'Avoid Wrong Signals': Rahul Gandhi's RSS-CPI(M) Remark Triggers Unease In INDIA Bloc
As leaders of 24 opposition parties of the INDIA bloc held an online meeting ahead of the Monsoon session of the Parliament, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks equating the RSS and the CPI(M) have triggered a rift in the group, with Left leaders raising the issue during the meeting on Saturday.
Leaders of 24 political parties, including the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party (SP), NCP-SP, Shiv Sena (UBT), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), CPI(M), CPI, CPI-ML, Forward Bloc, IUML and Kerala Congress, participated in the discussions on Saturday.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, came under scrutiny for his remarks in Kottayam on Friday, where he said his fight was against both the RSS and the CPI(M). His remarks are significant given that Kerala will go for polls in 2026. While the Left and Congress are adversaries in Kerala, it has been a loyal ally of the grand old party.
'I fight the RSS and CPI(M) ideologically, and I fight them in the realm of ideas. My biggest complaint with them is that they don't have feelings for people. You can give whatever speeches, but if you don't feel for people, you are not ready to connect and hug people, you will not be a leader," he said in the event, sparking backlash from Left parties.
Left sources told News18 that, if he wanted, he could attack the government on economic development, but to speak like the BJP is unfair. However, Gandhi's equation of RSS-CPI(M) has left several leaders dismayed ahead of a crucial Parliament session.
The CPI(M) had earlier hit back at Rahul Gandhi's remarks, accusing him of working for the RSS in Kerala. 'In his absurd and condemnable comment equating the RSS and CPI(M), Rahul Gandhi forgets who is fighting the RSS in Kerala," the party said in a statement.
'In Kerala, Congress and RSS continue to echo each other in expressing anti-communist sentiments. As soon as Rahul Gandhi enters Kerala, he speaks that language too."
CPI(M) MP John Brittas told ANI that Congress's vacillations had empowered the RSS and called Gandhi's remarks 'unfortunate" that will affect the unity of the opposition alliance.
'Any sensible political being of this country would condemn such a statement. We have been steadfast in our mission to fight RSS tooth and nail. And Rahul Gandhi's cause should be to take on RSS, " said Brittas, advising Gandhi to refrain from such 'reckless and irresponsible remarks"
INDIA Bloc's Plans
Meanwhile, the opposition bloc – in the absence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) – resolved to raise the issues of the Pahalgam terror attack, US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan and the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar during the upcoming parliamentary session.
Opposition leaders also decided to raise eight major issues like foreign policy 'failure" and 'atrocities" in Gaza, delimitation exercise and the 'targeting" of SCs/STs, women and minorities in the country. Sonia Gandhi, Hemant Soren, Sharad Pawar, and Abhishek Banerjee were among the senior leaders who participated in the meeting.

Trump's claims on ceasefire 'humiliating' for country, says Kharge in RS
Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday termed US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he mediated between India and Pakistan to bring about a ceasefire during Operation Sindoor in May as "humiliating" for the country, and asked the government for a clarification on the issue. Kharge, and other Congress party members also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should give answers to the issues raised by them regarding the Pahalgam terror attack and Trump's claims on ceasefire during Operation Sindoor. The House witnessed a brief adjournment due to opposition uproar during the Zero Hour, and also a walkout by Congress when the Rajya Sabha reassembled for the Question Hour at 12 noon. Kharge, along with several opposition members in the Rajya Sabha, had submitted adjournment notices (under Rule 267) to take up discussion on the terror attack in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor after suspending the listed business of the day. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, the Congress President made a case for a two-day debate on the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, alleged security lapses and foreign policy. "The Prime Minister should answer," he demanded. Recalling that the Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22, Kharge lamented that the terrorists who carried the attack have neither been caught nor killed till date. Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha himself has admitted that there has been a lapse in Pahalgam, he added. Kharge said all political parties had given unconditional support to the government. "In such a situation, we want to know from the government what is the complete situation?," he said. The senior Congress leader further said the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Deputy Army Chief and one of the senior Defence Attache have made some revelations regarding Operation Sindoor. "Apart from this, the government should also clarify its stand on the statement of US President Donald Trump, because he has claimed not once but 24 times that he got the ceasefire done. This is humiliating for the country," he said. Responding to Kharge's demands, Leader of the House and Union Minister J P Nadda asserted that the government was ready to discuss all issues related to Operation Sindoor. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar also assured agitating Opposition MPs that he will ensure a full-fledged discussion on the issue for as much time as members want. Dhankhar said he will discuss the issue with leaders of various parties, as he adjourned the House proceedings briefly till 12 noon amid uproar by Opposition benches. When the House met at 12 noon for the scheduled Question Hour, the Congress party again raised the issue, and later staged a walkout from the House in protest. Operation Sindoor, initiated on May 7, 2025, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, launched a calibrated, tri-services response that embodied precision, professionalism, and purpose. Operation Sindoor was conceived as a punitive and targeted campaign to dismantle the terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and deeper inside Pakistan. A ceasefire was announced on May 10.

I want Shashi Tharoor to...: Kanhaiya Kumar responds to ‘rift' rumours, tells who to blame for Congress' decline
Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who is likely to play a key role for the grand-old party in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, responded to reports about his senior colleague Shashi Tharoor's "rift" with the party leadership with a three-point answer. In an interview with the Indian Express, Kanhaiya recalled his time with the Left Party (Communist Party of India) and said if anyone spoke outside the party forum, they were removed. "They expelled veteran [CPI] leaders such as Somnath Chatterjee, PC Joshi," the NSUI in-charge said. "But now I am in the Congress and the party has a certain beauty that you can continue to be in the party even if you say anything against the Gandhis. There is that much freedom," the Congress leader said. Second, he said, Tharoor is a popular leader. "That is why Modiji has sent him [as part of Operation Sindoor delegation] instead of his own leaders," the NSUI in-charge said. In his point, Kanhaiya Kumar weighed in on the buzz around Tharoor's possible exit from the party. He said it must be Tharoor's decision to leave the party or not, but he wants the senior leader to stay in the Congress. "... whether he [Tharoor] will leave the party or not is his decision. Shashi Tharoor faced criticism from within his party, the Congress, for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies on several occasions. Tharoor had raised eyebrows when he was selected by the central government to lead an all-party delegation on India's Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. When asked if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi must be blamed for the party's decline, Kanhaiya Kumar said he is "against the politics of faces." He said the Congress was a party born out of struggles, "it remained in power for a very long time, and due to that, many problems naturally arise in any party." Kumar said he believes "not being able to convey that message — one with which the Congress was formed and grew — to the grassroots is a very big reason" for the party's decline. "If that message had continued to reach through action, not speeches, then this situation would not have emerged," the Bihar Congress leader said. Kumar said he joined the Congress "because of what is right" and one of that "is Rahul Gandhi's integrity." "Even if speaking the truth leads to immediate electoral loss, it should still be spoken. So when he made a major attack on the BJP at the policy level, whether it was the Rafale issue or the Adani matter, he would speak but many other leaders wouldn't. This situation still exists," Kumar said. He added, "So it is very important to convey what is being said at the top to the rank-and-file at the grassroots. Seva Dal, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, NSUI should work as a mass front." Kanhaiya Kumar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) incharge of the NSUI and former President of JNU Students' Union, is among those leading the Congress's fight in Bihar Election 2025.
