floriano Police Chief Amanda Estevam told local media: "Witnesses report that the father entered the church, with his daughter in his arms, in a state of despair over what had happened."

She added: "Although it is clear that he had no intention of causing any harm to his daughter, what happened constitutes a breach of duty of care, and is being investigated as negligent homicide."
She also said that the pastor should not be held in preventive detention, since the crime was negligent and he did not avoid being held accountable. If he is convicted, he could face a sentence of one to three years in prison.

The judge may also decide not to apply the sentence if he considers that the father has already been sufficiently punished for the impact of the tragedy on his own life, according to local media.
It comes after an 18-month-old baby boy died in the same circumstances in the US while his dad allegedly spent time getting a haircut and grabbing a pint.
Scott Gardner was arrested on June 19 and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect causing great bodily harm, over the heartbreaking incident which took place on June 6.
According to a joint probe by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the Ormond Beach Police Department, Gardner, 33, left his toddler son, Sebastian Gardner, alone in the backseat of a pickup truck around 11:30 a.m.

He is then seen getting out of his vehicle and pouring what looks like water into potted flowers. He then proceeds to the pump and fills the five-litre cans with gasoline before leaving the station. Bursa Provincial Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch later identified the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of starting a wildfire in the country that has been burning for days. He is now being investigated as it is alleged he sparked a fire in the village of Kışmanlar. The suspect appeared to have burns on his arms and legs, and his phone was reportedly found burned in the woods by police. Aytekin, who has a history of numerous crimes and said he was kicked out of his home by his family, confessed to starting the fire in his initial statement, CNN Turkey reports. It comes as raging wildfires continue to rip through the country. Firefighters battled blazes across Turkey on Monday as the country sweltered in a summer heatwave, with wildfires leading to at least 14 deaths in the country in the past week. Around 20 villages have been evacuated, officials said. More than 3,500 people were forced to leave their homes. Shock moment beachgoers surrounded by smoke as raging wildfires in Italian hols hotspot Temperatures had already soared to a record high of 50.5 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country. The heatwave has fueled the forest fires on the dry ground that have spread rapidly in windy conditions. Authorities warned that a "risky week" lies ahead as temperatures continue to soar beyond record levels. Firefighters tackled blazes around Bursa in the northwest on Monday, the country's fourth-largest city and a major industrial centre, for the third consecutive day. Their efforts were hampered by strong winds fanning the flames, according to Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli. The flames have scorched 7,413 acres around the city so far, according to Bozbey. At least 84 fires have been recorded nationwide over the past 24 hours, with major blazes still active in Bursa, Karabuk, Usak and Kahramanmaras. In Karabuk, wildfires raging since Tuesday have forced the evacuation of 1,839 people from 19 villages. New wildfires broke out on Turkey's Mediterranean coast on Friday, as the government declared two western provinces in the country to be "disaster zones". Homes were evacuated in the city centre and the outlying district of Aksu as the fire advanced, news agency DHA reported. Firefighters struggled to extinguish the blazes before strong winds could spread the fire, which closed a major coastal road. Further along the coast, homes in the city of Manavgat were also threatened. Local residents with hoses and buckets rushed to assist firefighters as water-dropping helicopters and planes also battled the flames. Police water cannons and municipal water trucks were also enlisted in the firefighting efforts. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that the country faced "a truly great disaster" after 25,000 people got involved in the emergency effort. In a televised speech after a weekly cabinet meeting, he said 96 per cent of the fires were caused by human activity such as cigarette butts and picnic fires. There were also a few cases of sabotage, he said. 8 Flames rise from a forested area in the Gursu district Credit: GEtty

Former South Korean president jailed again in probe of attempt to impose martial law

SEOUL, July 10 - Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol returned to jail on Thursday after a court approved a warrant sought by prosecutors investigating his attempt to impose martial law last year. The Seoul Central District Court's decision bolstered the special counsel investigation into allegations that Yoon's move in December represented obstruction of justice and abuse of power. The court said in a statement it granted the request because of concerns Yoon could seek to destroy evidence. The conservative politician already faces criminal charges of insurrection over his martial law decree, and that could carry a sentence of life in prison or death. The former president returned to confinement in the Seoul Detention Center about 20 km (12 miles) south of the capital after the decision. He spent 52 days in jail earlier in the year but was released four months ago on technical grounds. The Constitutional Court ousted him as president in April, upholding parliament's impeachment for the martial law bid, which shocked South Koreans and triggered months of political turmoil. The special prosecution team launched its investigation after new leader Lee Jae Myung was elected in June, and it has been looking into additional charges against Yoon. The special counsel team is now expected to speed up its probe into allegations, including whether Yoon hurt South Korea's interests by intentionally inflaming tensions with North Korea. Yoon attended the court hearing on Wednesday on the detention warrant, wearing a dark navy suit and a red tie, but did not answer questions from reporters. His lawyers have denied the allegations against him and called the detention request an unreasonable move in a hasty investigation. More than 1,000 supporters rallied near the court on Wednesday, local media reported, waving flags and signs and chanting Yoon's name in heat of 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit). In their warrant request, prosecutors said Yoon poses a flight risk, local media reported.
