Paramount Sets Original, Untitled K-Pop Movie for February 2027 Release
The film will star Ji-young Yoo, who most recently starred in the breakout Netflix/Sony Animation hit 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' as well as Eric Nam, who will star in the upcoming 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' feature film 'The Legend of Aang.' Yoo will play a young Korean-American woman who defies her family's wishes to compete in a televised competition to find the next K-pop girl group.

Benson Lee, director of the 2015 Sundance teen comedy 'Seoul Searching,' is attached to the film, which is set to be the first American production shot entirely in South Korea.

Paramount's film division president, Michael Ireland, originally oversaw the project during its development at 20th Century Fox before acquiring it in turnaround from Disney and bringing it to Paramount under current studio head Brian Robbins.
The film is produced by James Shin of Hybe America, Arthur Spector and Joshua Davis of Epic Magazine and Scooter Braun. Executive producers include Joshuah Bearman of Epic Magazine, John Zaozirny and Scott Manson. Bryan Oh, Paramount's SVP of production, is overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
Yoo is repped by Entertainment 360, Gersh, Viewpoint and Del Shaw Moonves. Nam is repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and The Lede Company.

Nick Offerman says he's 'not going to pick an argument' with Trump-supporter co-star Dennis Quaid
Actor Nick Offerman said last week he wasn't looking to have a political squabble with his "Sovereign" co-star Dennis Quaid over President Donald Trump. "Dennis Quaid is a fantastic actor whom I've looked up to my whole life, and he [is] better in this film than almost anything I've seen him in," Offerman said in a response on Reddit to a commenter asking about how he deals with Trump supporters like Quaid. Offerman had made an "ask me anything" post on the site inviting users to inquire about "Sovereign," his new film with Quaid about an anti-government extremist and his son, and an eventual police standoff. "We didn't have a lot of time together on set, so the context wasn't really conducive to digging into settling the world's problems, or even just those of America. 'Good morning, Dennis. How about those Epstein files? Anyway, want to run our lines,'" Offerman added. The actor, famous for his role as Ron Swanson on "Parks & Recreation," said he believes those who voted for the 47th president are good people, even though he disagrees with them. "Dealing with Trump supporters in the world is something I try to handle with nuance, because I know many others around the states who are very good people and citizens and would give you the shirt of their back," Offerman said. "They are on the receiving end of an absolute firehose of misinformation, so it's really cognitively dissonant (impossible) to engage in rational discourse." He has said that his libertarian "Parks and Recreation" character would have "despised Trump," and he thinks Republicans trend toward fascism. "I think we're all wrong about a lot of things, but the reason I lean left is because at the end of the Republican plan is austerity and literal fascism, sad military muscle parades and mounted troops in the LA, the coolest city in the world, and all the rest of the current bed-s---tings, and at the end of the Democrat plan is health care and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for everybody," he said. Offerman added that he wanted to work with Quaid and leave politics out. "No matter who we voted for, it requires all of us (including an overwhelming number of immigrants) to make the great bounty this country produces, and is then so disproportionately pocketed by the ultra-wealthy, so I am not going to pick an argument with Dennis Quaid over our political leanings because I'm going to shake his hand and try to make a great film," Offerman said.

Netflix's Best New Kids Show Has High Audience Scores, Is Adorable
My Melody and Kuromi Well, now that my kids are getting older, I am attempting to find them the occasional show to watch with our limited screen time rules that is not Paw Patrol. Sorry pups, I love you but…I've had enough. One new offering on Netflix is the best new kids show that the streamer has offered in a while, and you may want to check it out. It's the adorable My Melody and Kuromi, a Japanese stop-motion series. The movie is based on Sanrio characters, the company creating hundreds of 'kawaii' characters over the years including the global icon, Hello Kitty. Here, My Melody is a rabbit that was originally created in 1975 and has returned for this brand new series literally 50 years later. Man, 1975 does not feel like 50 years ago, does it? I'm getting old. Kuromi, the other rabbit, was originally conceived in 2005. Here's the synopsis of the series: 'My Melody opens a cake shop in Mariland. After encountering a magical heart in the forest, strange things start happening around her. Meanwhile, Kuromi's Japanese sweets shop across the street is always empty. Kuromi searches for the secret to My Melody's cakes. My Melody and Kuromi work hard to prepare for a sweets-making contest judged by the world-famous pastry chef Pistachio. However, no one knows that this will lead to an incident that threatens the fate of Mariland.' My Melody and Kuromi The show has debuted at #4 on Netflix's top 10 list in the US, which has been watching more and more Asian programming, usually Japanese and Korean, in recent years. While the show does not yet have any critic or audience scores in on Rotten Tomatoes, if you head over to IMDB, the show is currently clocking in at an 8.3/10, extremely high in the context of that site. For instance, my son's beloved Paw Patrol is a 6.1/10. Spidey and His Amazing Friends a 5.8/10. Peppa Pig a 6.3/10. A show that bests it? That would be the legendary Bluey, with a 9.3/10. But I mean, you're just not going to beat Bluey. My Melody and Kuromi is an easy watch, with season 1 being 12 episodes that are 11-15 minutes each for breezy viewing and holding attention spans. This is a TV-PG series, not TV-G, though I'm genuinely not sure why. The first episode has Kuromi stealing ingredients from a rival so I mean, crime? I don't know.
