‘Currently in talks': Sky Sports journo drops major Monday morning bombshell as Utd ‘present project' to target

Manchester United have reportedly upped the ante in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko.
After several days of fans questioning whether the Red Devils would even officially enter the race for the Slovenian, they've now 'presented their project and financial offer' to him – but are vying neck and neck with Newcastle United.
Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg confirmed this morning that the two clubs had stepped up their efforts to convince Sesko, with the Magpies 'pushing a lot' to get a deal over the line. All parties are 'currently in talks'.

It'll come as no surprise that Newcastle are really doing their utmost to sign the sought-after 22-year-old. They are now begrudgingly preparing for Alexander Isak's prospective exit after he informed the board he wanted to explore new options this summer.
Liverpool, thought to be his first-choice suitor, have just signed off on a £65 million deal that'll see Luis Diaz join Bayern Munich this week, giving them a timely financial boost to prepare their blockbuster proposal for Isak.
Newcastle have also suffered a series of snubs this summer, having watched primary targets Hugo Ekitike, Bryan Mbeumo, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and James Trafford all opt for moves elsewhere. Now, it's safe to say they're floundering to reinforce Eddie Howe's options ahead of a campaign in which they have Champions League football to account for.
United set sights on Sesko swoop
As for United, they have had to navigate setbacks of their own: Delap was also atop their shortlist heading into the window while Viktor Gyokeres prioritised an Arsenal switch over a reunion with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Now, both clubs are awaiting Sesko's decision. Formal offers are expected to be sent RB Leipzig's way after a verbal agreement has been reached.

Mercato: Ademola Lookman set for departure as Atalanta breaks silence

Ademola Lookman In recent hours, Atalanta has spoken out regarding the future of Ademola Lookman. Ademola Lookman is edging closer to a move to Inter Milan from Atalanta this summer. The Nigerian international is, unsurprisingly, a hot commodity on the transfer market and appears set to leave Atalanta as early as this summer. Luca Percassi, CEO of the Italian club, has confirmed the likelihood of a summer exit. "Ademola has been expressing his desire to leave for some time now. I'm not revealing any secrets. In all our discussions, he was the player who could leave, as selling one player per year is part of our philosophy," he stated during a press conference.

Breaking: Liverpool ‘Reach Agreement' Over Deal for Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak and Liverpool: Verbal Agreement Reached Amid Transfer Talks According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool on a contract lasting until 2031. The Swedish international is now reportedly keen to complete the move this transfer window, with both clubs in contact over a potential deal. 'Isak wants to make the move to #LFC as early as this transfer window. The clubs are in contact,' Plettenberg wrote via social media. He added that Isak's salary at Anfield would be similar to that of new striker Hugo Ekitike, offering some insight into the financial framework of the proposed move. This update represents a significant shift in Liverpool's forward planning and could serve as one of the statement signings of Arne Slot's second summer at the helm. Arne Slot Targets Long-Term Solution Isak's reported contract until 2031 underlines Liverpool's intentions to secure their attacking future well into the next decade. Since Slot's appointment, following Jurgen Klopp's departure in May 2024, the club has demonstrated calculated ambition in the market. After securing the Premier League title in his debut season, Slot's strategy is now clearly focused on longevity and continuity. Bringing in a striker of Isak's calibre and versatility aligns well with the high-intensity, fluid style Slot has implemented. Isak, who scored 21 goals in the Premier League last season, would offer a sharp blend of pace, technical quality and goal-scoring threat across the frontline. Newcastle's Sesko Pursuit Could Accelerate Exit Interestingly, Plettenberg also noted that Newcastle are 'still pushing hard to sign Benjamin #Sesko', potentially as a replacement for Isak. However, Manchester United remain in the race for the RB Leipzig striker, which could complicate matters. Isak's desire to join Liverpool and the Magpies' pursuit of Sesko might expedite a conclusion to negotiations. While Newcastle are not publicly open to selling their star forward, the clear momentum behind Isak's decision and the overlapping transfer pursuits may prove decisive. The timing and tone of this agreement, particularly its length and financial scale, indicate that Liverpool are placing real faith in Isak's potential to lead the line for years to come. 'Alexander #Isak has already reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool over a contract running until 2031,' Plettenberg reported. That level of commitment from both player and club speaks volumes. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis There's a genuine sense of excitement bubbling among Liverpool fans at the prospect of Alexander Isak joining the club. At just 25 years old, Isak has already proven himself in the Premier League and in European competition, and the thought of him being coached under Arne Slot is tantalising. His technical class, movement and intelligent pressing are all perfect fits for the current system. His height and balance offer something different to the current squad, and his presence in the box could finally help unlock deeper-lying defences that have troubled Liverpool in recent campaigns. For many fans, this deal would symbolise a changing of the guard – the next generation of title contenders being assembled under Slot. If the club manage to secure Isak on a long-term deal, it would be a major signal of intent to the rest of Europe. There's still work to be done, of course, and Newcastle won't let him go without resistance. But if Plettenberg's report holds true, then Liverpool may already have one foot through the door on one of the most exciting striker acquisitions in recent memory.

Léon Marchand breaks long-standing 200-meter individual medley world record at World Aquatics Championships

French swimmer Léon Marchand took more than a second off the 200-meter individual medley world record on Wednesday to shatter American Ryan Lochte's long-standing mark. Competing in the semifinals at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, Marchand clocked a time of 1:52.69 – 1.31 seconds faster than Lochte's record set in 2011. He may go even faster in Thursday's final, during which he will look to win a sixth world title and add to the four Olympic gold medals he claimed at last year's Paris Games. 'What's crazy is that it's a whole second (faster than the previous record) … and it's still hard to believe,' said Marchand, per World Aquatics. 'A 1:52 on the 200m – that's insane. I'm so happy. It's just incredible.' The 23-year-old is already an Olympic and two-time world champion in the 200m individual medley, which involves swimming a length of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle in the same race. After an injury-hit start to the year, Marchand returned to competitions in May and now appears to have rediscovered the kind of form that made him one of the biggest stars of last year's Olympics on home soil. 'Over the last 50 (meters), I still had people to chase,' he said. 'I tried to build that last lap well and went all out. It was really tough, obviously, because I was going at such a fast pace.' Marchand, who has 22 medals across the Olympics and World Championships, including 18 golds, will also compete in the 400m individual medley in Singapore, which is scheduled for Sunday.
