Worcester childhood cancer charity announces 2026 London marathon spot
The Worcester-based Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust is inviting applications for a place in the world-renowned marathon event, which will take place in April next year.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to make an impact in the fight against childhood cancer by raising money for the charity.
Abbie Bissell-Blazier, a charity fundraiser, said: "Our charity spot in the London Marathon provides a fantastic opportunity for an individual to not only achieve a personal milestone but also to contribute significantly to our cause.
"The funds raised will go towards our annual running costs of £700,000.
"Every pound raised brings us closer to a world where no child dies of cancer and no family fights childhood cancer alone."
The race is one of the world's most celebrated marathons, attracting more than 40,000 runners each year.
It serves as a platform for raising millions of pounds for various charitable causes.
The trust is looking for someone passionate who is committed to contributing to a cause that matters deeply.
Applicants must commit to raising a minimum of £3,000.
The application process is straightforward, and anyone interested can access the application form on the charity website.
Applications will close on Saturday, May 31, and the selected runner will be notified by Tuesday, July 1.
Potential candidates are encouraged to distinguish themselves by adding a personal touch to their application, such as submitting a video that showcases their enthusiasm and commitment.
Nick Francis, who is on the charity's board of trustees and who is also running the marathon this year in memory of his daughter Sophie, said: "I am taking on the challenge of the London Marathon in memory of our beautiful daughter, Sophie, and to support the important work that the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust does.
"It's my first marathon so I'm feeling the nerves, but each time I have a niggle of pain or doubt I am focusing on memories of Sophie."

In Tuesday's incident, the sex toy landed near the free throw line while both teams were in play, before bouncing to the sideline. (Friday's landed past the baseline.) "You're going to hurt one of us," Cunningham wrote. Other players took a slightly more humorous tone to the odd interruption. The WNBA has yet to comment on the incidents, while the Sky declined to comment at the time, per the Tribune. Though unusual in the WNBA, sex toys have found their way into sports before. The Buffalo Bills have famously had a tradition of throwing them when they play the New England Patriots, and revived the tradition in 2022. But it's unlikely that the family-friendly WNBA will be happy with this turn of events, which raises questions both of player safety and arena security. It's unclear how the league will respond — or if the toys will keep flying in the meantime.

2025 Little League World Series regional tournaments: Full schedule for every bracket
The opening games of the 2025 Little League World Series are quickly approaching, and things really start to heat up with regional tournaments beginning around the country to qualify for a coveted spot in Williamsport, Pennsylvania this year. There are 10 teams of youth baseball players ages 12 and under that will eventually represent the United States ‒ one from the Great Lakes, Metro, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, New England, Southeast, Southwest, Northwest, Mountain and West regions ‒ in the Little League World Series. Each of those regions is holding a double elimination regional tournament over the next week to determine its champion and the team that advances to the main United States bracket in Williamsport. Adult sports leagues are thriving in San Francisco
Team sports have become one of the fastest-growing types of exercise, with 20% of U.S. adults — up from 11% in 2020 — now saying they play them, according to a CivicScience survey shared with Axios. Why it matters: Adult sports are a booming business. Leagues that help you stay active and socially connected are expanding to meet demand. What we're hearing: "No one's going out of business because people aren't playing. In fact, it's the opposite," says California-based Galen Beers, executive director of the Sport & Social Industry Association. State of play: Volleyball (30% of total players), soccer (18%) and softball (15%) were the most popular sports last year, per preliminary data from the trade group, which counts roughly 150 leagues as members. Zoom in: There are several adult sports leagues in and around San Francisco, including Volo Sports, Play in the Bay, ZogSports and Play Recess. Some even find romance on the field. The big picture: In California and beyond, many adults don't get enough exercise — and plenty report feeling lonely, which brings its own serious health risks.
