Proof & Company Spirits said that 16 staff will lose their jobs in Singapore as a result of the closure.
SINGAPORE - After 13 years, Proof & Company Spirits - the Singapore-based distribution arm of independent spirits company Proof & Company - has entered provisional liquidation.
It cited casualties in the food and beverage scene as among the reasons for its closure.
'The decision follows a period of mounting challenges for the F&B and hospitality industry in Singapore, including the closure of some of the company's longest standing restaurant and bar customers,' said the company in a statement on Aug 21.
It told The Straits Times that 16 staff will lose their jobs in Singapore as a result of the closure.
The distributor, which most recently had an annual turnover of $7 million in Singapore and $34 million globally, has been supplying over 50 types of independent spirits in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region for the past decade.
Singapore has seen a mounting number of F&B closures in recent years. A total of 3,047 establishments shut their doors in 2024, the highest figure since 2005's 3,352 closures. Still, more than 3,790 new food businesses started up in 2024.
The first half of 2025 has seen 1,404 closures, compared to 1,611 in the same period in 2024.

In the statement, Proof & Company Spirits said that its cocktail bar, 28 HongKong Street, will continue operations.
Its consultancy arm, Proof Creative, will continue to operate independently from its Hong Kong office, and 'remains committed to its global portfolio of ongoing client projects'.
Proof Creative is behind award-winning bars in the region, such as Atlas and Manhattan in Singapore, BKK Social Club in Bangkok and Argo in Hong Kong.
A spokesman for Proof & Company Spirits said of the provisional liquidation process: 'We are doing all we can to ensure a well-managed and productive outcome, while keeping our partners informed every step of the way.'
The process will be overseen by RSM SG Corporate Advisory, which will 'work closely with creditors, stakeholders, and management to evaluate potential paths forward', added the company.
Proof & Company, which operates in four markets - Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand - put its Australian business into voluntary administration in April 2025, citing a 'local economic downturn and a changing landscape in the spirits industry'.
Founded in Singapore in 2012, in what it called a 'period of regional growth in the spirits and hospitality industry', it said that market conditions in the past two years have been 'markedly different'.
It said 'significant market challenges in China, an extended downturn in Australia, and a recent acceleration in bar and restaurant closures in Singapore have all impacted the company's distribution operations'.
The company's distribution operations in Hong Kong and New Zealand will continue.

Neonergia courts GIC to fuel Brazil's power grid

YT screencapture SINGAPORE: Neoenergia plans to propose a sale of its transmission assets to Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC. It also reflects the growing global interest in Brazil's energy infrastructure. The Brazilian electric utility, which is a subsidiary of Spain's Iberdrola, is set to offer GIC a 50% stake in a four-project transmission portfolio by 2026. CEO Eduardo Capelastegui discussed this potential deal during a recent quarterly briefing. He emphasised a careful plan for managing capital and lowering debt. In a previous deal in 2023, GIC acquired 50% of eight operational transmission assets that span 1,865 km and generate BRL 1.2 billion (S$277.63 million). According to the GIC 2023/2024 Report, over the 20 years up to 31 March 2024, its portfolio posted annualised real returns of 3.9%. Latin America accounts for 4% of GIC's global portfolio. The current project is expected to be finished by end-2025. It expands Neoenergia's platform, which manages 6,279 km of transmission lines. Neoenergia's asset rotation strategy is intentional. By selling selected infrastructure assets, the company frees up capital for reinvestment and simplifies its balance sheet. The sales from 2023 and 2025 have already brought in over BRL 1.3 billion (S$300.57 million), funding the company's BRL 7 billion (S$1.62 billion) annual investment in distribution networks and renewable energy projects. Capelastegui highlighted the company's flexibility, mentioning that the sale is not necessary. 'We will carefully assess any offer to ensure it serves our shareholders' interests,' he stated. This careful approach was clear when the company decided to skip the October 2025 transmission auction, explaining that the returns were below their target of double-digit real returns. The partnership with GIC provides strategic benefits for both sides. For Neoenergia, it offers financial strength and shared risks in Brazil's capital-heavy transmission sector. For GIC, it represents a stable, long-term investment in key emerging market infrastructure with substantial growth potential. The promise of the venture is highlighted by recent project completions. In 2024, assets like Itabapoana, Estreito, and Paraíso generated an additional BRL 300 million (S$69.3 million) in revenue annually, and it is anticipated that assets currently under construction will generate an additional BRL 700 million (S$161.9 million). The Neoenergia-GIC partnership is prepared to play a significant role in forming Brazil's power grid infrastructure as the country accelerates its energy transition. GIC's potential purchase of transmission assets and its latest investment in German property tech firm Techem align with its strategic focus on infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions. Singapore's core inflation stays at 0.6% in June, below economists' forecast

Photo: Depositphotos/ake1150sb SINGAPORE: Singapore's core inflation, which excludes private road transport and accommodation costs, was at 0.6% in June — the same as in May but lower than the 0.7% forecast in a Reuters poll of economists. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) said that while prices for retail and some other goods went up, this was offset by lower inflation in the other major consumer price index (CPI) categories, Reuters reported. Headline inflation, which was also the same in May, was lower than expected at 0.8% in June, compared to the 0.9% forecast by economists. In addition, higher transport inflation was offset by lower inflation in accommodation. MAS and MTI said imported inflation is expected to stay moderate, as global crude oil prices have eased and food commodity price increases are likely to remain contained. They added that while trade tensions could be inflationary in some economies, the impact on Singapore's import prices is expected to be offset by weaker global demand. Government subsidies for key services such as healthcare, preschool education, and public transport will also help to keep a lid on price increases, especially for services. Local unit labour costs are expected to rise gradually, as wage growth slows, even as productivity improves. Government subsidies for essential services like preschool education, public healthcare, and public transport will also help keep services inflation down. This latest inflation data comes just ahead of MAS' next policy review on Jul 30. In its April review, the central bank eased monetary policy for the second time this year, after a similar move in January . It also lowered its 2025 inflation forecast to between 0.5% and 1.5% for both core and headline inflation and revised Singapore's growth outlook to between 0% and 2% from 4.4% last year. /TISG Read also: The Gaga Effect: Lady Gaga's shows provided a 'healthy boost' to Singapore's economy, pulling in up to S$150M Featured image by Depositphotos () => { const trigger = if ('IntersectionObserver' in window && trigger) { const observer = new IntersectionObserver((entries, observer) => { => { if ( { lazyLoader(); // You should define lazyLoader() elsewhere or inline here // Run once } }); }, { rootMargin: '800px', threshold: 0.1 }); } else { // Fallback setTimeout(lazyLoader, 3000); } });
