De Blasio sets an example as Mamdani thinks about staffing up
'One of the biggest de Blasio mistakes was he spent a lot of time worrying about the commissioners and what was going on outside the building, and he didn't spend time thinking about how to run his City Hall,' said another former aide who was granted anonymity to speak freely.
Mamdani's campaign declined multiple interview requests, and he has spoken very little about who he'd hire if elected mayor — saying it would be 'premature to make any personnel commitments at this time' at a press conference Thursday.
In a statement, Mamdani campaign spokesperson Lekha Sunder said the candidate has continued to meet with city government officials 'whose leadership he admires' after winning the Democratic primary. 'Zohran knows that the key to be a successful mayor is to build a team of competent, committed and innovative professionals — and looks forward to doing so once he enters office in January.'
Mamdani has shown an interest in looking outside his ideological cohort. After railing against billionaires on the campaign trail, he said he'd consider asking NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, a scion of one of the city's richest families, to stay on the job. 'I need not agree with each person I hire on every single issue,' he told The New York Times before the primary
Naturally, power players — many that Mamdani doesn't agree with on every single issue — are already lining up trying to give him advice. Attorney General Letitia James and Partnership for New York City President Kathy Wylde both encouraged Mamdani to keep Tisch, The New York Times reported. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told the Times she'd be leaning on him to hire an administration 'of extraordinary expertise and experience.' And Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn told POLITICO she hopes to make suggestions too.
'I've been around for Eric (Adams), I've been around for Bill de Blasio. So I would definitely like to play a role in recommending people,' she said. The Brooklyn Democratic Party leader, who endorsed Cuomo in the primary, shifted her support to Mamdani for the general election and downplayed political labels.
'Whether you're a socialist, whether you're a centrist, moderate, whatever — people are going to be coming to his City Hall to work on how we're going to make these things affordable,' she said.

Miranda Devine: Shocking new poll reveals majority of deluded Dems still believe the Russia collusion hoax was real
A new Rasmussen poll to be published Monday morning shows a majority of Democrats still believe the Russia collusion hoax, even though it has been debunked repeatedly. Astonishingly, 60% of Democratic voters still think 'the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government to win the 2016 election', according to the poll of 1,014 Likely Voters conducted on July 6-7. A whopping 69 percent of liberal voters still cling to the Russia collusion hoax, compared to 27 percent of conservatives, and 45 percent of moderates. Among all voters, more believe it unlikely (49 percent) than likely (42 percent). The fact that liberals and Democrats still believe in the hoax is likely a reflection of their preferred media outlets, such as the New York Times, which refuses to hand back its ill-gotten Pulitzers, and MSNBC, which pays discredited plotters such as former CIA director John Brennan and former Mueller prosecutor Andrew Weissman to act out their Trump derangement on air. Young people are almost as deluded, with 56 percent of 18-29 year olds, believing Trump-Russia collusion was likely and 35 percent who think it was unlikely, while the rest aren't sure. The numbers are about even for 40-49 year olds and flip to the rational for 50-64 year olds, just 31 percent of whom believe the hoax while 60 percent don't. On the recent CIA review that revealed that Obama administration officials, including then-CIA Director, John Brennan, 'manipulated intelligence' about Russia to 'get Trump,' Rasmussen found that 49 percent of voters agreed with the findings, while 35 percent did not. Nevertheless, 57 percent of voters said officials who were involved in the manipulation of intelligence to 'get Trump' should be criminally prosecuted, while 26 percent disagreed, and 17 percent weren't sure. Finally, 53 percent agreed that 'What the intelligence community did to Donald Trump is a bigger scandal than Watergate', while 38 percent disagreed and 9 percent were not sure. The stubborn persistence of the Russia hoax goes to prove the adage: 'A lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth has got its boots on.'

Axelrod suggests Trump to blame for Bondi's ‘180' on Epstein files
Democratic strategist David Axelrod suggested Sunday that President Trump is to blame for Attorney General Pam Bondi's '180' when it comes to releasing files related to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. 'I've said this from the start: Anyone who thinks Pam Bondi decided on her own to do a 180 and inflame MAGA on the Epstein file release hasn't been paying attention,' Axelrod said in a Sunday post on the social platform X. 'There's only one guy who could have ordered it–and had a motive to–but it's sacrilege on the Right to say it!' he added. Right-wing influencers who have long promoted conspiracy theories about Epstein recently turned their ire towards the Trump administration, especially Bondi, due to a recent Justice Department memo seeking to sink those theories. The Monday memo said there was no evidence that Epstein kept a 'client list' or that he attempted to blackmail powerful figures implicated in his crimes. It also concluded Epstein's death was due to suicide, pushing back against theories that he was secretly murdered. Bondi in February said an Epstein client list was on her desk to be reviewed. The attorney general said Monday she had been referring to a variety of files related to the Epstein case, not a specific list of names. Trump has faced rare criticism from his base over the memo, angrily saying during a Cabinet meeting that people should not waste their time talking about Epstein. Bondi has reportedly clashed with deputy FBI director Dan Bongino, who regularly pushed for the release of Epstein evidence as a conservative media figure, over the handling of the case. The president praised Bondi on Saturday for doing a 'FANTASTIC' job amid the uproar. 'What's going on with my 'boys' and, in some cases, 'gals?' They're all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! We're on one Team, MAGA, and I don't like what's happening. We have a PERFECT Administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD, and 'selfish people' are trying to hurt it, all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein,' Trump said in a Truth Social post. Trump told reporters on Sunday evening that Bongino was in 'good shape,' adding they spoke this weekend. 'Dan Bongino, very good guy. I've known him a long time. I've done his show many many times. He sounded terrific, actually. No, I think he's in good shape,' Trump said. The Hill has reached out to the Department of Justice and White House for comment.

Kristi Noem clashes with NBC anchor Kristen Welker over ‘inhumane' conditions at Alligator Alcatraz
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem clashed with NBC 'Meet the Press' host Kristen Welker in a testy exchange on Sunday over alleged 'inhumane' conditions at the newly-opened Alligator Alcatraz migrant detention facility in the Florida everglades. The detention facility, which currently holds 900 people but has the capacity to hold nearly 4,000, has been under scrutiny after Democratic lawmakers toured the facility on Saturday. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., described the facility as an 'internment camp.' Democratic lawmakers who toured the facility claimed that detainees were subjected to inhumane treatment, unsanitary conditions and sweltering heat. Wasserman Schultz claimed that detainees were forced to drink water from the same sink they use for the bathroom, and were packed into 'wall-to-wall cages.' 'Our detention centers at the federal level are held to a higher standard than most local or state centers and even federal prisons. The standards are extremely high, now this is a state-run facility at Alligator Alcatraz —' Noem told Welker in response to being questioned over whether the Florida facility was inhumane, before being interrupted by the host. 4 The detention facility, which currently holds 900 people but has the capacity to hold nearly 4,000, has been under scrutiny. NBC 'More than 30 people stuffed into a jail cell?' Welker asked, cutting off Noem. 'I wish they would have said that back during the Biden administration and back when the Democrats were in the White House when they were piling people on top of each other on cement floors and they didn't have two feet to move. They never did that, and that's why this politics has to end,' Noem said. 'I wouldn't call them jail cells, I would call them a facility where they are held and that are secure facilities, but are held to the highest levels of what the federal government requires for detention facilities –' Noem said before once again being cut off by Welker. 4 Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., described the facility as an 'internment camp.' NBC 'Democrats have called them cages,' the 'Meet the Press' host interrupted. Noem vowed to allow cameras to document the conditions inside migrant detention centers to show how their conditions are superior to centers used in the Biden administration. She also encouraged illegal immigrants to self-deport to avoid the detention process entirely and give themselves an opportunity to return to the country legally. Trump administration Border Czar Tom Homan also took Democrats to task Sunday for overlooking migrant detention conditions under Biden and failing to criticize them until Trump took office on CNN's State of the Union. 4 'Our detention centers at the federal level are held to a higher standard than most local or state centers and even federal prisons,' Noem told Welker. AP 4 Noem allows cameras to document the conditions inside migrant detention centers to show how their conditions are superior to centers used in the Biden administration. ''You didn't see them complaining about, under Biden administration, people being held in a border patrol parking lot surrounded by a fence and sweltering heat, they ignored four years of open borders, historic migrant deaths, historic Americans dying from fentanyl, historic numbers of women and children being sex trafficked.' The Trump administration's deportation policies have been the subject of widespread controversy and multiple court injunctions. The White House has aggressively moved to secure the southern border and has been deporting illegal immigrants at a rapid pace.
