Khairy excited to play alongside Man Utd legend
The tournament will feature four teams: Team Wizards, Team Bangsa Bola, Team Harimau and Team Zurich.
Former sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also the manager of Team Wizards, relishes the opportunity to play alongside Giggs, the captain of their side.
"My team is well balanced. We've got Kogileswaran Raj, Indra Putra Mahayuddin, Tengku Fahad Mua'adzam Shah, Hairul Azreen, and of course, me," said Khairy, who is a Man Utd fan.
"But the X-factor in our team is Giggs. I mean, Terry has never been the same ever since he slipped during the penalty kick (in 2008 Champions League final against Man Utd), so he's going to slip all over again."
Khairy quipped Giggs had personally requested to join his team after the latter's recent trip to Malaysia to promote the Man Utd vs Asean All-Stars match last month.
"When Giggs was here recently, he asked me if he could be part of my team. I said okay, no problem. We were supposed to have Paul Scholes, but he couldn't come, so we managed to get Giggs instead," he said.
Khairy couldn't resist taking a jibe at Team Bangsa Bola who are captained by Terry and managed by banker Tan Sri Nazir Razak. "Well, it's Terry and then, you know, it's Nazir. I mean, a banker doesn't know much about football, right?" he said.
"Tan Sri Tony Fernandes' team (Harimau) will be competitive because he's a competitive person, having Safee Sali as the captain.
"There's also Team Zurich led by Junior Cho, featuring Berbatov."
Meanwhile Safee, whose Team Harimau feature Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Khyril Muhymeen, K. Gurusamy, and Adam Sinclair, said playing with legends like Terry and Giggs is a proud moment for local football.
"To be part of something alongside Terry and Giggs is not ordinary, it's a benchmark for the next generation," he said.

"I see the Club World Cup as a top competition and we are very happy to be here, we want to win it, but at the same time that are several things I think could be improved probably due to the fact that it is the first time they are organising it," he said. Maresca also said that "many other things have been done well" but did not specify what those positive things were. The manager praised Brazilian football quality ahead of facing his third Brazilian opponents, after Chelsea lost 3-1 to Flamengo in the group stage and beat Palmeiras 2-1 in the quarter-finals. "The quality from Brazilian players is probably the top, is the best quality," he said, while again highlighting the conditioning gap between fresh South American sides and exhausted Europeans. "There are two things that for me are very clear in the two games that we face (against) Brazilian teams. One is the quality but at the same time it is very clear the energy that they have, for different reasons, and we don't. Top quality and also defensively, they were very good. So it will be a tough game." BERLIN: Brazilian team Fluminense, which six months ago was fighting to avoid relegation to the second division and is now a surprise Club World Cup semifinalist, will face Chelsea as they aim to write a fairytale in the United States (US), reported German Press Agency (dpa). The club from Rio de Janeiro is the only non-European club to reach this stage of the revamped tournament. "God has blessed us and made it possible for us to overcome that moment," veteran captain Thiago Silva said ahead of the clash against Chelsea on Tuesday. The 40-year-old defender was a key player in helping Fluminense avoid relegation and now reaching the Club World Cup semifinals. A win against Chelsea would see them face either Real Madrid or Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. Fluminense are something of an "ugly duckling" in this elite circle, coach Renato Portaluppi joked. But in sporting terms, the underdog team earned this prestigious game on the big football stage.
