Netflix series about Spotify's origins sees resurgence in popularity
Netflix 's The Playlist, a six-part miniseries fictionalizing the creation of Spotify, is experiencing a resurgence years after its 2022 debut. Despite initially being overlooked by many subscribers, the show has garnered a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes and critical acclaim for its 'near-perfect' portrayal and critique of the music industry. Inspired by the book Spotify Untold, the series dedicates each episode to a different facet of the music industry, offering varied perspectives. Netflix has a habit of prematurely cancelling acclaimed series, including past examples like The OA and Mindhunter. The recent cancellation of the murder mystery The Residence, starring Uzo Aduba, is highlighted, despite its positive reviews and strong ratings, possibly due to high internal performance expectations.

Tiger King star pleads guilty to trafficking animals and laundering money
A Tiger King star from the hit Netflix phenomenon is facing up to 10 years in prison for trafficking exotic animals and money laundering. It has now been five years since the documentary first captivated audiences when it aired in March 2020 during the peak of Covid-19. The infamous series offered a peak behind the curtain of dealers and conservationists of big cats, focusing specifically on the feud between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin. Oklahoma native Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, is currently serving a 21-year federal prison sentence for trying to hire two different men to kill Baskin. Now, however, Bhagavan 'Doc' Antle – who was a central figure – could be facing a similar fate in jail. Antle, who owns private zoo Myrtle Beach Safari, appeared in the first season of the documentary and was the star of the third season. His zoo was renowned for earning hundreds of thousands of dollars by allowing customers to pet and hold baby animals, such as lions, tigers and monkeys, many of whom were still being bottle-fed. Antle would also reportedly sometimes ride into tours on an elephant. But, after pleading guilty in November 2023 to trafficking animals and laundering money, he could now be facing 10 years in prison. The federal charges brought against him came to light after the Tiger King series aired, and he has remained on bail since his arrest in June 2022. Prosecutors said he sold or bought cheetahs, lions, tigers and a chimpanzee without the proper paperwork. It has also been alleged that Antle laundered more than $500,000 that an informant told him was being used to get people into the U.S. illegally to work. After listening to his phone calls, the FBI reportedly heard Antle say during a phone call: 'I had to get a monkey, but the people won't take a check. They only take cash. So what do you do?' It is not yet known what the specific punishment will be sought by prosecutors and any defence arguments for leniency remain undisclosed. More Trending Three other people who pleaded guilty in his investigation have received either probation or a four-month prison sentence. This comes after Exotic announced he had got married yet again in April despite currently being behind bars. The 62-year-old revealed he has got married to fellow inmate Jorge Flores Maldonado, 33. View More » Sharing a photoshopped snap of them wearing suits to mark the occasion, he wrote: 'Never been more proud of someone. Meet my husband Jorge Flores Maldonado.' Got a story? How is Prime Video's Ballard linked to Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer?
Ballard is set to come out this week, delving into the complicated life of Detective Renee Ballard. Prime Video's Ballard has almost landed - but how is the drama connected to The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix? Set in Los Angeles, Ballard is a 10-part drama that sees former homicide detective Renee Ballard (played by Maggie Q) start heading up the cold cases division with help from her team of volunteers. As well as trying to solve some of the history's most complicated long-forgotten crimes, Ballard is trying to overcome her personal issues with some within the LAPD. So as Ballard premieres on Wednesday, July 9, on Prime Video, fans are curious to know how it ties in with a hit Netflix legal drama. How is Prime Video's Ballard linked to Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer? The Lincoln Lawyer, which revolves around the work of charming lawyer Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), is a much-loved drama on Netflix which returned for its third outing earlier this year. Fans are now eagerly waiting for its fourth series to debut, although a release date hasn't yet been confirmed. Ballard and The Lincoln Lawyer are set in the same universe as the series are both based on books written by author Michael Connelly. In fact, Ballard is a spin-off of Bosch: Legacy, another creation of Connelly's with Detective Ballard first introduced in the Harry Bosch series' grand finale earlier this year. Another key tie between the two series is that Bosch, portrayed by Titus Welliver, is Mickey Haller's half-brother. It has already been confirmed in Ballard's trailer that Welliver will be reprising his role as Bosch in the Prime Video drama but it is very unlikely that fans are going to be treated to a Lincoln Lawyer crossover. The Lincoln Lawyer has been airing on Netflix since its debut while Ballard will be coming out on Prime Video. So as the shows are made by completely different studios, these characters are not going to cross paths despite their indirect link via the books. But as Amazon Studios owns both Ballard and Bosch, this is why these series are able to be connected on the small screen. Ballard was able to help Bosch with one of the most difficult cases of his career at the end of Bosch: Legacy so is he going to be able to repay the favour in the spin-off Ballard?
