CEO Venu Lambu highlighted that the company is pursuing a "people-first, client-first" strategy—anchored in AI-driven transformation and a robust fresher hiring pipeline—to navigate current market challenges.
In an interview with TOI, Lambu confirmed that LTIMindtree onboarded 1,600 freshers in the June quarter alone and plans to hire between 4,000 and 5,000 freshers over the course of the year. "We restarted fresher hiring this quarter and will continue adding more throughout the year.
We have a comprehensive programme in place to train, upskill, and involve them in project shadowing," he said.
While many industry peers are tightening utilisation policies and reassessing bench strength, LTIMindtree's utilisation remains high at 88.1%. "To sustain growth, we need more people. In fact, I'd prefer to bring utilisation down slightly," the CEO added.
Regarding salary hikes and promotions, the company stated that the next appraisal cycle's decisions will be made between now and Sept.
LTIMindtree last implemented raises in Oct. "It's not that we haven't made decisions—it's just that the cycle allows time. Employees will be updated in due course," Lambu clarified.
In response to industry concerns about declining fresh graduate quality, LTIMindtree reiterated its commitment to structured onboarding. "We treat all our people as valuable assets. We emphasise continuous skilling and have invested heavily in AI-focused capabilities that benefit both employees and clients," the CEO said.

LTIMindtree is also passing on productivity improvements from AI adoption to its customers. Its proprietary platform, Blueverse, has already contributed to significant early wins in large deals. These efficiencies are boosting internal operations as well, with AI-driven initiatives delivering a 50-basis point margin improvement and targeting an additional 100 basis points in upcoming quarters. Despite global economic headwinds, the company remains "cautiously optimistic," expecting to approach double-digit year-on-year growth in the second half of the financial year.
Operating margins grew sequentially by 50 basis points to 14.3%. The mid-tier IT firm reported strong client metrics, with the number of clients generating over $1 million in annual revenue rising 14% year-on-year to 404. The company had 741 active clients as of June 30. LTIMindtree's revenue grew modestly by 0.8% sequentially in the June quarter and 4.4% year-on-year in constant currency, supported by strong deal momentum despite a cautious global IT services environment.
Its operating margin improved by 50 basis points sequentially to 14.3%.
European operations demonstrated the strongest performance with 9.7% sequential growth, whilst North America, LTIMindtree's primary market, increased by 1.8%. "I think we had a good start. That means we expanded our revenue, we expanded our margins and I see the same momentum to continue as we go into the next few quarters of the year. We are working towards a plan where I would like to see if we can come very close to the double-digit year-on-year growth sometime in the second half and at the same time increase our margin by 100 basis points.
I think we did a good job at the end of the year," Lambu said.
Its order book rose to $1.6 billion, up 17% year-on-year. European operations demonstrated the strongest performance with 9.7% sequential growth, whilst North America, LTIMindtree's primary market, increased by 1.8%. "All of the large deals, there is significant infusion of AI and that's where we are committing productivity. That's how most of the last deals are sort of shaping up.
Number two is that in the existing business where we are serving customers, we're looking at opportunities where we can do more for them with less effort.
So in a sense, if we just look at it as productivity gain being passed as it is, then that's one way of looking at it. But if I can actually construct the engagements that is okay. Can I do more work for them with less? If that is possible, I actually get more work coming my way," he added.

'I-T dept ensures strict confidentiality of data'
CBDT chairman Ravi Agrawal The income tax department adheres to strict confidentiality of taxpayer data, says CBDT chairman Ravi Agrawal and asserts that stringent internal controls are in place to uphold confidentiality and integrity. In an interview to TOI, Agrawal says the powers to access digital devices during search and survey operations are merely being updated in the new I-T Bill to reflect the digital age. Excerpts: How will the new I-T Act help the common taxpayer? The provisions of law will become far more simpler for any taxpayer to read and understand. The dependence on a professional to understand the law is expected to see some correction. The use of formulae, tables and consolidation of provisions will enable easier compliance for taxpayers and professionals. The tax department has access to enormous amounts of data and the bill provides power to the department to access social media accounts for investigation purposes. How will the department ensure privacy of data? The I-T Bill, 2025 only re-states and makes explicit the powers already implicit in the Income-Tax Act 1961 under section 132. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 most beautiful women in the world Undo It is important to understand that these provisions are strictly applicable only during search and survey operations. They are not meant to breach the online privacy of common taxpayers, even if their case is under scrutiny. The powers to access digital devices and information during search and survey operations have always existed and are merely being updated to reflect the digital age. Clause 247 of the bill, which allows overriding access codes, is a modernisation of these existing provisions. With financial activities increasingly moving online, including digital banking, cryptocurrency, and cloud storage, these powers are intended to combat sophisticated methods of tax evasion that utilise internet-based tools and technology. Regarding data security, CBDT is acutely aware of the sensitivity of the financial data it handles. Our data collection and analysis are strictly for the purpose of tax administration and are governed by the provisions of I-T Act, 1961. Stringent internal controls have been instituted to uphold confidentiality and integrity, with access to taxpayer data strictly controlled and monitored. The principle of "need-to-know" is followed. The faceless nature of core procedures such as assessments and appeals introduces a layer of anonymity by design. Cases are randomly allocated through an automated system, ensuring neither the taxpayer nor the assessing officer knows each other's identity. This reinforces a neutral, fair, and objective approach, minimising the risk of selective targeting. Risk assessment uses identity-blind, rule-based algorithms. The focus of the department now is building taxpayer trust but how will the new powers impact this? I-T Bill, 2025 provides for no new or additional powers. The department will continue to work on a "Trust First and Scrutinise Later" philosophy, recognising that most taxpayers are honest. The department prefers the "nudge" approach for minor discrepancies, while intrusive steps are for cases with credible intelligence or significant evidence of large-scale tax evasion, concealment of income, or involvement in illicit activities. The goal is to create a deterrent effect for willful defaulters while fostering a climate of trust for the honest taxpayer. By clearly defining the scope of these powers to serious evasion cases, the department aims to assure honest taxpayers that they will not be arbitrarily targeted. How would you assure the taxpayers on this? There is no question of any general surveillance of common taxpayers or their social media accounts. The fundamental approach remains "Trust First," with intrusive actions being a last resort only for proven, large-scale evasion cases, not for honest taxpayers. Even when an algorithm flags a case for scrutiny, subsequent proceedings involve human application of mind and a review mechanism to ensure fairness. Taxpayers also retain the right to appeal any order they believe is incorrect. What has been the role of technology in stepping up refunds? End-to-end automation of ITR processing, including real-time challan validation and automated refund processing, has been implemented. Bank account validation ensures seamless refund disbursal. The average refund processing time has reduced from 93 days in FY 2013-14 to 17 days in 2024-25. Faster refund processing has significantly improved the taxpayer experience and confidence in the system. How is the department using AI, ML and blockchain technology to maximise revenues and plug loopholes? The use of AI within the I-T department is limited now. Going forward, AI will play a critical role in detecting and curbing shell companies, black money, and benami transactions. The upcoming projects of the department such as Insight 2.0 aims at wider use of AI. For example, AI will be used in various areas such as fraud and anomaly detection, pattern recognition, trend identification, predictive modelling, processing of unstructured data. ‘Rooms on rent' boards outside PDKV VC bungalow create flutter
1 2 Nagpur: You can now rent rooms at the Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV) vice chancellor's bungalow at Bajaj Nagar Square. You can also rent the meeting rooms or conference halls in the PDKV guest house in the same premises. The advertisements put up outside the campus say so, though PDKV officials deny any arrangement of this sort with the maintenance contractor appointed there. The VC's bungalow mostly remains vacant as PDKV VC Sharad Gadakh is stationed at the university's Akola headquarters. When TOI asked associate dean Prakash Kadu about the rooms on rent, he said instructions have been given to remove the board, but admitted the guest house has been outsourced for annual maintenance and housekeeping to a third-party contractor. Kadu agreed that it was wrong to advertise the PDKV property in such a way, and said that the rooms in the guest house can be booked only through referral by a PDKV officer. "Around 12 rooms are built in the new guest house while renovation work is going on in the old guest house. The rooms are mostly occupied by govt officials or their family members. Outsiders can't book rooms directly," he said. Kadu mentioned that some other govt-owned guest houses too have been outsourced in a similar fashion due to a shortage of full-time staff. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2 & 3 BHK Homes in Bandra East with Rooftop Pool Shapoorji Pallonji BKC 9 Enquire Now Undo However, no other govt-owned guest house on Central Bazaar Road or East High Court Road displays such advertisements. "The Class IV staff strength has dropped from 400 to 80, and there is hardly any staff to take care of these large properties. In the next few years, these regular employees too will retire. Hence, the university decided to outsource the guest house. The contractor pays Rs11 lakh annually to PDKV. He is supposed to earn by renting rooms for Rs500 to Rs700, and Rs1,200 for outsiders on referral," Kadu said. On Wednesday evening, TOI found the boards still in place outside the PDKV VC's bungalow as well as the guest house. When asked, the staff at the PDKV VC's bungalow said anyone can book the guest house and there was no need to bring any referral letter. The rates quoted too were higher than what Kadu mentioned. As per the staff, rooms are available for Rs1,800 to Rs2,400 for outsiders, with check-in and check-out timings like at regular hotels. Later, when TOI called Kadu to inform him about the boards, and outsiders being allowed to rent rooms, he didn't answer the calls. The contractor too didn't answer TOI's calls.
