Bangor manager Lee Feeney on why his newly promoted side are set for ‘huge challenge' to stay up

There is no disguising Lee Feeney's joy and sense of anticipation as he prepares to embark on a Premiership survival mission, but the former Linfield man feels this is arguably the toughest time for a newly promoted team to survive and thrive.

Hearts today finalised their eighth summer signing as Icelandic midfielder Tómas Bent Magnússon signed a three-year contract. The 22-year-old is awaiting international clearance and Scottish FA approval ahead of tonight's Premiership opening match against Aberdeen at Tynecastle Park. Hearts paid an initial five-figure transfer fee to sign Magnusson from the Iceland club Valur Reykjavik, and he is expected to become a key player under head coach Derek McInnes. He joins Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink, Greek winger Alexandros Kyziridis, Portuguese forward Claudio Braga, Irish midfielder Oisin McEntee, Belgian striker Elton Kabangu, Scottish centre-back Stuart Findlay and Albanian winger Sabah Kerjota as new arrivals. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Burkinabe forward Pierre Landry Kabore should take that tally to nine in the coming days. Hearts were still awaiting Kabore's work permit as of this morning as they look to complete another deal. It is expected to arrive any day. Head coach Derek McInnes told the club's official website that he is keen to see what Magnusson can offer in maroon as the 6ft 2in midfielder prepares to get to work. 'I'm pleased we've been able to bring Tomas in ahead of tonight's game,' he said. 'He'll bring a presence to the middle of the park with his height and athleticism, and he's a very dynamic player in that he can both defend and attack. I'm looking forward to working with him in the weeks and months ahead.' In a statement confirming Magnusson's signing, Hearts said: 'Heart of Midlothian is delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated Icelandic midfielder Tómas Bent Magnússon. The 22-year-old joins the Jambos for an undisclosed fee from top flight side Valur, subject to international clearance and Scottish FA approval, penning a three-year deal at Tynecastle Park. 'A tall, energetic central midfielder, Tómas has made a name for himself in his homeland where he boasts a League Cup winner's medal and has been part of a promotion-winning side. Beginning his career at IBV, who the Jam Tarts faced in the UEFA Cup back in 2000, he made their bench aged only 15 before making his professional debut on loan at KF Framherjar-Smastund in 2019 at the age of 16. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Magnusson joins Hearts with more transfers to come at Tynecastle 'Tómas returned to IBV and became a first team regular and in 2021 helped them to second place in Iceland's second tier, securing promotion to the top league. Although IBV would be relegated in 2023, Tómas' performances ensured an instant return to the top tier as they finished the season as champions. 'The beginning of this year saw Tómas move to Valur, where he was part of the League Cup winning side that triumphed over Fylkir in the competition's final with a 3-2 victory. He got his first taste of European football only this month, scoring two goals in three games as Valur saw off FC Flora in the UEFA Conference League first round qualifiers, and drew 1-1 in the first leg of the next round against Kauno Zalgiris. 'Tómas now checks into Gorgie to continue his career and Head Coach Derek McInnes is pleased to be able to bolster his midfield options.' Kilmarnock boss bemoans red card and penalty call in Livingston clash

Stuart Kettlewell confessed the game turned on the decision - but insists his defence should have dealt with the problem Stuart Kettlewell confessed the game turned on a single moment as Killie let a two goal lead slip against Livingston on the opening day of the Premiership season. ‌ And while the new gaffer admitted he felt aggrieved, he insists the points would have been in the bag if his backline had simply dealt with the danger. ‌ A long ball over the top saw defender George Stanger and keeper Max Stryjek hesitate, with the end result being the centre-back being dismissed and a penalty awarded after he was ruled to have dragged down Robbie Muirhead inside the box. ‌ The original decision had been to allow play to continue before a VAR check saw the double whammy punishment for the hosts. Kettlewell reckons the hosts should have been awarded a free-kick but says they've only got themselves to blame. He said: 'It is the classic case of that one moment changes a game of football. We can play better than we did in the first half, but we started turning the ball over, that's where we got two goals from. ‌ 'We had a couple of other opportunities to capitalise a little bit more but you're happy in this league going 2-0 at half-time. 'We were comfortable and then they throw a basic ball down the side of the centre-backs, our centre-back being in the dominant position. ‌ 'We expect them to deal with it. I'm not throwing anybody under the bus, it's just the basics of the game. Then that one moment, the red card, the penalty, the double punishment, makes it a difficult task. 'We shoot ourselves in the foot by the outcome. We can debate the red card and the penalty, but I think that we need to put ourselves in a position where we're not talking about that.' He added: 'I do have complaints about the red card. I actually felt that Muirhead has the initial pull on George. If we deem both pulls the same, then is the foul earlier in the incident? ‌ 'I do want the centre-back to deal with the ball. I don't think it's going at enough pace to guarantee that it's going back to the goalkeeper. But even at that, George's contact, is it enough for Muirhead to go down in the fashion that he does? Is it a red card? 'I probably sit in the camp of it being soft. The game hinges on that one moment, in my opinion.'

Russell Martin addresses Rangers next transfer business, left-back situation and gives injury update on duo

Spurs loanee will not be the last new arrival at Ibrox Sign up to our Football newsletter Sign up Thank you for signing up! Russell Martin has insisted there will be more arrivals and departures at Rangers this summer following the loan signing of Mikey Moore from Tottenham Hotspur. The 17-year-old winger became the Ibrox club's eighth new recruit of the transfer window on Friday after putting pen to paper on a season-long loan deal and he could make his debut against Motherwell in Saturday's Premiership opener providing international clearance arrives in time. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Martin is overseeing a major rebuild as he looks to put his own stamp on a squad that finished 17 points behind Celtic last season with the backing of the club's new American owners. And he revealed that there is still plenty more business left to do with a month to go until the transfer deadline. Rangers head coach Russell Martin during a training session on Friday. (Photo by Alan Harvey / SNS Group) | SNS Group "We still need more players for sure, and we need to strengthen a couple of key areas," Martin told reporters at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Fir Park. "Mikey helps as a lot because he gives us something we don't have. He gives us another option and real flexibility in the top line. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad I still think there will be players leaving and players joining. We have to be really willing and open for that change. The club has needed it now we have to be patient during it, and we are, to make sure we get the right ones in." One player who will not be joining the Rangers ranks is defender Conor Coady. The 32-year-old former England international had been linked with a move to Ibrox for much of the summer but he has instead completed a £2million switch from Leicester City to Wrexham. Martin indicated that Rangers will be looking to sign a left-back with Max Aarons - a more natural right-back - currently filling the position due to being preferred over both Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz. "Max is not going to be the long-term option at left back but he's played there before and he's doing a good job for us," Martin explained. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad "The other guys have to do more to put themselves in the frame. They have to do more in terms of being really consistent day in, day out. Jefte has a lot of potential and some really good attributes, but he knows what we think of him and where he needs to improve to really help us on the pitch and help us win games of football. "Ridvan, we've had really good open and honest conversations. He is sizing up his options. He has a couple of people intersted in him and we'll wait and see what happens on that front." Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz has been the subject of transfer interest. | SNS Group Martin stressed that Rangers are not in the position of needing to sell players before they can sign any more. "I don't think we need players to go out," he said. "The ownership group, Kevin [Thelwell, sporting director] and Patrick [Stewart, CEO] have been really good about it. We have a fair few players who have interest in them and who know their careers probably need to move on to play football, and we've still gone and done Mikey and Gassama and other players. By the end of window we definitely can't have them all in here but it's not a case of having to wait or we need them to go first." Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Asked whether he is confident he will have a squad that can compete for the title, Martin added: "We'll be really confident and hopefully be the end of the window we'll be really happy. "We have a squad that can compete now. We certainly have a starting team that can compete and a few around that. We just need some more depth in key areas and a few people that can help us. We're really happy with the way the squad is going. There's been a lot of change which is not always easy, and we're navigating that the best we can." Martin also provided an update on injured duo Thelo Aasgaard and Hamza Igamane confirming neither player will return in time for the trip to Motherwell.
