
Cops raid hookah parlour, nab four
Acting on a tip-off, the raid, conducted between 1am and 3.30am, led to the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of contraband worth Rs3,83,580 by the team of senior inspector Sandeep Buwa.
The accused, identified as Sunny Borkar, Harsh Khandarkar, Arpan Jamgade, and Brinal Gavare, were allegedly operating the hookah parlour and serving tobacco-based hookah products, which are banned under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). The police seized various brands of hookah flavours, prohibited tobacco products, hookah pots, pipes, cash, mobile phones, and a two-wheeler.
The police found the accused providing illegal tobacco-based hookah to customers. The seized items and the accused were handed over to Sitabuldi police station for further investigation.

Collector T.S. Chetan informed the enforcement officials to step up surveillance to curb drug trafficking across Sri Sathya Sai district. Addressing a review meeting along with Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Ratna at the Collectorate here on Wednesday, the Collector said that the supply networks which target students and workers in the transport sector must be identified and eliminated through joint operations of the line departments. 'We need uninterrupted vigil against narcotics. Offenders will not be spared, and they will invite serious action through the NDPS Act, 1988. Their properties acquired through drug trade would be confiscated, and will attract financial probes,' the Collector warned. Mr. Chetan said that the role of the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) teams pressed into action by the State government had started giving positive results in the fight against drugs. 'All the educational institutions are informed to form EAGLE clubs and display anti-drug posters on the campuses. Sale of tobacco products in the vicinity of the institutions will be dealt with severe action under the COTPA provisions,' the Collector said. He also urged the public to coordinate with the police by informing any suspicious activity on the toll-free number 1972. SP Ratna said that joint operations by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), local police and the EAGLE teams were being taken up vigorously all over the district. Surprise checks would be conducted in government and private hostels as part of initiatives to curb drug abuse.

CBI books TN's Karaikal SSI for demanding Rs 5K bribe
CHENNAI: The CBI anti-corruption Bureau, Chennai, on Friday registered a corruption case against a special sub-inspector (SSI) with the Thirunallar police station in Karaikal based on a complaint that he demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000. According to complainant Manikandan, SSI G Packirisamy booked a case against him on June 2 alleging that he had stored cigarettes and beedis at his residence. This was despite Manikandan stating that he was a wholesale dealer. Multiple boxes of 12 different cigarette and beedi items were seized by the cop under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, and he was arrested and let off on station bail. Later he paid a fine of Rs 200 and received the seized goods, but eight packets and 90 boxes of the cigarettes were missing. The SSI demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 to return the remaining items, the complainant said. CBI registered a case against the SSI under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Bengaluru police find drugs at pub event with minors
Bengaluru: A surprise police raid at a lounge bar on Rest House Road in the central business district (CBD) on Tuesday afternoon exposed a party involving underage drinking. The raid, conducted around 2pm, was based on a tip-off that drugs were being supplied at the venue. Police found around 120 youngsters partying at the pub, many of whom were consuming alcohol and smoking. During the search, officers detained Tushar R, 25, a resident of Vasanthnagar, after a small quantity of ganja was found in his possession. He confessed to bringing the drugs for personal use and to share with other attendees. Suspecting that some of the guests were minors, police called in the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) team. Drug tests were conducted on 28 youths, and 10 of them, including three girls, were confirmed to be underage. They were arrested and later released on bail. Police said the parents of the minors would be summoned and counselled.
