Four in 10 Brits have never used their grill for fear of BBQ 'head chefs'
Summer is here and the sun's been shining, which means many Brits are firing up the BBQ.
But that doesn't mean we're cooking on them. That's because 40% have never even used their BBQ - mainly because someone else takes over, according to a new study. Sausages, burgers, kebabs, and corn on the cobs might be the order of the day, but many of us don't get a look in when it comes to the grill. A staggering 62% have someone that takes over when it comes to the BBQ, however one in three (32%) secretly want to take over the role of head chef.
While grilled food is a tasty addition to our summer menus, it's also a bone of contention in many households, with over a quarter (28%) admitting to arguing over who is the best BBQ chef in their house, according to the Ninja poll. But many people are intimidated by cooking on a BBQ, with more than a third (36%) of people wanting to BBQ more but lack the confidence.
Radio DJ and BBQ lover Chris Stark, loves to cook on the grill and has shared his top tips to smash it on the BBQ this year. 'If you know me, then you know I absolutely love a BBQ – and yes I have been guilty of taking over,' he says.
'If you're sick of being overshadowed by the BBQ connoisseur of your household, or you want the confidence to try al fresco cooking for yourself, then I've given some super simple tips and tricks on how anyone can become the BBQ connoisseur in no time, particularly if you have the help of easy to use equipment such as the Ninja Woodfire Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker.'
Fire up the grill and become an ultimate BBQ supremo with Chris' top tips
Use a food thermometer: A lot of people don't have one to hand when cooking outdoors but for me it's essential for BBQ cooking, even better if your BBQ has one that's built in.
Rest the meat! This is a step that people often overlook. Barbecued meat should rest for as long as it's cooked. Equally you should always bring any meat to room temperature before cooking.
Smokiness is the beauty of a BBQ. Depending on what BBQ you are using, wood chips or pellets are a must have addition for that gorgeous smokey flavour.
Sharpen your knives: Invest in good quality and make sure they're sharpened ahead of the day. No one wants to use a blunt knife!
Say cheese: I'm a big fan of cheese and over the years I've tried a variety of different ones on the BBQ. Don't be shy to get creative! Ditch the standard cheddar and try Raclette - a great option for cheeseburgers or even pizzas. The Ninja Artisan Electric Outdoor Pizza Oven & Air Fryer is an outdoor oven that is perfect for cooking pizzas within 3 minutes in the summer months.

One in four gig goers leave concert EARLY with Gen Zs most likely to make a swift exit, survey shows
A SURVEY has revealed the common habits of Brits when attending concerts. One in four gig goers miss the encore and leave early – with a third prioritising how they'll feel the next day. 2 A poll of 2,000 music fans found 26 per cent seemingly can't resist the thought of winding down post-gig rather than staying to hear the final song. And perhaps surprisingly, it's Gen Zs (39 per cent) who are most likely to make a swift exit. Tiredness is also factor, with 36 per cent of all adults admitting they worry in advance about how they'll feel the morning after. Further to this, 37 per cent practice self-care post-gig so they can wake-up feeling fresh the next day – and again Gen Zs do this more than any other generation (55 per cent). But it might not have the desired effect - 51 per cent of all adults typically emerge from their post-gig slumber feeling fried, tired, and worn out. The research was commissioned by Holiday Inn Express, which has teamed up with Will Best and AJ Odudu to launch limited edition 'Fresh or Fried' packages - available online and at participating hotels, guests are able to choose between the two depending on how they tend to feel the morning after a show. It comes as 40 per cent of those polled revealed they like to get up as normal after a gig, while 38 per cent like to sleep in late and have a 'lazy day.' Will Best said: 'I go to lots of gigs, but I still have to get up early for breakfast radio, so while I have fun and definitely indulge in some questionable dad dancing, I still like to wind down properly afterwards. 'A great sleep, strong coffee and a decent breakfast, is what I need when I get up so I'm ready to tackle the day'. Sharing her contrasting approach, AJ Odudu said: 'I am a night owl and I always get a second wind, especially when in a concert environment - I definitely get that from my mum!' Legendary singer, 85, cancels gigs hours before he's due onstage The study also found for some it's not just being more careful following a live music event, as 16 per cent will have a pre-show nap and eight per cent will even meditate. This is especially prevalent in Gen Z (21 per cent and 17 per cent) and Millennials (29 per cent and 17 per cent) - suggesting younger generations take different approaches to the overall gig experience. Carried out through OnePoll, the study also identified the most anticipated shows of the summer with Ed Sheeran topping the poll, ahead of Oasis who came second. Third place went to Beyoncé, with Billie Eilish fourth and Olivia Rodrigo fifth. Holiday Inn Express spokesperson, John Wright, said: "As the research shows gig goers have different approaches - some are night owls who stay up until dawn, while some are self-care enthusiasts who prefer a more relaxed concert experience. 'It's important that everyone can enjoy iconic summer concerts, and the morning after, in a way that suits them best. "Our Fresh or Fried care packages were designed with these distinct personas and gig routines and behaviours in mind."

Younger generations have more 'balanced' approach to drinking
Half of young drinkers never have more than one glass of wine, while a further 39 percent rarely have more than one and three-quarters of Gen Z believe they're living a more balanced life than the generations before them. Over a quarter say they always have half-drunk bottles of wine in their fridge for an average of a week before it's polished off, while a third won't open a bottle of wine if they don't think they will finish it, according to the poll by Poco Vino. As a nation, 44 percent of Brits say they now regularly just have one glass of wine, with 68 percent admitting they'd skip opening a bottle of wine if they didn't think they'd finish it. Tom Dusseldorp, CEO of Australian Vintage said: 'The research shows what we've been seeing for some time now – that Brits (especially younger generations) are embracing a more balanced approach to drinking."

Brits splash out £300 a year on clothes - but only wear half their wardrobe
A study of 2,000 adults found clothes are regularly left unworn if they have been bought for specific occasions such as weddings or funerals The average Brit only wears half of what is in their, with a third splashing out more than £300 on new items each year, according to a poll of 2,000 adults. Clothes purchased for specific events like weddings or funerals often remain unworn afterwards, with 10 per cent admitting to buying items they planned to wear just once. When it comes to shopping for new clothes, one in seven confessed to spending over half of their yearly budget on summer clothing. However, the reasons for keeping rarely worn clothes range from hoping they'll fit one day to keeping them in case they come back into style. As online shopping becomes more common, the study also suggests people are holding onto unwanted clothes due to the hassle of returning them. It was revealed that four in ten don't always return items, even if they're not suitable, convincing themselves they'll find a use for them someday. Furthermore, a tenth admitted to keeping items they ordered but never intended to wear because they 'couldn't be bothered to send them back'. While 34 per cent of shoppers expressed a desire to make more sustainable purchases, only 20 per cent have ever thought about renting fashion items. Despite the rapid growth of the rental fashion market, many are deterred from using rental service for fear of damaging items or failing to return them on time and having to pay additional charges. Candice Ohandjanian, mails and parcels director at Post Office, which commissioned the research, said: "Let's face it, we all love a show-stopping outfit for that big event, but too often those pieces end up forgotten at the back of the wardrobe. ''As people consider sustainability more in their day-to-day, rent-and-return fashion is becoming the go-to way to stay stylish without guilt. We're proud of the role we play in supporting rental fashion brands. "Renting fashion allows people to enjoy new styles, experiment with trends or dress for one-off events - without the long-term commitment or the pile-up of underused clothes. "Our research found that tracked- and signed-for parcel services make rental fashion more appealing." "Renting fashion allows people to enjoy new styles, experiment with trends or dress for one-off events - without the long-term commitment or the pile-up of underused clothes. Our research found that tracked- and signed-for parcel services make rental fashion more appealing." When it comes to rental fashion, 44 per cent of shoppers like the idea of renting clothes or accessories for weddings, while 13 per cent think it could be useful for interviews. Meanwhile, 19 per cent would rent to boost sustainability, and 18 per cent would be able to enjoy high-end fashion that might usually be out of their budget. Post Office has partnered with Hirestreet to urge Brits to consider hiring summer fashion items using their hassle-free returns process. Isabella West, CEO at the rental service, stated: "The stats show 20 per cent of UK consumers now consider renting a dress for a special occasion ahead of buying something they will only wear once. "We hope to make it easy and affordable to rent outfits from your favourite brands, so you can feel amazing in a more sustainable way. ""In the past 12 months, we have seen over 100 per cent revenue growth, which shows just how many people are choosing to shop smarter. "Renting fashion should feel effortless, and this partnership helps make that possible." TOP 10 REASONS PEOPLE HAVE RARELY-WORN ITEMS IN THEIR WARDROBES: Items which are very occasion specific (weddings etc) Items which are unsuitable for everyday wear Items that no longer fit Items I hope to fit into one day Items which I've bought, but they don't really go with anything else I own Items which are out of fashion now but might come back that I can't bear to part with Items which I thought looked great in the shop, but didn't look as good when I got them home – and never returned Items which I thought looked great online, but didn't look as good when I received them – and never returned Items which I should have returned but couldn't be bothered Items which I bought with the intention of only wearing once
