The Health administration has launched Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign in every ward of Bhuban NAC. Dhenkanal MP Rudra Narayan Pany, Parjang MLA Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan, Kamakshyanagar MLA Satrughan Jena and Hindol MLA Simarani Nayak were present at the meeting in Bhuban .

Gadwal: A district-level review meeting was conducted at the District Medical and Health Department office in Jogulamba Gadwal on July 11, 2025. The meeting involved Medical Officers and Multi-Purpose Health Assistants (Male) from all Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the district. The session was chaired by District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), Dr. S. K. Siddappa, and Program Officer, Dr. Prasoon Rani Meda. The officials reviewed the ongoing and upcoming health programs within each PHC jurisdiction and discussed village-wise planning and implementation strategies. Special emphasis was placed on raising awareness among the public about seasonal diseases such as malaria, dengue, and chikungunya, which tend to spike during the monsoon season. The health workers were directed to intensify IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) activities in the villages to help people identify symptoms early, adopt preventive measures, and seek timely medical care. As part of the World Population Day campaign, the DM&HO announced that from July 11 to July 18, 2025, a special awareness campaign will be conducted throughout the district. The focus of the campaign will be to educate the public on family planning and scientific sterilization procedures. The aim is to promote informed decisions regarding reproductive health and to reduce the burden of unplanned pregnancies. Dr. Siddappa emphasized the importance of community participation and grassroots-level health outreach. He instructed the MPHA(M) staff to work in coordination with ASHA workers and ANMs to ensure effective delivery of health education in rural areas. He also stressed that seasonal disease prevention and reproductive health education are both critical to ensuring the well-being of families and the reduction of public health burdens. Dr. Prasoon Rani Meda highlighted the need to strengthen field surveillance, monitor fever cases, and ensure adequate stock of medicines, diagnostic kits, and mosquito repellents at all PHCs. This initiative reflects the district health department's commitment to proactive public health management and awareness-driven intervention at the village level.

Experts from various countries join IIRSI 2025 ophthalmology convention in Chennai
The two-day Indian Intraocular Implant & Refractive Surgery Convention 2025 (IIRSI Convention), the annual flagship event of Intraocular Implant & Refractive Society of India, was inaugurated on Saturday in the city. The convention was launched by Anil Kumar Bachoo, Minister of Health & Wellness, Government of Mauritius, Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Information Technology and digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Arthi Ganesh, Pro-Chancellor, Vels University. Led by Satanshu Mathur, President, IIRSI, alongside Amar Agarwal, Secretary General, IIRSI, and Mahipal S. Sachdev, Chairman Scientific Committee-IIRSI, the convention attracted over 1,000 ophthalmologists, surgeons, researchers, and experts from around the world. The event featured foreign faculty lectures, live surgery, hands-on wet lab focussing on cataract, refractive and intraocular implantation. At the inauguration, Mr. Bachoo highlighted Mauritius' commitment to free and universal eye care, its public health system, international collaborations, and ongoing efforts to build local ophthalmic capacity. He expressed gratitude to Indian medical institutions, especially those in Chennai, for their important role in treating complex cases and supporting Mauritius through training and specialised care. Stephen McLeod, CEO of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, received a gold medal in recognition of his contributions to the field of ophthalmology. Several other individuals were also honored with awards. Ophthalmic experts Gaurav Luthra, Mohan Rajan, Rohit Om Prakash, Ragini Parekh were present.

Among the most serious concerns was that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) used at the site were authored by individuals lacking clinical research qualifications. The guidelines referred to an old rulebook that had been officially replaced in 2019. Auditors noted that key documents related to serious adverse events (SAEs) and protocol violations were also missing. There were no impact assessments, no clarity on medical management provided to affected participants, and no documentation of financial compensation, despite these being mandatory under regulatory norms. Even when SAEs were discussed in IEC meetings, the report said, there was little explanation about causality or follow-up actions. The functioning of the Ethics Committee itself was found to be severely compromised. In multiple instances, committee meetings were held without the required quorum. These findings now come under scrutiny again as HCG faces an ongoing investigation triggered by a letter from former IEC Chairperson Justice P Krishna Bhat. In his resignation earlier this year, he flagged multiple ethical and procedural lapses, including conflict of interest and lack of independence in clinical trial oversight.
