Meghalaya honeymoon murder case: Two more arrested in MP for destroying crucial evidence
The Meghalaya Police, with assistance from local authorities, have arrested Indore-based building contractor Shilom James and private security guard Balveer Ahirwar from Indore and Ashok Nagar districts respectively. The duo has been accused of destroying a black trolley bag left behind by the prime conspirator, Sonam Raghuvanshi Raja's widow, at a rented flat in Indore. The bag reportedly contained crucial evidence related to the murder.
James was apprehended on Saturday night while attempting to flee to Bhopal, whereas Ahirwar was arrested on Sunday morning from his native village in the Shadora area of Ashok Nagar district. Both men will be produced before a local court in Indore and taken on transit remand to Meghalaya for further investigation.
With these arrests, the total number of accused apprehended in the case has risen to seven. Among them are the deceased's wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, her employee and alleged lover Raj Kushwah, and three hired killers who carried out the murder at Sonam and Raj's behest in Sohra (Cherrapunjee), Meghalaya.

Karnataka HC questions sessions court's John Doe order in Dharmasthala mass burial case
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Friday quashed the ex-parte ad-interim injunction order passed by a sessions court in the city, which had restrained a Dakshina Kannada-based digital media house from allegedly reporting defamatory news linking the family members of Harshendra Kumar D and the temple administration to the alleged burying of multiple human remains for nearly two decades in Dharmasthala. However, the court remitted the matter to the sessions court with a direction to consider the interlocutory applications afresh, bearing in mind the observations made in the course of the order. Justice M Nagaprasanna pronounced the order while partly allowing the petition filed by Kudla Rampage, which challenged the legality of the injunction order dated 18 July, passed by the 10th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru. Making clear that it has not expressed any opinion on the merits of the civil suit pending before the sessions court, or on the criminal proceedings or the veracity of the allegations and counter-allegations, the High Court said that all the contentions, except the one considered in this petition, shall remain open. It also directed the petitioner and other parties to extend their full cooperation to the sessions court in passing the necessary orders.

VMC probe into inflated fire dept purchases delayed
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has formed a four-member preliminary inquiry committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the procurement of safety, rescue, and other equipment for the fire department. While the panel was initially expected to submit its report this week, officials said it may take more time. The civic body initiated the inquiry after reports surfaced about highly inflated rates for several items procured earlier this year from a Surat-based agency, for which the VMC had already made payments of Rs 3.81 crore. The purchases included 24 items ranging from emergency whistles and water bottles to inflatable rubber rescue boats and motors for such boats. The purchase order, issued in April, mentioned unusually high prices for several items such as whistles, water bottles, mosquito nets, and pocket knives. The glaring price discrepancies prompted the civic body to launch an internal inquiry. Sources said a third party managed the procurement, and the bills were reviewed by the audit department before payment was cleared. The order to form the panel was issued on July 26, and it was given three days to submit its report. However, the panel has yet to submit its findings. "The committee is still working on the report and may take some more time," an official said.
