I'm a female solo traveler who has been all over the world… five destinations scared me enough to NEVER return

Daily Mail13-06-2025
A female solo traveler has revealed the shock destinations that scared her enough to never return.
Andrea Elliott, who goes by Andreaboldbodytravels on TikTok, shared five places to be cautious about.
'I've received a lot of death threats in the past for the list that I'm about to get into.
'But if you are a solo traveling woman like me, or if you plan on solo traveling somewhere this summer, I would watch this video in its entirety for the list of destinations that I will never travel to again as a solo traveling woman,' she began her video.
She then launched into her list - starting with Manila in the Philippines.
Andrea said she stayed in Bonifacio Global City and 'it was definitely not safe.'
'My hotel wouldn't even let me go to the ATM outside,' she explained.
'They told me to put more clothes on, not to wear a tank top because there were so many men outside and it just wasn't safe for me to walk alone.'
The traveler said she enjoyed the Philippines but 'Manila was not it.'
Next up, to great surprise from viewers, was Paris, France, as she explained: 'I was literally almost mugged twice while on the subway.'
'And mind you, there are police walking around with guns - like a lot of police and law enforcement walking around - but yet I was still nearly mugged while on the subway in Paris,' Andrea added.
'I was also cautioned about pickpockets and advised not to go out alone at night.'
Cartagena, Colombia, was the next destination that Andrea urged solo travelers to avoid.
'Overall, I really loved Cartagena, even though the men were pretty aggressive.
'The reason why Cartagena is on this list is because when I initially got there before I got into the walled city, I was taking a video from my taxi and stuck my arms slightly out of my taxi window.
'The cops then pulled up next to me in a scooter and told me to stick my arm back in - that it wasn't safe to have my cell phone out like that and just to be very cautious with my cell phone and my belongings.'
She continued: 'Not only that, but other locals also told me not to be out and about taking video and that it just wasn't safe for me to walk alone around, especially at night.'
Nearing the end of the list, Andrea issued a stark warning about Caye Caulker, Belize.
'I think Belize is so beautiful,' she began, 'Unfortunately, the men are very, very aggressive.'
'So much so that I had to pepper spray a man that was literally touching my person, touching me physically, just to get me to come into his restaurant,' she passionately explained.
'And y'all, this was multiple times. I had told this man after like passing by a couple of days, like, "No, I'm not interested. I'm not interested. No, thank you."
'And then finally he came up to me and was like touching me enough to where I had to pepper spray him and then he got the point.'
But the number one place Andrea will never go to again - and advises other female solo travelers against - is San Salvador, El Salvador.
'I was almost kidnapped by two men walking in San Salvador next to El Boqueron,' Andrea revealed.
'These weren't gang members, and this was after Bukeli had already cleaned up the streets.
'These were construction workers because they were in a flatbed truck and they had wired spool in the back of their truck.
'They pulled up next to me, of course, I was walking alone.
'Both of them grabbed me by my arms and were pulling me inside of their truck.

The Best See Through Beauty Bags To Shop Now

Packing can be an arduous process. The mere thought of 'getting ahead' of it all can be overwhelming. I should know - I've been there. Nowadays, however? I take pride in packing. Not because I'm particularly good at it, but because I have the right tools. At the top of the list, right next to fashionable yet functional packing cubes and my Antler cabin bag, is a quartet of see-it-all beauty bags. With summer holidays a go, it's likely that one in particular has been flooding your For You Page on TikTok. Space NK's transparent travel bags have long been at the centre of every It-girl's #packwithme video, but a flurry of clear case beauty organisers have joined the ranks to ease our packing woes. At the start of summer, Boots entered the aesthetic beauty bag fold with its Transparent Bags in Black, £15, and Pink, £20. Large enough to house your 200ml products, the medium-size bags make light work of getting your make-up into gear. Beauty Pie has just given clear cases a new meaning, with its all new small, medium and large make-up bags available in see-through summer shades of fresh green, zesty yellow and juicy orange, from £14. While there is certainly a flurry of see-it-all beauty bags on the market, I will always revert to my trusty Space NK transparent travel bags. They range in various sizes, from mini to medium and large, which all come in a kaleidoscope of colours, making for easy categorising. There's even a Double Travel Bag, £46, for stacking packing which is handy for those who like to keep everything in one place. As for me, I'm a chronic over packer, but the method to my madness lies in the form of four colour coded Space NK Large Travel Bags, £36 each, which I categorise into make-up, skincare, body care and haircare edits. While a long haul flight hates to see me coming, I've found that this system of packing (while certainly a little excessive) helps to keep me and all my things in check, leaving little room for overthinking and stressing. That's a win in my book. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, using the Space NK Travel Bags 1. Boots Pink Transparent Bag Price: £20 This newly launched medium-sized beauty bag from Boots measures 18cm (depth) x 26.5cm (width) x 10cm (height). Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says, 'Boots isn't new to transparent beauty bags, in fact the first one I ever tried was the Boots Clear Cosmetic Bag, £5, but the high street beauty giant's new take on clear cosmetic bags is far more robust, durable and high-quality, from its thick trimming to the gold zip.' Pros Cheaper price point Effective for medium-size beauty products Cons Only two colours available 2. Space NK Large Travel Bag Space NK's Travel Bags are bestselling for good reason. The large size is perfect for housing all of your favourite full-size products in one place and is perfect for longer trips. The transparent panels make it easy to see what is inside and are fully wipeable. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'I am wedded to my Space NK Large Travel Bags, I have four on-the-go when I'm on my travels and love categorising each into separate make-up, skincare, haircare and body care edits to keep my organised. I've used them for three years on the trot and they never fail me.' Pros Large size bag Multiple colour ways Cons High price point than others 3. VIEVE The Essential+ Makeup Bag Price: £25 The Essential+ Makeup Bag boasts a faux crocodile, patent black trimmings (with the signature gold VIEVE badge) along side a top clear panel to keeps your beauty bits organised while looking chic. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'It's obvious that this case was cooked up by a pro make-up artist, like Jamie Genevieve. While stylish in every way from the croc trimming to the satin lining, it is also highly functional and makes for the perfect make-up organiser.' Pros Stylish finish Faux croc trimming Cons 4. Large Makeup Bag in Juicy Orange Beauty Pie's newest travel essential comes byway of three new make-up bags which come in tinted finish and three different summer-friendly colour ways that include yellow, green and orange. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'If you fancy something more exciting than a clear case, look to Beauty Pie's summer coded take on things. While still totally transparent, the three cases available boast a tinted finish aesthetic yet easy product finding.' Pros Eye catching Tinted yet still transparent Cons Only one colour available per size 5. M&S Collection 3 Piece Clear Makeup Bag Set With three different sizes available in one set, this M&S kit really gives you more bang for your buck. Each bag can fulfil a different function for your beauty routine, all while being easy on the eye thanks to the black and cream trims and quality zip. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'This is a seriously clever investment. You'll receive 3 bags for the price of one and a shape that takes a departure from most other clear cosmetic bags which are often square and boxy.' Pros Affordable Three bags in one set Cons Shape of bag may mean you can't pack to the brim Sameeha Shaikh is Grazia's beauty writer, covering all categories to bring you insights on the latest trends, industry news and the products you need to know about, viral or not (most probably viral).

Flight attendant's important advice to people washing their hands on planes

As passengers board their flights for summer holidays, a flight attendant has shared the 'filthiest parts' of a plane that you should avoid touching - and it's more places than you might expect A flight attendant has shared important advice to passengers wanting to wash their hands on a plane, suggesting it could introduce more germs than it removes. Cher, a seasoned flight attendant with five years under her belt, took to social media to expose the "filthiest parts" of an aircraft as holidaymakers begin boarding flights for their much-deserved summer breaks. ‌ Known as @cherdallas on TikTok, the cabin crew member revealed: "I've seen people vomit inside the bathroom sinks numerous times so if you drop sometimes in there, I would consider it a loss. Never ever have I seen the sinks get cleaned out. The sink water that you wash your hands with is also filthy. You're not allowed to drink it because it has too much bacteria in it so washing your hands with it is probably not great. ‌ "I don't know what's in it but it constantly degrades my nails and makes them extremely brittle whether I have paint on them, gel or dip, it completely degrades the outside of it." ‌ She also claimed she has never witnessed anyone clean the window shades and has only once seen anyone clean the toilet seat. She advises passengers to always keep their shoes on as the plane carpet is riddled with germs and doesn't receive the care it needs between flights. ‌ In her post, she warned: "Sorry in advance if this grosses you out the next time you fly but everyone should have the facts." Reacting to her post, one user admitted: "I just realised that no matter how much I sanitise and clean everything around me on a plane, it's still awful." Another user chimed in: "I mean, if they wouldn't clean the sink and toilet seats when landing in a destination I am quite sure you couldn't even use them anymore. Normally when landing cleaners come to clean them - flight attendant." ‌ A third user commented: "Seat pockets are filthy too. I've seen the cleaning crew wipe stuff down real quick, but in general airplanes are dirty. I was sick for months when I first started as a flight attendant, no wonder." Another user remarked: "One of the reasons I take Dramamine so I can sleep throughout the flight. Also no to skincare on flights! You just need a face oil if your skin feels dry and SPF." Yet another user added: "I carry alcohol wipes and clean all surfaces around me. I also carry hand sanitiser and rub it before eating or rubbing my face." A final user concluded: "As a former airline pilot, I won't wash my hands in lav. Hand sanitiser from my bag and then wash we land in the airport."

'I went to city with pretty canals, bikes and less tourists than Amsterdam or Venice'

While the likes of Rome, Paris, and Barcelona are on many people's European city break bucket lists, this breathtaking and 'underrated' spot has blown visitors away Holidaying abroad offers the perfect escape from the daily grind, allowing you to immerse yourself in new cuisines, architecture, activities and cultures. Top European cities like London, Paris, Rome and Barcelona are often on people's travel wish lists. However, these popular destinations can be quite crowded. ‌ Thankfully, there's a solution - opt for lesser-known locations. One such city that has left visitors utterly spellbound is a stunning spot in Belgium. The lively city of Ghent is well worth considering for a spontaneous trip or short getaway. It's impossible not to be impressed. ‌ The city boasts remarkable architecture, including St Bravo's Cathedral, Gravensteen Castle, and numerous churches. You can appreciate these architectural marvels while ambling along the tranquil canal, before pausing at one of the many local eateries. The city boasts an array of talented chefs who celebrate regional dishes and locally sourced ingredients. ‌ Regional delicacies to sample include chips with mayonnaise and stew gravy, creamy fish soup, and beef or pork stew. And don't forget to try gestreken mastellen - sweet cinnamon pastries - alongside a cuppa. Located in the East Flanders region of northern Belgium, Ghent is known for its relaxed atmosphere, friendly locals, and lack of tourist crowds. Despite its rich history, the city is a hit with students and offers a vibrant nightlife. ‌ Following her visit, one woman shared her experience online - and is urging others to add it to their travel bucket lists. Travel blogger Caro describes it as Belgium's "most underrated city in Belgium". Explaining why you should visit in a TikTok video, the enthusiastic traveller said: "A visit to Ghent means you get to see some of the most iconic Flemish Masters. The most famous painting is the 15th-century Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by the Flemish Masters Jan and Hubert Van Eyck. Other highlights include Christ on a Cross by Antoon van Dyck (in Saint Michael's Church) and Triptych of Christ on the Cross by the hand of Michiel Coxie (Saint James' Church)." She continued: "Aside from the classics, Ghent is also brimming with modern art galleries and little theatres." ‌ Caro observed that few cities boast a perfectly preserved medieval fortress right in their heart. What's more, she was struck by Ghent's commitment to environmentally conscious living. She enthused: "Sustainability is their middle name. Ghent spearheaded the plant-based movement in Flanders and is still considered the veggie capital of Europe. ‌ "Aside from that it was one of the first cities to implement a low-emission zone for cars, has the largest offering of low-impact accommodations and a tons of little local artisanal shops." She was also thrilled with how simple it was to navigate the city by bike – without the congestion you'd see by the canals of Venice or Amsterdam. Caro stated: "It's a breeze to cycle around as the city centre has really good cycling infrastructure. We ended up renting a bike and cycled the 58km Lys region route around the city. ‌ "This route is one of the circular bike routes aptly named Flanders' Finest Cycle Routes. These easy to follow paths take you through the prettiest natural, cultural and culinary heritage of the region!" Getting there Ghent doesn't have its own airport, so you'll need to fly into Brussels Airport, also known as Zaventem. Direct flights to Brussels are available from Brussels Airlines, British Airways, Qatar Airways, American Airlines, Ryanair, United, Air Canada and Malaysia Airlines. The average flight duration from the UK is approximately an hour and 23 minutes. Brussels Airport is about 42 miles away from the centre of Ghent. The drive from the airport to the city typically takes around 52 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a train from the airport to Ghent, which usually takes about an hour.
