Coalition govt achieved more in one year than YSRCP did in five: Minister
The Minister made these remarks while participating in the 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' programme at Marlapadu in Tanguturu Mandal. During the event, he distributed pamphlets door-to-door, detailing the various development and welfare measures implemented by the coalition government over the past year. Speaking to the public, Minister Swamy highlighted that the government is diligently implementing all the 'Super Six' guarantees promised during the elections. He contrasted the speed of the current administration with the previous one, noting, 'While it took Jagan Mohan Reddy five years to increase pensions by Rs 1,000, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu increased pensions to Rs 4,000 with a single signature immediately after coming to power.'
The Minister also criticised the previous government for canceling Anna Canteens, which he said 'struck at the stomachs of the poor.' In contrast, he stated that these canteens were immediately restarted by the Chandrababu Naidu administration to alleviate hunger among the impoverished.
Dr Swamy outlined several major welfare schemes launched by the coalition government, including Thalliki Vandanam and free gas cylinders. He further announced that free bus transportation for women is set to commence on August 15, while the Annadatha Sukheebhava scheme will be launched within the current month.
Emphasising the government's commitment to employment generation, he cited the ongoing recruitment process for 13,000 teachers through the Mega DSC.
He said that the previous Jagan government failed to fill even a single teacher post in the last five years. Dr Swamy concluded by stating that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is working tirelessly with the ambitious goal of eliminating poverty from the state through the P4 initiative.

145 % rise in taxpayers since GST rollout in Gujarat; number of taxpayers crosses 12.66 lakh in 8 years
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], July 8 (ANI): Since the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2017, Gujarat has witnessed a steady annual increase in the number of new taxpayers. Eight years ago, when GST was introduced, the state had over 5.15 lakh registered taxpayers. As of FY 2024-25, this number has surged by 145 per cent, surpassing 12.46 lakh, more than double the original count. According to an official release, in terms of registered taxpayers, Gujarat now ranks third in the country, reflecting its growing economic activity and exemplary tax compliance. In FY 2024-25, Gujarat recorded a taxpayer growth rate of 6.38 per cent, significantly higher than the national average of 3.86 per cent and ahead of many other states. There was a time when Gujarat, like the rest of India, operated under a complex tax structure comprising VAT, CST, Octroi, Entry Tax, Service Tax, and Central Excise Duty. This fragmented system posed significant challenges for traders, making tax compliance cumbersome and time-consuming. The lack of uniformity in tax rates and regulations across states, coupled with the cascading effect of 'tax on tax', led to inflated costs of goods and created barriers to seamless trade. For a business-driven and export-oriented state like Gujarat, these complications were particularly burdensome. To address these challenges and provide a new direction for the country's economy, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented in India on July 1, 2017, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With this reform, the country adopted a single tax--GST--for the supply of goods and services, while doing away with multiple other taxes. Guided by the principle of 'One Nation, One Tax,' GST has simplified the tax system, reduced tax evasion, and paved the way for ease of doing business. With the implementation of GST, the process of tax calculation and payment has become significantly simpler for both traders and consumers. Alongside the steady rise in the number of taxpayers, Gujarat has witnessed a substantial increase in its GST revenue. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, the state registered GST collections of Rs 1,36,748 crore in FY 2024-25, marking a year-on-year increase of Rs 11,579 crore. Gujarat now ranks third among Indian states in terms of GST revenue contribution, accounting for 8.2 per cent of the country's domestic GST collections. The release emphasised that Gujarat has not only consistently maintained a leading position in GST collections but has also registered a notable increase in revenue from SGST and IGST. In FY 2024-25, the state garnered Rs 73,200 crore through SGST and IGST, marking a rise of Rs 8,752 crore compared to the previous fiscal year. While the national average growth rate for SGST and IGST revenue stood at 10.31 per cent, Gujarat surpassed it with an impressive 13.6 per cent growth. The state also leads the country in the timely filing of GST returns. Gujarat achieved 88.9 per cent compliance in GSTR-3B filing and 85.5 per cent in GSTR-1 filing within the prescribed timelines, underscoring its disciplined and robust tax administration, the release stated. TDP leaders shielding suspects in cocaine case in Visakhapatnam, alleges YSRCP leader
Former Minister and YSRCP leader Gudivada Amarnath has alleged that several TDP leaders, including a Member of Parliament, influenced the release of suspects in a recent cocaine case in Visakhapatnam. Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, Mr. Amarnath said a South African national, Thomas, was caught with 25 grams of cocaine worth ₹15 lakh, along with an accomplice named Akshay. Based on their call records, three more individuals were picked up for questioning, but two were allegedly released within 24 hours under political pressure. He accused TDP East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna, Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat, MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, and his son of intervening in the investigation. He also alleged the involvement of IT Minister Nara Lokesh and even the Chief Minister's Office. Mr. Amarnath demanded that the police release CCTV footage and call data records to expose political interference. He contrasted the YSRCP's anti-drug efforts, including the formation of the Special Enforcement Bureau, with what he called the NDA government's failure, claiming Visakhapatnam had now become a drug hub.

"Something which Rahul Gandhi had cautioned": Congress targets Centre over Jane Street's alleged market manipulation, demands accountability
New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Modi government, alleging gross regulatory failure in the wake of accusations against American algo-trading giant Jane Street Group. Speaking to ANI, Shrinate claimed that the firm manipulated Indian stock and derivatives markets between January 2023 and March 2025, earning illegal profits of over Rs 44,000 crore, most of which was allegedly siphoned off to the United States. 'An American algo-trading company, Jane Street, started operations in Indian in 2020. It dealt in both the share market and the derivative market. It was dealing in such a large volume that it was manipulating stock price in share market and was earning illegal profits in F&O market. Between January 2023 and March 2025, it earned a profit of around Rs 44,000 sent this profit to America. SEBI has now issued an order that they are seizing Rs 4400 is suffering due to this? Small investors of this country - something which Rahul Gandhi had cautioned about again and question is that when Jane Street tells US Court that they earned 2.3 billion dollars due to inefficiencies in India, when market investors are writing to you, why did you stay silent? Why did you not do anything?' Shrinate said. The Congress leader further questioned the government's silence, calling for answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and demanding that steps be taken to recover the remaining funds from abroad. 'The Government will be questioned now because Narendra Modi and Amit Shah pose as market experts and offer suggestions on the stock market, now when people are losing their money and company is earning profits illegally and sending to the US, what would you do now? You can't be silent. Would you be able to speak with Donald Trump and retrieve the money?' Supriya Shrinate said. On July 3, SEBI in its order noted that the US-based firm used a profit-maximising scheme to manipulate the market and booked substantial profits in index options, while incurring smaller losses in the cash and futures segments. SEBI further stated that Jane Street Group entities, despite caution letters from NSE in February 2025 and their own commitments to refrain from certain trading behaviours, continued to deploy the same high-risk and market-distorting strategies. SEBI sources later said that the interim order against the index manipulation matter concerning Jane Street should not be considered a show-cause notice. The investigations into the US-based investment firm will continue, the sources had added. 'It is difficult to estimate how long all this (probe) could take - the scope is quite large,' the sources had asserted. (ANI)
