The feds are investigating NBA player Malik Beasley over gambling
The proliferation of legalized gambling has had plenty of unintended consequences. In the NBA, another serious set of consequences could be playing out.
ESPN.com reports that federal authorities are investigating Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley on gambling allegations.

The case traces to the 2023-24 season, when Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks. A prominent sportsbook detected "usually heavy betting" on Beasley's stats in January 2024.
"An investigation is not a charge," attorney Steve Haney told ESPN.com. "Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything."
The NBA told ESPN.com that it is cooperating with the investigation.
Last year, Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter received a lifetime ban from the NBA for his role in a gambling scheme based on Porter's "under" propositions in multiple games.
The NFL has managed to avoid a major gambling scandal since the U.S. Supreme Court opened the floodgates for states to adopt spots betting in 2018. It feels as if it's just a matter of time before it happens in America's most popular sport.

Marlins use 8th-inning rally to beat Diamondbacks 6-4, win 7th straight game
PHOENIX (AP) — Otto Lopez hit a go-ahead, two-run single and Kyle Stowers added a three-run double during an eighth-inning rally and the Miami Marlins completed a three-game sweep by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 on Sunday. The streaking Marlins have won seven in a row. The Diamondbacks took a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning, but lefty Jalen Beeks walked the bases loaded with two outs. Lopez then hit a line drive into left that scored Liam Hicks and Dane Myers for a 3-2 lead. Agustin Ramirez was intentionally walked to load the bases again and Stowers hit a bases-clearing double to push the advantage to 6-2. Arizona's pitchers walked 10 batters and the team dropped its fourth straight game to fall below .500 at 41-42. Beeks (2-1) gave up five earned runs and recorded just two outs, one day after giving up three earned runs and recording one out in an 8-7 loss. D-backs lefty Eduardo Rodríguez had another good outing, giving up one run on four hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five. The 32-year-old had a 1.98 ERA over 27 1/3 innings in June. Miami's Cal Quantrill gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over five innings, striking out five. Lake Bachar (4-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Ronny Henriquez handled the ninth for his third save. Ketel Marte's solo homer in the third put the D-backs up 2-1. Police Responding to Shooting in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
The authorities in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, are responding to a shooting on Sunday in which the gunman remains at large, according to a sheriff's office. The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office asked residents on Facebook to avoid Coeur d'Alene. The post said that 'at the moment as we are dealing with an active shooter situation where the shooter is still at large' and asked that residents not call the office for more information. Kootenai County Emergency Management told residents to shelter in place and avoid the area near Canfield Mountain Trailhead and Nettleton Gulch Road.
