Guilty plea in murder of Alexander Lo, brother of festival suspect Adam Kai-Ji Lo
A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of Alexander Lo, the brother of Lapu Lapu festival attack suspect Adam Kai-Ji Lo.
The BC Prosecution Service says Dwight Kematch pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder on Friday.
Kematch's sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 11 in British Columbia Supreme Court.
Alexander Lo, 31, was found dead last year in a home in East Vancouver, and police have confirmed he was the brother of the man now charged in the unrelated Lapu Lapu festival attack that killed 11 people.
Vancouver police said last year that officers responded around 1 a.m. on January 28 to a 9-1-1 call from a home near Knight Street and East 33rd Avenue, arresting Kematch inside the residence where Lo's body was also discovered.
Adam Kai-Ji Lo is facing 11 second-degree murder charges in the ramming attack in April, when an SUV plowed through a crowd at a Filipino community festival.
Last week, he appeared in a Vancouver court as forensic psychiatrists testified at a hearing to determine if he is fit to stand trial.

Four arrested following ‘dangerous incidents involving stolen vehicles' in Moncton area
Three teens and a 20-year-old man have been arrested following 'dangerous incidents involving stolen vehicles' in the Moncton area. RCMP officers responded to a report late Tuesday afternoon that two vehicles located in a Salisbury business parking lot may have been stolen. 'As police approached with their emergency equipment activated, both vehicles fled at a high rate of speed towards the Homestead Road. Shortly after, one of the vehicles was disabled on Route 126,' said Cpl. Marc Belliveau, in a news release from the New Brunswick RCMP. Police say the driver, a 20-year-old Moncton man, and the passenger, a 16-year-old girl from Riverside-Albert, were arrested. The second vehicle continued fleeing but was intercepted on Catamount Road in Indian Mountain, according to the RCMP. The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Moncton, and the passenger, a 17-year-old girl from Moncton, were arrested. The 16-year-old girl from Riverside-Albert was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. The two Moncton teens and the 20-year-old man all appeared in Moncton provincial court Wednesday. Nathaniel Beatty-Gratto, 20, was charged with: possession of property obtained by crime dangerous operation of a motor vehicle flight from a peace officer resisting a peace officer failure to comply with a probation order He was released from custody and is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 5. Speed and alcohol factors in fatal motorcycle crash, Abbotsford police say

A motorcyclist died after colliding with a Jeep in Abbotsford early Thursday, and police say both speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. In a news release, the Abbotsford Police Department said officers were called to the northbound lanes of Highway 11 near Townshipline Road just after 1:30 a.m. 'Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a heavily damaged Kawasaki motorcycle and a Jeep Compass,' police said. 'Despite the efforts of first responders, the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries at the scene.' The Jeep driver, meanwhile, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The department did not specify whether speeding and intoxication was suspected on the part of the Jeep driver or the motorcyclist. Highway 11 northbound between Old Clayburn and Harris roads was shut down for the investigation and police anticipated the area to reopen at 9 a.m. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash camera video is asked to call the APD at 604-859-5225.
