Pahalgam terror attack was a Pakistani plot, ordered by its political, military leaders: Report cites probe

The Pahalgam terror attack, in which Pakistan-backed and trained terrorists killed 26 civilians, was planned by Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI and the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) on orders from Pakistan's political and military leadership, The Times of India reported, citing security sources.
Sources compared the plot to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, saying it was an ISI-LeT operation involving only Pakistani terrorists. The ISI reportedly instructed Pakistan-based LeT commander Sajid Jutt to deploy foreign terrorists already operating in Jammu and Kashmir, avoiding the use of local Kashmiri militants to keep the plan secret. Only minimal local support was allowed on a 'need-to-know' basis.
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
According to the report, the attack was led by Sulaiman, who is a former Pakistani special forces commando. He had trained at LeT's Muridke centre in Pakistan's Punjab before infiltrating into Jammu in 2022. Two other Pakistani terrorists were part of the team.
Satellite phone records show that Sulaiman was in the Tral forest on 15 April, indicating he stayed close to the attack site at Baisaran for nearly a week before striking.
Sulaiman was also involved in an attack on an Army truck in April 2023. While J&K Police initially suspected Pakistani terrorists Hashim Musa and Ali Bhai were involved, the investigation has so far confirmed only Sulaiman's role.
Pakistan has long been accused of backing terrorists and using it as a tool of state policy.
On 22 April, terrorists backed by Pakistan killed 26 innocent civilians in Pahalgam, sparking a strong reaction from New Delhi. India accused Pakistan of cross-border terrorism and responded by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and expelling Pakistani diplomats.
India launches Operation Sindoor
In retaliation, India carried out precision strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said nearly 100 terrorists were killed in these operations.
Pakistan called a 'global exporter of terror'
Experts often describe Pakistan as a 'global exporter of terror' due to its ongoing support for extremist groups. Pakistan's military and intelligence agencies provide safe havens, funding, and training to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, which have carried out attacks in South Asia and beyond.
Terrorism used as a tool by Pakistan's military
These terror groups help Pakistan's military maintain influence and justify its power within the country. Pakistan uses them to spread violence and target civilians, while any Indian retaliation is used by the military to stir public fear and tighten its control.
Same tactics during Kargil War
Pakistan used similar tactics during the Kargil War, when its forces secretly occupied Indian positions and falsely presented the conflict as a local uprising. India's counter-offensive eventually forced Pakistan to withdraw.
Long history of harbouring terrorism
India, Afghanistan, Iran, and Western nations have long accused Pakistan of sheltering terrorists and using them to pursue its foreign policy goals. Incidents like the 2008 Mumbai attacks and the discovery of Osama bin Laden hiding in Pakistan have only deepened these concerns.

SC declines plea to deregister AIMIM, suggests broader petition on communal appeals

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a plea seeking directions to the Election Commission of India to deregister parliamentarian Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Musalimeen as a political party. A bench of justices Surya Kant and justice Joymala Bagchi suggested that the petitioner could file a plea on the larger issue of political parties invoking communal statements. "We are not on communal parties , etc. Sometimes, regional parties invoke regional sentiments... So what should be done... There are parties who also invoke caste issues that are equally dangerous. Without criticising anyone, such issues can be raised," justice Kant said. The bench allowed the petitioner to file a fresh plea raising larger issues regarding the validity of political parties with religious objectives. The plea was filed by Tirupati Narasimha Murari , who alleged that AIMIM 's declared objectives were to serve the Muslim community alone, violating the principle of secularism, and hence it cannot be recognised as a political party. The bench, however, observed that as per the constitution of the party, its objective is to work for every backward section. The bench said the party's constitution is "for every backward class in society, including those belonging to minority community... backward both economically and in the field of education... that's what the Constitution professes". Justice Kant said, "There are certain rights guaranteed to minorities under the Constitution... party's political manifesto or constitution says it will work for the protection of those rights granted under the Constitution." The senior judge pointed out that India's Constitution grants protection to minorities. "Suppose a party says we will promote untouchability; that is absolutely offending. That must be struck down, that must be banned... Suppose a religious law is protected under the Constitution and a political party says it will teach that law, they will teach because it is protected under the Constitution... What is only within the framework of the Constitution (that may not be objectionable)," justice Kant said. SC advised the petitioner to file a "neutral" petition.

CID arrests construction firm head in Bokaro forest land scam

Ranchi: The criminal investigation department (CID) arrested the director of Ranchi-based Rajbir Construction company, Punit Agrawal, late on Monday in connection with the over 100-acre forest land scam in Tetuliya mauza of Bokaro district. The CID team nabbed Agrawal from his house located in a residential apartment under the Lalpur police station limits here and produced him before the court on the same day. The court sent him to jail under judicial custody. Agrawal is accused of setting up a fake company, transferring funds into it from the Rajbir construction and utilising it for the illegal purchase of land in Bokaro. Notably, the land, which was acquired for Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), was returned by the BSL management to the forest dept after it was unutilised. As the land remained unclaimed for some period, the land sharks got it illegally registered in their names. The CID, which is carrying out the probe under the supervision of IG Sudarshan Mandal has made three arrests in the case, so far. Two persons — Izhar Hussain and Azhar Hussain — were nabbed in this connection from Bokaro last Saturday. "The CID will be taking all three persons under police remand for gathering more information related to the case. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pernas e tornozelos inchados? The CID would also ascertain whether the 'Gair Mazurwa' forest land was also transferred or not as the figures cited by BSL and the forest department about the plot differ. This is not the only case related to big land scams which the CID is investigating currently. It is also examining scams four times and three times larger than the current one in terms of money in other parts of the state, sources said, adding that the matter would come to light once the accused are arrested.
