Hands-On: 4 Noteworthy Upgrades For The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Z Flip 7
Once again, this begs the question of whether you should make the switch to a foldable device, or upgrade from last year's model. We're here to help by listing out pretty much everything different or upgraded in this year's iteration of the Fold and Flip.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is at its slimmest form ever. When folded, it feels as slim as the S25 Ultra and when unfolded, it is as slim as the USB-C port itself. It is a mere 8.9 mm thick when folded, compared to 12.1 mm of the Z Fold 6, and it's at 4.2 mm thick when unfolded, compared to 5.6 mm of the Z Fold 6. As for its weight, it's just a mere 215 grams, compared to the Z Fold 6's 239 grams. It's even lighter than the S25 Ultra, which weighs 218 grams.
As for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it is at 13.7 mm thick when flipped, compared to 14.9 mm of the Z Flip 6, and it's at 6.5 mm when unflipped, compared to 6.9 mm of the Z Flip 6. As for the weight, though weighing one gram heavier at 188 grams, compared to 187 grams of the Z Flip 6, it actually makes up for it by carrying a larger battery, at 4,300 mAh, compared to 4,000 mAh of the Z Flip 6's.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold & and Z Flip 7 have larger main displays and cover displays. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 now has a 6.5-inch cover display (21:9 aspect ratio), compared the Z Fold 6's 6.3-inch cover display. The main display of the Z Fold 7 clocks in at an 8-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X with 120Hz refresh rate compared to the 7.6-inch of the Z Fold 6. Improvements made to Samsung's One UI 8 also enables users to utilise the unfolded screen of the Z Fold 7 to easily make side-by-side comparisons.
As for the Z Flip 7, the cover display has seen the biggest jump in size, as it now features a screen measuring in at 4.1 inches, compared to the minuscule 3.4-inch of the Z Flip 6. The main display of the Z Flip 7 is a 6.9-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X with 120Hz refresh rate compared to 6.7 inches on the Z Flip 6. Thanks to the new edge-to-edge cover display, users are able to utilise various third-party apps and Samsung's native widgets to a greater extent, and even have full access to Google's Gemini Live AT assistant without the need to flip open the phone.
This time, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, coupled with the Adreno 830 GPU. It delivers a performance boost of 41% in NPU, 38% in CPU, and 26% in GPU compared to the previous generation. The Galaxy Z Flip 7, however, opted for a 10-core Exynos 2500 processor and Xclipse 950 GPU. We ran both devices through our gaming gauntlet of Genshin Impact , Zenless Zone Zero , PUBG: Mobile and Wuthering Waves so check them out below.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 introduces the series' first 200MP wide-angle camera (the same main camera as the S25 Ultra), so it can capture four times more detail and produce images that are 44% brighter than its predecessor. We'll let the photos speak for themselves. Here are some photos captured on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 during our short stay in New York City over the past week.

Tencent Plays Coy About Copying Sony's Aloy
Tencent raised eyebrows late last year when it released the announcement trailer for Light of Motiram , an open-world survival game where humans use primitive technology to combat giant mechanical beasts. Sound familiar? Well, Sony certainly thought so, as the company is now suing the China-based studio over copyright and trademark infringement against its Horizon video game franchise. As reported by Variety, Sony Interactive Entertainment filed a lawsuit on 25 July in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that Light of Motiram is a 'slavish clone' of the Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West video games and requesting statutory damages of US$150,000 for each separate work in the Horizon franchise infringed. In addition, PlayStation is looking to prevent the game's release, stating that 'Tencent's copying of Horizon is so blatant that the public has described it as 'crazy,' 'insane,' and 'shameless.' Tencent also used its rip-off of the iconic Horizon main character, Aloy, as the centrepiece of its pre-release marketing and promotional strategy, deliberately causing numerous game lovers to confuse Light of Motiram as the next game in the Horizon series when encountering Tencent's promotional gameplay videos and social media accounts.' Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) According to further reports by The Wrap, Sony also stated that Tencent attempted to pitch its own version of Horizon in hopes of sealing a collaboration, and despite Sony rejecting the offer, Tencent moved forward with its plans anyway. Representatives for Tencent did not respond to either Variety or The Wrap's request for comments. From looking at the game's trailer alone, it's easy to see just how similar Light of Motiram is to Sony's popular adventure franchise, as apart from the obvious use of the same core man-versus-machine concepts, the upcoming game also features a post-apocalyptic setting, and a tribal protagonist that wields a bow alongside melee weapons to target specific parts of an enemies body, as well as the ability to ride mechanical horses, 'train' mechanical beasts, and use ariel gliders, making it seem far more than just mere inspiration. Light of Motiram To be fair, Tencent's title does feature unique mechanics that differentiate it from Sony's franchise, such as a focus on crafting structures like what appear to be energy pylons and turrets for base defence, hinting at a strong focus on base building and tower defence, alongside a bigger emphasis on multiplayer co-op gameplay. Still, the similarities between the two games are just too obvious for Sony to ignore, and only time will tell how the lawsuit plays out, and if there's trouble on Light of Motiram's horizon. 'Borderlands 4' Nets Nintendo Switch 2 Version A Month After Main Release
Gearbox Entertainment's upcoming looter-shooter sequel, Borderlands 4 , has now landed a Nintendo Switch 2 version, with the game headed to the hybrid console on 3 October 2025, just one month after its main release. Taking to X/Twitter, Gearbox head Randy Pitchford announced the game's Nintendo Switch 2 launch date in his signature casual style, reminiscent of his previous reveal of the title's early release. In the clip, he addressed fan concerns that the Switch 2 version would not arrive anytime soon due to the lack of pre-order announcements, and cheekily set up the notion that it would not release this year, only to drop the reveal of its October launch right at the end. The announcement of Borderlands 4's Switch 2 launch date within the year will certainly be great news for fans eager to take the mayhem with them on the go, especially considering Gearbox's previous statements that the version would arrive later than other platforms. This was in part due to the team's decision to make a dedicated Switch 2 version of the game over a simple port, with Pitchford explaining that the hybrid console was 'a joy to work with' and that it was 'pretty astonishing how perfect [the] platform is for Borderlands 4 .' With Borderlands 4's early launch date of 12 September 2025 on the PlayStation, Xbox and PC, things are already looking pretty promising for the upcoming shooter sequel, which looks set to ramp up the mayhem fans know and love, with Pitchford and Gearbox Global Creative Executive Officer Andrew Reiner explaining during a previous interview with Geek Culture how the team is bringing the series back to its roots while expanding on core concepts. Now, with an early-than-expected release date on the Nintendo Switch 2, the game will also attract a brand new legion of fans when Borderlands 4 drops on the hybrid console on 3 October 2025. Atari 2600+ Gets Pac-Man Themed Re-Release In Oct
Retro gamers are about to get a strikingly yellow blast from the past, as Atari and Bandai Namco have teamed up for the Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition, a special re-release of the 2023 classic console refresh that celebrates the 45th anniversary of the iconic yellow puck. Originally launched in 2023, the Atari 2600+ served as a modern-day recreation of the classic '70s gaming console, retaining its retro feel while incorporating current-generation technologies like HDMI and USB-C ports, alongside the ability to run both 2600 and 7800 cartridges. The new Pac-Man Edition offers the same experience, this time decked out in the character's signature yellow hue, which engulfs almost its entire chassis, even featuring an appearance by the friendly puck alongside the four ghosts. 'The Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition is more than just a console,' manufacturer Plaion wrote in the console's announcement, 'it's a tribute to the moment home gaming truly began. By reimagining the iconic hardware in Pac-Man's unmistakable style, we're celebrating the legacy of two cultural giants who helped define a generation of play.' The Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition will also come with a matching yellow CX-40 wireless joystick, although different colour variations will also be sold separately, each themed after the four ghosts, including Red (Blinky), Cyan (Inky), Orange (Clyde) and Pink (Pinky). The console will also come with a Pac-Man Double Feature cartridge, which comprises the very first home console release of the original 1980s game, Pac-Man 2600 , alongside a new arcade-style version of the classic Pac-Man 7800 . Pre-orders for the Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition will open on 23 July 2025, with the console releasing on 31 October 2025 priced at US$169.99. Individual wireless joysticks will cost US$39.99 each, alongside classic Bandai Namco games like Dig Dug 7800 or Galaga 7800 , each priced at US$34.99, with additional game and joystick console bundles also available.
