No longer dependent on lenders for buying seeds, fertilizers: PM-KISAN beneficiaries thank govt
The monetary aid under the scheme is helping farmers in their needs on time and they now don't have to wait for sale of crops to fulfill their basic needs.
Many beneficiary farmers of Begusarai district in Bihar, while speaking to IANS, also expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for this scheme.
Vidyanand Singh, a resident of Sihma village in Matihani block of Begusarai, said: 'Earlier I had to take loan or credit for farming. But, since Prime Minister started giving Rs 6,000 under PM-KISAN, we do not have to take loans and now we are able to buy fertilisers and seeds on time.'
Fifty-year-old farmer Amar Kumar of Sihma village said: "I have started receiving three installments of Rs 2,000 in a year from the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. This has benefited us a lot. We don't have to depend on others for small things."
Fifty-five-year-old farmer Shyam Sundar Singh, a resident of Sihama village of Matihani block, said that he is a small-time farmer and does farming to earn his living, for which he sometimes had to take loans for fertilisers, seeds and other small works.
'After I started getting money under PM-KISAN, I have stopped taking loans and I am able to save some money too. I am grateful to the Prime Minister as he thinks a lot about farmers,' he said.
Chandan, another villager, echoed similar views and said: 'Farmers had to face a lot of difficulties, particularly during floods and droughts, but ever since we started getting money under PM-KISAN, we are very happy.'
'We are eternally grateful to PM Modi, who thinks so much about the farmers,' he added.

Ernakulam KSRTC bus terminal project gets funding assurance from CSML
Kochi: Amid reports that the Ernakulam KSRTC bus terminal project has hit funding roadblock, hopes have been rekindled with Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) informing the state govt that funds for the construction have already been earmarked. Recently, CSML board noted that fresh approval from the Union housing and urban affairs ministry is required to provide financial support to the project, as the deadline for Smart City projects officially ended in March 2025. The expiry of the deadline prompted a section of board members to demand fresh approval from the ministry. The state govt then sought clarification on whether CSML had earmarked funds before the cutoff. "If the agency hadn't allocated money, no fresh allocation would be possible since the project period ended in March. That's why the govt asked CSML if the funds were already set aside," said T.J. Vinod, MLA. In its response, CSML confirmed that Rs 12 crore had been earmarked for the terminal's construction. Now, only official clearance from the Union ministry is needed to use the funds as intended. The current KSRTC terminal near Karikkamuri in Kochi is in a severe state of disrepair. The old, crumbling structure offers poor amenities, unhygienic washrooms and limited passenger facilities, making it one of the most commuter-unfriendly terminals in the state. To revamp the facility, the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society (VMHS) signed an MoU with CSML and KSRTC for constructing a modern terminal based on the mobility hub model. The foundation stone was laid on Feb 24, 2024. CSML will provide funding, while VMHS will execute the construction. The land adjacent to the existing terminal, owned by KSRTC, will be handed over to VMHS for the project. However, ownership will remain with KSRTC. Waterlogging in the area has been a persistent issue. The govt tasked the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management with studying the site. Based on the findings, a high flood line (HFL) was marked. The site and surrounding roads will be elevated above the HFL before work begins.

Work of 2nd Saraighat rail-cum-road bridge over B'putra to start soon, tender expected next month
1 2 Guwahati: Work on the second Saraighat rail-cum-road bridge over the Brahmaputra in Guwahati will start soon, with tenders to be opened next month, followed by work allotment, officials said on Saturday. While this major infrastructure project was sanctioned during the FY 2023–24 with an estimated cost of Rs 1,473.77 crore, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Saturday said the bridge is targeted for completion by Dec 2029. This bridge at Saraighat has been sanctioned as part of the doubling of the Agthori–Kamakhya railway line under NFR. "The geotechnical investigations have been completed for the design of the substructure and superstructure, and an EPC tender has been floated for the construction of the bridge, including approach roads, rail viaducts, earthwork, and ancillary works. The tender is expected to be finalised soon, and construction work will start immediately after that," NFR chief public relations officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said. As part of the progress, he informed that detailed estimates were sanctioned by the Railway Board in Feb 2024, and the design drawing and report was finalised and duly approved by the competent authority in March 2025. "The north-end approach of 2.694 km will connect to Agthori station, while the south-end approach of 3.07 km will connect to Kamakhya station," it added. Railways is hopeful that once completed, the new bridge will significantly enhance line capacity in the section, which is poised for industrial growth. "Besides improving connectivity, the project is expected to create substantial employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers in the surrounding areas," read the statement. The Union cabinet in Feb last year approved six multi-tracking projects across Indian Railways to facilitate ease of travelling, minimise logistics costs, reduce oil imports, and lower CO2 emissions. The Agthori-Kamakhya section with the new rail-cum-road bridge approved at a cost of Rs 1,650.37 crore was one of them. Projects are expected to increase the existing line capacity of the sections, causing a smoothing of train operations and improved punctuality as well as wagon turnaround time. They will facilitate a reduction of congestion and an increase in rail traffic, officials said.

Situation of many schools in state is deplorable: Satheesan
Kochi: Opposition leader VD Satheesan hit out at the govt on Saturday saying the situation of many schools across the state was deplorable. The condition of Thevalakkara school is particularly poor, according to the child rights commission, he said at a news conference in Kochi. Everyone is responsible for this condition, he said. "Govt needs to take the initiative to improve the poor state of schools. That's why opposition sent a letter to govt. An audit was initiated to check the safety of all schools in Paravur constituency. A questionnaire with 30 questions was prepared for this purpose," Satheesan said. "The audit will cover the safety of buildings and boundary walls, trees, kitchen hygiene and measures to prevent food poisoning. After receiving the audit report, various agencies, including govt, will be tasked with implementing necessary actions. Such tragic incidents should not happen again," he added. "It is not correct for a minister to say that the child should not have climbed up, which was the cause of the accident. Govt must take steps to prevent such incidents in future," he said.
