Abu Dhabi launches new affordable housing initiative to boost quality of life
Value Housing Programme will be rolled out in phases, with a focus on improving living standards for individuals and families.
Launched by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), the initiative also aims to strengthen social integration and foster community bonds, which are central to the Year of Community. By offering affordable, high-quality housing, the programme emphasises the commitment to building dynamic, inclusive communities.
As part of this initiative, DMT has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Sdeira Group (formerly KEZAD Communities) and Central Holding Group (CHG).
By leveraging their extensive global experience, the partnership between DMT and CHG aims to drive collaboration, share knowledge, and amplify the effectiveness and impact of affordable housing across Abu Dhabi.
Commenting on the initiative, Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of DMT, noted that the MoU agreements aim to create vibrant and thriving neighbourhoods that would set new benchmarks for quality and innovation.
'These partnerships underscore our dedication to delivering housing solutions that adhere to our principles of inclusivity and sustainability. They are a crucial step in addressing the growing demand for housing in the Emirate, while improving living standards and providing avenues for everyone to access housing that enhances their well-being,' Al Shorafa said.
DMT is also committed to working closely with investors, developers, and partners to drive the programme forward. Through strategic partnerships, the department aims to reshape the real estate sector and ensure the versatility of Abu Dhabi's housing market, offering diverse options for all segments of society.

Abu Dhabi – The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has inaugurated two new rest stops dedicated to delivery bike riders in Rabdan and Shakhbout City in Abu Dhabi. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an, the Government of Abu Dhabi's official channel to receive social contributions, is part of a joint effort to improve working conditions and enhance road safety for delivery riders. This initiative addresses the daily challenges faced by delivery riders. It is part of a comprehensive plan to improve the quality of services provided to them, ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment, especially during the hot summer months. It also aligns with the 'Summer Without Accidents' campaign and reflects both entities' commitment to supporting this vital workforce, which is considered a cornerstone of the logistics and delivery sector. The initiative also embodies the values of the 'Year of Community 2025' and underscores the importance of social cohesion and improving the quality of life for all segments of society. The rest stops are equipped with essential amenities to ensure rider comfort, including shaded and air-conditioned areas, comfortable seating, cold drinking water, and charging points for electronic devices. Safety and sustainability elements were also considered in the design, featuring amenities such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and dedicated parking areas equipped with tire air pumps. Additionally, both rest stops are environmentally friendly and powered by solar energy, in line with Abu Dhabi's sustainability principles. Abu Dhabi Department of Energy organizes awareness sessions for gas system safety
Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), in partnership with the Majalis Abu Dhabi at the Presidential Court, has organized a series of awareness briefings concerning safety procedures for gas systems inside buildings. These sessions took place during the first half of 2025 as part of the DoE's ongoing efforts to promote social awareness and consolidate public safety practices in the Emirate. This initiative is intended to spread best practices for the safe use of gas in both domestic and commercial environments, and to elevate the community's readiness for responding to emergencies. Such measures are instrumental in protecting lives and property and in raising safety levels throughout the different areas of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. There was broad community participation in the sessions, which took place in various community Majalis throughout Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra. Those present were provided with the opportunity to put forward their questions, provide their comments, and share their own experiences. A number of DoE officials and employees were in attendance, with the objective of developing initiatives that yield a sustainable socio-economic impact. The importance of direct outreach to residents and the use of community Majalis as essential platforms for enhancing constructive discussion and listening to the feedback and suggestions of society's members was affirmed by Eng. Al Dhaid Date Festival wraps up with record sales, visitor growth
Organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), this year's edition attracted over 30,000 visitors—a 25% increase from the previous edition—generated more than AED 2 million in sales, and awarded 110 participants across various date competitions, solidifying the festival's reputation as one of the leading agricultural and trade events in the region. Closing ceremony honours contributors and partners During the closing ceremony, His Excellency Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, presented awards to competition winners and acknowledged key partners for their contributions. Honourees included H.E. Rashid Khalifa Al Mahyan, Chairman of the Parents Council for Male and Female Students in the Central Region, and Dr. Rashid Al Mazrouei, a heritage studies expert. Strong industry and community participation This year's festival saw wide participation from major date producers, palm farmers across the UAE, and over 15 agricultural companies showcasing sustainable farming technologies. Expanded competitions reflect sector diversity This year featured new and expanded competitions for date varieties like Khneizi, Khalas, and Shishi, as well as elite categories for regional farmers. AI-driven judging enhances transparency The Organising Committee introduced AI technology into the judging of the flagship 'Mazaiena Al Rutab' (Dates Beauty) contest. The system uses advanced analysis of date quality, size, and appearance, ensuring fair and efficient evaluations. Workshops equip farmers with modern skills A series of expert-led workshops and seminars offered training in best practices and emerging technologies for palm care, reinforcing the festival's role in both heritage preservation and agricultural advancement. Youth engagement through innovation and leadership The festival hosted an interactive youth session by the Sharjah Youth Council (SYC) in collaboration with the UAE Youth Entrepreneurship Council. Themed 'At the Heart of Sharjah Central Region.. Our Youth: Leadership and Growth,' the event launched the 'Innovate with Dates' competition for 2026, encouraging youth to develop creative, commercially viable products from dates. New youth council to represent Central Region During the session, SYC announced the formation of the "Central Region Youth Council," set to launch on International Youth Day, August 12.
