'Sergeant Jim reporting for duty' Suzuki Jimny joins the Australian Police Force
The made-in-India Suzuki Jimny four-door is badged as the Jimny XL in Australia. And the little off-roader has now joined the Australian Police Fleet. Dubbed as 'Sergeant Jim," the Jimny cop car will serve in the Macquarie Police Crime Prevention Unit in New South Wales.
The Suzuki Jimny, however, will be used for engagement at schools and in communities, rather than pursuing criminals. The heavy-lifting, in that sense, will rest on the bigger cars in the Australian police fleet, including the BMW 5 Series, Kia Stinger, Volkswagen Passat, and more.

For the special role, the 'Sergeant Jim" Jimny has received the red and blue livery with yellow highlights. Suzuki has not revealed if the model has received any mechanical changes for police duty. We do expect to see the siren and red and blue lights as it actively pursues engagement.
The Jimny's compact proportions make it more approachable, helping build trust in the community, according to the locals. The local police force also sees it as a great conversation starter and will be on display at several places. Think of it as Australia's version of the Dubai Police supercar fleet. While the supercars aren't used for active police duty, they are quite popular with locals and tourists alike. Notably, the Jimnys that have been inducted into the force have been provided by Suzuki Australia and come at no cost to the local community. In terms of powertrain, the Australia-spec Suzuki Jimny XL comes with the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that develops 99 bhp and 130 Nm of peak torque, paired with a four-speed torque converter.
In India, the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy (second generation Jimny globally) has been a strong part of the Indian Police and Armed Forces, serving in the remotest regions across the country. The new Jimny is also being considered for the Indian Armed Forces, thanks to its lightweight and incredible off-road capability, which keeps the legacy alive.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc claimed a surprise pole at the Hungarian GP, beating McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in changing weather. It's Ferrari's first pole of 2025. Piastri, who leads the championship standings after 13 of the 24 scheduled races, was left to reflect on what might have been after qualifying second on the grid. 'I think the wind changed a lot," said the Australian. 'It always sounds so pathetic, blaming things on the wind, but the wind basically did a 180 from Q1 to Q3, so it just meant a lot of the corners felt completely different." Piastri admitted that the shift in conditions caught him off guard. 'My first lap in Q3 felt pretty terrible because I wasn't used to it, and then I thought the second lap was better – but it was even slower," he said. 'It's so difficult to judge in those conditions – and maybe not the best execution. I was a bit surprised that we couldn't go quicker than that. Second is still a decent spot to start. We'll see what we can do tomorrow." Norris, who qualified third and sits just 16 points behind Piastri in the championship, echoed similar frustrations, suggesting the team may have been too conservative as the wind disrupted their usual rhythm. 'I think Charles did a good job on the last lap and he probably risked a bit more in these conditions," said Norris. 'The wind changed a lot and it really seemed to punish us in a bigger way." Leclerc Takes First Pole of 2025 Leclerc's pole lap not only secured his first-ever top spot in Hungary but also marked Ferrari's first pole of the 2025 season and the 27th of his career. It was a dramatic turnaround for the Italian team, who have struggled to consistently challenge McLaren and Red Bull this year. His late flyer in Q3 edged out Piastri by just 0.021 seconds, with Norris another 0.032 seconds behind — underlining just how tight the session was. Historic Qualifying Tightness In fact, just 0.543 seconds separated pole-sitter Leclerc from 10th-placed rookie Isack Hadjar of Racing Bulls, making it one of the closest qualifying sessions in Formula One history. Ian James pens farewell letter to fans as McLaren exits Formula E: "We'll cross paths again soon"

Addressing the Papaya Army, James thanked them for their trust and support as the team went on to win two Drivers' World Championships and two Teams' World Championships over 103 races in seven seasons. McLaren team principal Ian James pens open letter to fans Ian James began the letter saying that he wrote it with 'a huge amount of pride, as well as with more than a hint of sadness,' as the team closed the final chapter after seven years of competing in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
