Paul Gascoigne tells pals 'i'm fine' in message from hospital after collapse
Paul Gascoigne sent a reassuring message to loved ones from his hospital bed today after he collapsed at home. He told a pal: "I'm fine" after he was rushed into intensive care at the weekend.
The 58-year-old Rangers legend was discovered semi-conscious at home on Friday evening. He was taken to a hospital near his home in Poole, Dorset after his collapse.
But Gazza has told pals that he is feeling better. He was expected to remain in hospital for treatment for several days but may be allowed to leave earlier than expected. "He has told friends that he is fine and was going to give an update later today," said a source close to the star told the Mirror: "He has been doing well recently so this was an unexpected setback.
He had a full three months without alcohol over the summer while he was doing various speaking engagements and looked really well."
In a candid chat with the Mirror last year, Gazza discussed his ongoing struggle with alcohol and acknowledged occasional lapses, reports the Mirror.
The incident on Friday occurred when Gazza's friend Steve Foster, also known as 'Fozzie', discovered him in a poor state at his house. Mr Foster, who doubles as Gazza's driver and personal assistant, promptly drove the ex-footballer to the hospital after finding him in his bedroom.
Speaking last night, Mr Foster stated: "Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now."
Gazza's stepdaughter Bianca, who is a reality TV star, his two sisters Lindsay and Anna, and former footballer friends Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Paul Merson and Vinnie Jones are believed to be closely monitoring his health.
Regarded as one of the finest midfield maestros of his era, England legend Gascoigne holds a special place in the hearts of fans.
He earned 57 caps and netted ten goals for England between 1988 and 1998.
Having risen through the youth ranks at his hometown club Newcastle United, he made his first-team debut for the Magpies in April 1985. He found the back of the net 25 times in 104 appearances for Newcastle before transferring to Spurs.
During his stint in north London, he helped Tottenham clinch the FA Cup in 1991 and spent four years with the club before making a move to Lazio. His later career saw him turn out for Rangers, Middlesbrough, Everton and Burnley.
Gascoigne quickly became a fan favourite at Ibrox with his flair and tenacity.
In his debut season, Gascoigne was instrumental in securing Rangers' eighth consecutive league title, scoring a memorable hat-trick against Aberdeen to seal the championship. That same season, he was named both PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year.
Though his time in Glasgow was punctuated by controversy, including high-profile incidents on and off the pitch, Gascoigne's footballing brilliance often overshadowed the chaos. He helped Rangers to two league titles, a Scottish Cup, and a League Cup before departing in 1998.
Gazza's most recent health concern follows the closure of his company in early July due to its failure to submit records on time. Companies House declared that the firm has been struck off and dissolved.

Chelsea agree £20m transfer deal to sell forgotten striker
Burnley have agreed a transfer deal with Chelsea to sign Armando Broja, according to reports. Chelsea have set out their stall in the summer transfer market in a bid to close the gap on their Premier League rivals, with Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro all joining to help bolster Enzo Maresca's attack. The Blues are also working on a £60million transfer for RB Leipzig and Netherlands winger Xavi Simons, who is said to be eager to push through a transfer to Stamford Bridge. Joao Felix and Noni Madueke have both moved in the opposite direction, joining Al-Nassr and Arsenal respectively, and Broja is now expected to follow suit as he looks to secure regular playing time away from west London. Broja, 23, struggled to make a significant impact across an injury-hit loan spell with Everton last season, failing to find the net in any of his 11 appearances for the Merseyside outfit in all competitions. But Broja's disappointing campaign at Goodison Park has not put newly promoted Burnley off a potential deal for the striker and talks have been advancing at a pace in recent days. According to The Sun, the Clarets have reached an agreement worth up to £20million for the Albania international, who has been on Chelsea's books since Under-8 level. Given Broja is a product of Chelsea's academy, the proposed sale would represent 'pure profit' as the west London giants look to balance the books to comply with PSR rules. Broja would become the second homegrown Chelsea player to leave for Turf Moor this summer, with Bashir Humphreys completing a £12m switch in May following an initial loan move. More Trending The report claims Broja is 'open' to the prospect of joining Burnley, but the forward is still yet to agree personal terms with Scott Parker's side. Broja would become Burnley's 11th signing of the summer, with the club investing heavily in recruitment to give themselves the best possible chance of survival on their return to Premier League football. The forward, who has also enjoyed loan spells with Vitesse, Southampton and Fulham, has three years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge. A cameo appearance in Chelsea's FA Cup fourth-round tie with Aston Villa back in January 2024 was the last time Broja featured in a competitive match for his boyhood team. Kieran Dowell accuses Rangers of sleepwalking as home truths hurt in fight to rescue Ibrox career
There has been a fierce backlash following the opening day draw for the Light Blues at Fir Park Kieran Dowell says Rangers' Fir Park flops deserved their Russell Martin rollicking. And the midfielder admits certain Ibrox stars are fighting for their futures after a wake-up call at Motherwell. Gers slipped up on the opening day of the Premiership season for the third consecutive year on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against The Steelmen. After leading through James Tavernier's header, they produced an insipid display and the home side got a deserved late equaliser through Emmanuel Longelo. Afterwards, Martin slated his players' attitudes - accusing them of being ego-driven and slipping into 'self-preservation' mode. He warned those who don't want to work for him that they'll be left behind. Dowell, who is having a Rangers revival under the new boss after it looked like his days at Ibrox were numbered, says the flak was justified. The 27-year-old believes the dressing-down was needed because players have failed under different managers prior to Martin's arrival. When asked if Martin's criticism was tough to hear, Dowell said: 'Yeah, but it was a few home truths. We had a good start to the game and didn't put it to bed. 'We almost sleep-walked into conceding that equaliser and probably deserved it in the end. 'Do the players have a lot to prove? 100 percent. Look, obviously it hasn't been the most successful period for the club and that's down to us as players. 'We've had a few managers now and it's up to us to prove it if we want to be at this club moving forward. Saturday was a big blow for the players, it's a reality check for us.' 'Stuff of dreams' for Longelo as late equaliser rewards sticking to plan
Emmanuel Longelo admits his late equaliser on his league debut for the club was the "stuff of dreams" as Motherwell produced a stirring second-half display to earn an opening day Premiership point against Rangers. The Ibrox side had taken an early lead through James Tavernier's close range header from a corner with the home team initially struggling to implement the style of play manager Jens Berthel Askou all changed after half-time with Motherwell perhaps unlucky not to earn a long-awaited home league win over Rangers."I feel like it was a deserved outcome," Longelo explained to BBC Scotland."We stuck to the manager's game plan very well, even though at times it wasn't working well for us. I felt like the boys dug in and I we should have had the victory."He [Berthel-Askou] just kept telling us to believe in ourselves and believe in our qualities. He keeps mentioning to us in training that we're top players and we just have to have that self-belief every time we're on the training pitch and we step out here to just keep believing in ourselves.""I felt like if we took our chances, more clinically in the end, we would have had the three points, but it's a stepping stone for us."At half-time, questions were being posed as to whether Motherwell's, at times, risky desire to play out from the back might be costing them against such opposition. It cost them the opening goal but sticking with it paid off as the home side increasingly took the game to Rangers."It will definitely boost the morale, boost the belief, so our fans can buy into it," the striker continued. "Once they buy into it, it will help us each and every time we step out on this pitch or whenever we travel away. "As long as we keep at it and keep doing what the manager wants us to do, then they'll [the fans] get on board and it will all come together."
