CM launches drive to plant 50cr trees in 5 years
Jhunjhunu/Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Sunday launched a massive statewide green drive, declaring the goal to plant 50 crore trees in five years under the Mission Hariyalo Rajasthan. Addressing a large public gathering at the district-level Van Mahotsav held at Mandawara village in Sikar, the chief minister reiterated his govt's commitment to turning Rajasthan into a greener and more prosperous state. The campaign takes inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', launched last year on World Environment Day, and is now gaining momentum across the state. Sharma said that 10 crore saplings will be planted this year alone through public participation. He added that a record 2.5 crore saplings will be planted in a single day on the occasion of Hariyali Teej. "Last year, we planted over seven crore saplings. PM Modi appreciated our efforts in his Mann Ki Baat. Our work was blessed by nature too, with rains filling dams across the state," said Sharma. He also underlined how the state is reviving the traditional reverence for nature, recalling the legacy of Amrita Devi, who sacrificed her life with her daughters to save trees in the 18th century. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Flights, Rentals & Accommodations Hotel Deals | Search Ads Browse Now Undo The CM also announced the establishment of 22 Urban Forests (Nagar Vans) across the state with support from the central govt, with proposals for 18 more already sent. These urban green spaces aim to improve air quality and provide natural havens in densely populated towns. To preserve biodiversity, the state is implementing the One District One Species program, promoting native flora. Under the Aravalli Green Development Project, ₹250 crore is being spent in 19 Aravalli districts to carry out soil works over 3,700 hectares, followed by plantation next year. Special efforts are also being made to green desert districts like Barmer and Jaisalmer. CM Sharma emphasized that the role of every citizen is vital in protecting the environment. "Planting a tree in your mother's name is not just a gesture—it's a movement that can define our future," he said.

Pink City goes green on Hariyali Teej
1 2 Jaipur: On the occasion of Hariyali Teej, Pink City witnessed a green revolution as both Jaipur Municipal Corporations—Greater and Heritage—jointly planted over 3.5 lakh saplings in a single day under the 'Hariyalo Rajasthan' campaign. The massive tree plantation drive aimed to promote greenery and environmental awareness, turning the celebration into a people's movement. JMC-G undertook the plantation of 1.5 lakh saplings. A central control room was set up to monitor the drive, where geo-tagging of every planted sapling was tracked in real time. Meanwhile, JMC-H surpassed expectations by planting over 2 lakh saplings, well above its initial target of 1.5 lakh. The primary event was held at Khadda Park in Civil Lines Zone, where acting mayor Kusum Yadav, commissioner Nidhi Patel, and MLA Gopal Sharma planted Ashoka trees. tnn

Children take out Bal Kanwar yatra in Ranchi on eve of third Somvari
1 2 Ranchi: The spiritual fervour at Pahari Mandir reached a divine crescendo on Sunday morning as chants of "Har Har Mahadev" and "Bol Bam" echoed across the streets, led not by adults but by the youngest devotees of Lord Shiva. The occasion was Bal Kanwar Yatra, a vibrant procession of saffron-clad children carrying kanwars filled with holy water from Nakshatra Van to the revered Pahari Baba Mandir. Over 150 kids participated in the yatra. The yatra commenced with the ceremonial aarti of child actors dressed as Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, seated on a decorative chariot that led the procession. Behind them, hundreds of boys and girls dressed in traditional saffron attire walked barefoot, chanting in unison, their kanwars swinging rhythmically. The route passed through Ratu Road Chowk and Durga Mandir before culminating at the Pahari Mandir, where the children performed jalabhishek of Mahadev with utmost devotion. Adding to the spiritual and cultural experience, children were given items such as raincoats, fruit, snacks, and pencil boxes as a gesture of encouragement. Many parents accompanied their children, creating a family-oriented spiritual atmosphere. "Such events help inculcate discipline, respect, and spiritual grounding in children. When values are nurtured early, they reflect in the way children grow into responsible citizens. I'm heartened to see such enthusiasm among young devotees," said Ranchi MLA C.P. Singh, who joined the yatra at Pahari Mandir. Badal Singh, spokesperson of the organising committee, added, "The Bal Kanwar Yatra began in 2022, and each year we're witnessing greater enthusiasm. This time, children from not just Ranchi, but also from Palamu, Hazaribagh, and Dumka participated."
