Former Nebraska kicker transfers to Sam Houston State for 2025 season
A former Nebraska kicker has found his new home. Nico Ottomanelli will kick for Sam Houston State in 2025.
Ottomanelli was a member of the Huskers' 2024 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 1 kicker in the state of New Jersey that year, playing for Northern Valley Regional High School.
He was 14-of-17 on field goals in his prep career. As a senior, he was 6-of-8 field goals with 48 extra points. In his junior season, Ottomanelli was 4-of-5 on field goals with a long of 46 yards.
The New Jersey native was a redshirt this past season and did not appear in a game. The Huskers are now left with two kickers on their roster. Sophomores Tristan Alvano and John Hohl will battle for the starting job this fall.
Nebraska struggled last season in kicking, with Hohl and Alvano finishing 13-of-19 field goals. Ottomanelli will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Canada fell to Germany, 104-88, in the final game of Group B in the first stage of the FIBA U19 World Cup on Tuesday, but Florida redshirt freshman Olivier Rioux had arguably his best game of the tournament. The opposite was true on Wednesday as Canada bounced back for a Round of 16 win over Mali, 100-75, while Rioux struggled with foul trouble. The 7-foot-9 phenom has drawn a ton of attention since joining the Florida Gators, and these are the first games fans can see him in action on the court. Rioux is still very raw and learning to manipulate his large body and long limbs without fouling too often. He's not likely to play a ton during the 2025-26 college basketball season, outside of non-conference blowout wins, so these are valuable minutes for someone with an infinitely high ceiling — wordplay not intended. Game 3: Canada vs Germany (L, 104-88) Rioux scored four points on 2-of-2 shooting in the game against Germany. He played earlier than normal, seeing minutes in the first quarter. He positioned himself well on the offensive boards, tipping a missed shot back in for half his box score. That's Rioux's only offensive rebound of the tournament so far, and it's a nice sign to see. There's some Florida, Todd Golden sequencing in there if you look closely enough. That's the kind of film that will get him more minutes next season Game 4: Canada vs Mali (W, 100-75) Four personal fouls limited Rioux to just five minutes on the court Wednesday. There wasn't much room for debate on any of the calls, making this a learning lesson for the oversized center. SEC players are going to take advantage of a big player who doesn't know how to get out of the way. Rioux often goes forward while defending the shot instead of up, which is the only direction he needs to go at 7-foot-9. Insider: Steelers' T.J. Watt wants to be highest-paid non-QB, contract timetable revealed
T.J. Watt isn't looking to just surpass Myles Garrett as the highest-paid defender — his bar is set even higher: he wants to become the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL. This latest development was provided by insider Gerry Dulac, who shared a behind-the-scenes look at Watt's negotiations with the Steelers on Tuesday's episode of The Rich Eisen Show. "The stalemate is going to be that T.J. Watt wants to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league," Dulac said. "And the Steelers are looking at it that he's age 31. In order to accommodate any kind of large contract, it can't be a three-year deal — it has to be a five-year deal, because you need to spread the money out, in terms of the guarantee and signing bonus, over five years and not three. And now you're looking at T.J. Watt being age 36." Dulac then predicted a timetable for the deal — between the Steelers' last preseason game on August 21 and the season opener on September 7. If Watt wants to become the highest-paid non-QB, he'd need to surpass Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase's $40.25 million per year — which is no easy task for Pittsburgh to make happen. Previously, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Watt was growing frustrated over the contract negotiations — hinting at potential trade implications hanging in the balance.
