Yahoo17-04-2025
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – The month of April is National Welding Month, and here in Bay County, one local college is highlighting its program and the benefits of working in the trade.
At Haney Technical College in Panama City, you can begin your journey by enrolling in their welding technology program.
The program totals 1050 hours, which is the equivalent of one full academic year.
You don't need any prior experience, and spend the majority of the class getting hands-on experience in the lab.
Lookout Lounge's Pompano Classic honors local fishing legend
After completing the course, you then have the chance to be selected for the advanced program, which takes just under one academic year to complete.
By completing any of the welding programs at Haney, you unlock the opportunity to get a job locally or almost anywhere in the country.
'Our advanced program has always maintained a 100% placement rate,' said Haney Technical College Welding Department Head Paul Richardson. 'Everyone who completes our advanced program leaves with a very well-paying job. Our regular welding technology program, we have a 93% placement rate for completers. A lot of people will do that and then learn on the job the rest of the skills in the trade.'
Spaces for the Haney Technical College welding program are limited, so you are encouraged to enroll sooner rather than later.

KC business owner stops illegal tow linked to company facing $7.1 million judgement

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A new video obtained by FOX4 shows a quick-thinking Kansas City business owner stepping in to stop what he says was an illegal tow in progress. He potentially saved a customer from becoming the latest victim of predatory towing. Kansas City firefighter dies after serving more than 30 years FOX4 has spent months investigating this growing issue and has uncovered how questionable towing practices have cost metro drivers thousands of dollars. This latest incident involves a company FOX4 first reported on earlier this year: Haney's Trucking and Tow, the same company now facing a $7.1 million judgment tied to predatory towing. In the video recorded by the business owner and shared with FOX4, the tow truck driver can be heard acknowledging practices that appear to violate Missouri state law. 'To see people violating state law – the same law I was expected to follow,' the man who recorded the video said. Under Missouri law, a tow is illegal unless the property owner or a property manager—someone legally representing the property—is present on site. According to the video, the tow truck driver had no such representative with him. 'I know what they usually do is they already have signed forms,' the driver says in the video. The man who filmed the incident asked to remain anonymous, citing concerns about retaliation from the tow company. He told FOX4 he's long been aware of how predatory towing impacts the community, and says this video is 'Exhibit A.' He runs a business restoring and servicing classic cars. It was during a typical workday that Haney's Tow arrived and attempted to remove one of his customer's vehicles until he intervened. 'To see another company with such blatant disregard for the law was just disrespectful,' he added. Construction on Kansas City Buc-ee's delayed When asked on-site why the tow was being carried out without the legally required property representative present, the driver responded: 'I just follow what my bosses say.' FOX4 reached out to Haney's for comment on this incident, but has not received a response as of the time this article was published. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. UK's Fairstone adds 100th firm under DBO Programme

UK-based wealth manager Fairstone has added Richardson Premier Wealth, marking the 100th partnership under its Downstream Buy Out (DBO) programme. Richardson Premier Wealth is a family-owned business headquartered in Halifax, West Yorkshire, with additional footprint in Glasgow. The firm advises more than 200 clients and manages just over £50m in assets. Richardson Premier Wealth principal Paul Richardson said: 'We're thrilled to be joining Fairstone. From the first conversation we had with their team, it was clear that their focus on putting the client first and creating long-term, sustainable growth was a perfect fit for us.' The DBO model provides partner firms with capital investment, operational resources, and regulatory support, enabling them to focus on performance without the burden of back-office or compliance tasks. The programme has contributed to Fairstone's growth, with the firm now managing $20bn in assets for over 60,000 wealth clients. The consolidator has set a target to double this to £40bn ($54.8bn) by the end of 2030. To support its growth ambitions, Fairstone is refining its DBO model to focus on higher valuations for wealth advisory firms. Upgrades include a 'dynamic' valuation framework linked to business performance and client outcomes. Fairstone CEO Lee Hartley said: 'We are absolutely delighted to welcome Richardson Premier Wealth Ltd as the 100th DBO firm to join Fairstone. 'It is a high quality, trusted independent financial adviser which really looks after its clients and is firmly focused on sustainable growth, making it a perfect partner for us. Exclusive: Outdoor Voices founder Ty Haney raises $11 million for her second startup

– Loyalty program. Outdoor Voices founder Ty Haney launched her second startup, Try Your Best (or TYB), more than three years ago. It was peak Web3, a space that Haney became highly interested in after she left the athletic apparel retailer that, in some ways, defined 2010s startups. Today, Haney is still building TYB, with 38 employees—and it's outlasted the rise and fall of blockchain/crypto/NFT-mania. The platform is intended to be a layer of loyalty infrastructure for consumer brands, what Haney calls 'community commerce.' Two hundred brands use the platform, as do 2 million users—mostly Gen Z women. Haney just raised an $11 million Series A for TYB, Fortune is the first to report. The round was co-led by Offline Ventures and Strobe Ventures, with participation from Coinbase Ventures, Castle Island Ventures, and Unusual Ventures. This brings its total capital to $23.5 million. Talking to Haney about TYB, you can feel her excitement. Years after the drama that engulfed Outdoor Voices, which included board battles and Haney's exit and return, she's thrilled to be at step one again. 'I love this stage. I love building something from zero,' she says. The brands that use TYB include several of the buzziest brands from the beauty industry—like Glossier, Rare Beauty, and Saie. 'Beauty as a category has popped off significantly for us,' Haney says. '[Beauty] consumers are already creating so much content and participating in rituals around the brands.' There's also Poppi, Urban Outfitters, Set Active. Coming soon to the platform are Crocs and Away. Consumers on TYB participate in gamified challenges, earn collectibles, and have blockchain-enabled loyalty profiles that can potentially follow them from brand to brand. A TYB-using customer has 40% higher frequency of purchase and a 28% higher lifetime value, Haney says. Monthly engagement rates for brands crack 40%. Haney tells brands that TYB can drive 5% to 10% of revenue—'in a more profitable fashion than putting all your dollars against Instagram or Facebook.' TYB is developing 'affinity webs' that can map a user's loyalty to one brand and apply it to another. 'Within the Glossier community where I'm level three—can that mean something to Nike?' Haney explains. She's brought some lessons with her from Outdoor Voices and the tens of millions it raised. 'I've become a lot more sophisticated, or precise, in terms of who I who I raise money from, how much money I raise, and ultimately considerate of ownership and as little dilution as possible,' she says.
