The Information launches new video product called TITV

The Information on Monday will launch its first live video product, TITV, hosted by reporter Akash Pasricha.
Why it matters: The video format allows The Information to give its readers, who are mostly tech and business professionals, a peek behind the curtain into how the outlet's editorial decisions are made.
Co-founder and CEO Jessica Lessin will host a regular segment talking about coverage themes coming out of the outlet's editor's meetings.
Lessin told Axios in an interview that video and newsroom inside access are things The Information's subscribers have long asked for.
Zoom in: The show, which debuts Monday at 1 p.m. ET, will include guests from within The Information's newsroom and its source rolodex to talk about the biggest stories of the day across tech, business and AI.
Each show will start with multiple segments on top news stories anchored by Pasricha, and then will include guests to discuss news of the day. Each show will vary in length, depending on the news cycle. Some shows could last up to an hour, per Lessin.
The show will live be streamed live on YouTube, X and The Information's website. It will be available on-demand across those channels and podcast platforms, such as Apple and Spotify. The company will leverage the feeds from its former podcasts to reach a built-in audience, Lessin said. Over time, it may launch new show feeds.
The outlet will cut vertical video clips from the show to distribute on social media channels such as TikTok, Instagram, X and others after the show airs.
The newsroom will set up studios in San Francisco and New York so that reporters from both coasts can make regular appearances from the office. Reporters in places like Hong Kong will also make regular appearances remotely.
Between the lines: The name TITV is meant to underscore how ubiquitous the TV-watching experience has become in the digital era. "It's not meant to be literal," Lessin said.
Zoom out: Lessin hopes the video series will drive a meaningful new revenue stream for the brand.
"I think this could become a very significant part of our business," she said.
The outlet has five people working on the new product as of now. Lessin said she hopes to build on that momentum as the show grows.
Amazon Web Services will serve as the product's presenting launch sponsor.
The big picture: TITV is one of the most significant product launches from The Information since its inception over a decade ago.
The company, which relies mostly on high-end subscriptions, has focused on creating more products that allow its heavily engaged subscribers to interact with its reporters and get deeper insights.
Last week, it launched a new AI chatbot called The Information Deep Research chatbot, to help its readers mine through the outlet's trove of business data.
The outlet created a long-form lifestyle and trends reporting section called the "The Information Weekend" in 2021. It launched a series of social networking tools in 2022.

But now, researchers are noticing something surprising: AI is doing more than helping us write to a point of actually changing the way we speak. A recent analysis by researchers at the Max Planck Institute, highlighted in Scientific American, reveals that words commonly used by ChatGPT, like 'delve,' 'tapestry' and 'nuance,' are showing up more frequently in everyday conversation. After examining over 700,000 hours of transcribed podcasts and YouTube videos, researchers found a statistically significant uptick in GPT-style vocabulary, even in people who may not realize they're parroting a chatbot. Welcome to the era of AI-inflected speech. Large language models like ChatGPT are trained on vast amounts of data, and their outputs reflect a specific, polished tone, one that leans academic, thoughtful and often verbose. If you've ever asked ChatGPT to rewrite something, you've likely seen words like 'explore,' 'compelling' or 'robust' pop up. Now that AI tools are becoming a default writing assistant for everything from school assignments to Slack updates, those patterns are starting to seep into human language — not just online, but out loud. 'The language of ChatGPT is infectious,' said Jon Kleinberg, a computer scientist at Cornell University. 'People are drawn to it because it feels authoritative.' And that draw is measurable: in one example, use of the word 'delve' jumped 51% since ChatGPT's public release. This influence isn't all bad. In fact, educators are already seeing how ChatGPT can boost clarity, especially for English language learners or students who struggle with structure. One study from Smart Learning Environments showed that students who used ChatGPT as a writing coach improved their coherence, vocabulary range and grammar. 'AI is helping users write more clearly and confidently,' said Christine Cruzvergara of Handshake, who studies how AI is reshaping entry-level jobs. 'That can be empowering, especially for people who feel intimidated by formal writing.' For non-native speakers, AI-generated language can offer a consistent model to follow; a kind of real-time tutor that never gets tired. But there's a flip side. As AI becomes a silent co-author in our day-to-day lives, our personal writing styles may begin to fade. If everyone's emails, social posts and even texts start to use the same GPT-style phrasing, we risk sounding less like ourselves and more like… well, a chatbot. This is especially true in emotionally charged moments. Some people using AI to help write heartfelt messages, like breakups or apologies, may find their partners appreciate the sentiment, but the writing itself often feels "off." Essentially, the extra polish comes at the cost of emotional nuance. There's also the question of linguistic diversity. ChatGPT, like many AI tools, defaults to Standard American English. Over time, that could diminish the use of regional dialects or cultural idioms, subtly eroding the richness of human expression. Probably not. But, this is certainly a wake-up call reminding us to be more aware. AI isn't replacing our voice, but it is influencing it. Just as the internet once reshaped slang and shortened attention spans, AI is now adding its own fingerprint to the way we communicate. If you rely on ChatGPT or similar tools, it's worth revisiting what you've written. Does it sound like you? Could it use a personal anecdote, a bit of humor, or a sharper edge? Think of AI as a helpful first draft, not the final word. AI is making us more articulate, but maybe a little less human. As tools like ChatGPT continue to shape how we write and speak, the challenge isn't to reject them but to remember who we are without them. Because while ChatGPT can help you craft a flawless sentence, only you can make it feel real by adding your own human touch.

YouTube's announced the next stage of its thumbnail testing rollout, with more users now able to access the feature within the 'Test and Compare' element in YouTube Studio, adding another means to optimize your YouTube content performance. And it's also now adding video title testing into the mix. As explained by YouTube: 'We're starting to experiment with a feature that gives creators the ability to test titles as well as thumbnails using our 'Test & compare' feature in Studio. We're rolling this out to a small percentage of creators at first, but we'll keep you posted on our plans to expand it to more creators.' So YouTube will now let you try out titles as well, as a means to determine the most engaging, attention-grabbing elements for your video uploads. That could be a valuable addition, providing more means to glean feedback on optimal content approaches before full publishing. YouTube originally announced that it was developing its thumbnail A/B testing feature in June 2023, and then launched an initial test with selected creators last year. As you can see in this example, YouTube's thumbnail comparison testing enables channel managers to upload up to three thumbnail images, which are then sample tested with YouTube users. As explained by YouTube: 'YouTube will show your chosen thumbnails evenly across your videos viewers and will select a winning thumbnail based on which one generates the most watch time share.' YouTube says that it's optimizing for watch time on this element because it believes that this metric is the best way to guide your content strategy decisions, and 'support your chances of success on the platform.' In other words, YouTube wants you to focus on this element to grow your channel, which means that it's the key thing that drives exposure and reach. The same process will seemingly now be applied to video titles as well, giving you another feedback option to better align your content with your audience. It could be a valuable addition, especially when you consider that top YouTubers like MrBeast spend significant amounts of time and money on thumbnail and title development, in order to maximize their video performance. Indeed, Mr Beast claims to have a team of six people that develop and test his video thumbnails, trying out up to 20 variations for each of his clips. Titles testing adds another aspect to this, ensuring more data-backed approaches to maximize your YouTube clips.
