Love Island's Tommy reveals bosses staged fake scenes to cover up luxury treat for Islanders

LOVE Island's Tommy Bradley has opened up about his time in the villa – including the things the show tweaked for the cameras. Tommy then explained: "They [the girls] get their nails done on the same day we had our hair cut, but in my five and a half weeks there, I only had two haircuts. So the girls got their nails done twice." "Here's another secret as well. When we got our hair cut, obviously it would have thrown off the viewers a little bit, like 'how've they got haircuts?'" However, the team seemingly had a plan to keep this going. READ MORE LOVE ISLAND "So they made us pretend to cut each other's hair," he revealed. "It might be in a little montage of getting ready, so I'll get Connor to sit down, and I'll just get my razor and pretend to be cutting his hair. "I used to do it [with the razor] on, but then I cut a bit of his hair once and he went mad. I thought, sorry, I'll turn it off". Tommy lasted just over a month in the villa before being given his marching orders – arriving on the show as one of the original islanders. Most read in Love Island While he initially started up a romance with Megan Forte Clarke, things turned south when she decided to ditch him in favour of getting to know Conor Phillips. Although he tried to get to know bombshell Emily Moran, he eventually ditched her for Lucy Quinn during the Casa Amor twist – with Emily being dumped as a result. Cast of record-breaking Dundalk musical plan 50 year reunion, Christy Moore for Carlingford trad series, Jazz at Byrnes and Louth qualify for All-Ireland Fleadh

The show was Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Coat and it was the late Tommy Clarke, director of the Dundalk Group Players, who decided in 1974 to stage an amateur production of the Broadway and West End hit. "It was considered quite daring at the time and Tommy spoke to the priests before staging it,' recalls local actor and director Matt Murphy, who played the role of the narrator. "This was one of the first rock operas and there were actually protests outside the Town Hall.' The show was a massive undertaking so Tommy, who up until then had staged plays, sought the assistance of Dublin producer Gerry Lundberg who informed him that the show would require a cast of over 100 performers, a rock musician to lead a band, a choreographer, a rehearsal pianist and choral arranger and finally, someone to pull it all together. Amazingly, they manged to enlist Dublin choreography Pat Conway who had actually worked on the London production of the rock opera. The rest of the talent was homegrown, including the cast, chorus, and musicians. With Matt as the narrator, the title role of Joseph went to Gerry Murphy, and the rest of the cast were Liam Grant, Brian Callan, Hugh McKitterick, Kevin O'Connor, Matt Murphy, David Toner, Ciaran Murphy, Tony Hynes, Kevin Maguire, John O'Sullivan, Michael McCumiskey, Carl Boyle, Briege Hughes, Mary Rose Callan, Mary O'Donoghue, Niamh Mulligan and Rosemarie O'Donoghue. Bernie Bingham, who had his own band at the time, was recruited to come up with musicians, and these included Tom Caffrey, Pat Waller, Tony O'Kane, Jimmy Faulkner, Harry Bellew, Eamon Bingham, Brian Cosgrave, Patsy Conroy, Paddy O'Connor, Joe Walker, Oliver Carroll and Bobby Robertson. The colossal job of staging the whole show was undertaken by stage manager Terry McMahon, aided by Gerry Barry, Jim O'Hare, Liz Matthews and Brian Matthews. The show started in October 1974 and ran until the end of 1975, with all the original 100 plus cast remaining unchanged throughout. The show was staged a record 29 times in the Town Hall before playing to other venues. "The first weekend we staged it, there weren't many at it but the second weekend, it was sold out,' says Matt. 'The audience went crazy for it. The hall was packed, people were sitting on the stairs of the balcony. We even had nuns dancing in the aisles!' In what was most unusual at the time, Tommy took the show out of the Town Hall to other venues around town. There were two performances in the old Dundalk Shopping Centre and as well an open air performance in front of packed stands in Oriel Park. Two arranged shows in St. Mary's Hall, Cooley had to be extended to thirteen, and there was also an outdoor performance at Omeath College. Every performance played to packed audiences. The idea for bringing the show to Czechoslovakia came from the Maytime Festival Committee, which led to a fund-raising tour of performances around the country. 'This was at a time when very few Westerners travelled behind the Iron Curtain,' Matt observes. 'It was quite revolutionary to go at the time and I remember when we were in Prague we were followed by groups of men in raincoats.' Their arrival in Prague and later in Ostrava Poruba, where they were representing Ireland at a drama festival, was covered by local television as it was rare for overseas groups to visit the country. They were awarded first prize for their performance of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The group had a reunion for their 25th anniversary in October 2005 and are now planning another reunion for cast and crew of this record-breaking show this autumn. 'We are appealing for anyone with memorabilia or photographs to get in touch,' says Matt Murphy, who with Tony Hynes and Tony O'Kane are among the organisers. Galway Races; Follow the Pied Piper in the First

Gordon Elliott's Pied Piper can register a fourth consecutive win by taking the first, a maiden hurdle, at Galway (2.10) today. The Cullentra-based seven-year-old smashed it last time out, even if it was only a field of three at Roscommon, winning by 27 lengths. The negative may be that Pied Piper is giving weight away to all the others here but as a winner of four hurdle races and three chases previously, don't doubt he is a competitor. The song The Pied Piper is a proven stayer too albeit the singer Crispian St Peters (born Robin Smith) wasn't the most reliable - in fact, he was an insufferable, pretentious git. An instantly recognisable plaintive tune, The Pied Piper landed in the summer of 1966 and was a top five hit in the UK and US: "Hey, come on babe, Follow me, I'm the Pied Piper, "Follow me, I'm the Pied Piper, And I'll show you where it's at." The problem was that while the song was easy-listening on every radio station almost all of the time… It was the singer who wouldn't shut up, insufferable doesn't do justice to him. Among other things, he was claiming to be a better song-writer than the Beatles (he didn't even write The Pied Piper!). He claimed his stage show made Elvis Presley look like the Statue of Liberty, that he was more exciting than Tom Jones and on and on and on. Our Pied Paper with Jack Kennedy on board, even if there is the daunting idea there are four Willie Mullins runners in this 11 strong field, can hit all the right notes at circa 4/1.
