Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dhs80,900 and an additional Dhs4,000 in compensation for the damages, to a woman after he defrauded her by impersonating a real estate agent on WhatsApp. He deceiving her with a fake property rental opportunity, sending her property photos and details, and requested her to transfer the amount to his bank account. The case dates back to the time when a woman filed a lawsuit demanding the return of Dhs80,900 and Dhs5,000 in compensation for the damages she incurred. The plaintiff stated that the appellee had scammed her, taken her money, and was convicted in a criminal case filed against him. The court ruled that the appellee's actions were proved fraudulent, as he had wrongfully taken Dhs80,900 from the plaintiff. Consequently, the court ordered him to return the amount and pay Dhs4,000 in compensation for the material and moral damages incurred by the plaintiff.

UAE Central Bank slaps Dhs5.9m fine on foreign bank
The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) imposed a financial sanction of Dhs5,900,000 on a foreign bank operating in the UAE, pursuant to Article (14) of the Federal Decree Law No. (20) of 2018 on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Illegal Organisations and its amendments. The financial sanction is based on a CBUAE examination, which revealed the bank's failures to comply with its Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Illegal Organisations framework, and related regulations. The CBUAE, through its supervisory and regulatory mandates, endeavors to ensure that all banks and their staff abide by the UAE laws, regulations and standards established by the CBUAE to maintain transparency and integrity of the financial transactions and safeguard the UAE financial system.
