Rodrygo looks a Real steal after Madrid lower his transfer fee
Neymar, the Samba Kings' all-time leading international scorer with 79 goals, has played with distinction for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain and is now back with Santos having avoided moves to Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal or any of the other big-hitters in this country.
The same can be said of Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Rivellino, Ronaldinho, Romario or the legendary Pele who never came to these shores.
Roberto Firmino was superb at Liverpool before heading to Saudi, Gabriel Jesus has been more than decent at Manchester City and Arsenal while Richarlison has played well for Everton and Tottenham when he has been fit. Robinho? Not so much.
And Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton are adored at Newcastle United, who were among the first English clubs to sign South American players when they took Mirandinha to Tyneside, while Raphinha has shone at Barcelona since joining them from Leeds United.
Few of them hold a candle to the CV compiled by Rodrygo at Real Madrid but it appears he is not part of the plans laid out by new Bernabeu boss Xabi Alonso and is heading for the exit.
A price tag of around £80million looked a bit rich for potential Premier League purchasers but reports from media in the Spanish capital suggest the 24-year-old may be allowed to leave for a cut-price £50m, which has alerted the Reds and Gunners, among others, to his sudden availability.
Liverpool have yet to get their blockbuster bid for Magpies marksman Alexander Isak over the line and, even if they do, they are likely to be in the market for another forward with the lower asking price making Rodrygo attractive at 11/4 with William Hill to join the Premier League champions.
Mikel Arteta seems to have his focus set on Eberechi Eze at Crystal Palace if he is going to bring in another attacker so the 8/1 Rodrygo goes to Arsenal with BetMGM and Unibet doesn't appeal and neither does 7/1 with bet365 that he joins Tottenham. The transfer fee won't put off Spurs if the player wants to move to N17, but wage demands believed to be nearly £300,000-a-week almost certainly will.
Manchester City are more likely suitors at 20/1 with Hills as are PSG at 28/1 with bet365.

High Degree is 9/1 with bet365 while Havana Hurricane appeals in the Richmond Stakes at 4/1 with the same firm, William Hill, Ladbrokes, Coral and many others.
Windlord looks good in the Gordon Stakes and the Andrew Balding runner is 8/1 with Coral and Bet Victor with Oisin Murphy in the saddle while the wonderful Cercene, a 33/1 winner for us when claiming the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, is 8/1 with Paddy Power, Sky Bet and Betfair for the Nassau.
The gloves will be off in the Buccellati Handicap and course and distance winner Getreadytorumble can deliver a knockout blow to the opposition at 7/1 with several firms including Hills, Betfred and bet365.
Italy's Lorenzo Musetti can make progress at the Canadian Open in Toronto by beating Alex Michelsen in straight sets at 6/4 with bet365 while Marta Kostyuk is 10/3 with Ladbrokes and Coral to defeat Daria Kasatkina in a deciding set in the tournament's women's singles in Montreal.

Fears Pep Guardiola's ‘imminent' divorce could hurt Man City as boss' relationship with wife continues to deteriorate
PEP Guardiola's divorce is set to be finalised 'imminently'. The Manchester City boss and wife Cristina Serra had hoped to keep their split friendly, but sources say there is now 'more urgency' as their relationship has deteriorated. 5 5 5 Pep's marriage woes, reported by The Sun in January, coincided with his worst slump as a manager. And there are fears the troubles could overshadow the start of the new season. The Spaniard has already vowed to leave the Etihad after his contract runs out in 2027, saying he needs to 'focus on myself'. Insiders said his relationship with estranged wife Cristina has moved from 'friendly to cordial' amid 'complicated negotiations'. They expect details to be finalised in weeks and made official as early as next month. Respected Spanish journalists Laura Fa and Lorena Vazquez, who broke the story of their split, insisted there is no way back. Fa said: 'The signing of this divorce is going to be imminent. Evidently their relationship sentimentally has come to an end.' Vazquez said: 'The relationship has ceased to be friendly and has become cordial. We're not saying there's tension between them but the break-up has moved on to another level. 'There's perhaps more urgency to set a date for the end of this relationship.' Pep, 54, and Cristina, 52, have been together for 30 years and wed in 2014. Man City boss Pep Guardiola visits his new business venture Monarka Clinic Cristina, who runs her own fashion business, had failed to settle in Manchester and returned to Spain five years ago. Sources said they agreed to part in December just weeks after he penned a new contract. Cristina told friends it was the last straw. Pep refused to give up and when news of the split broke he was seen emerging from a team hotel still wearing his wedding ring. In March he flew to Barcelona for three days at the couple's £8.5million home. The estranged couple even hired the same lawyer in a bid to avoid a messy courtroom battle. Last month they joined kids Maria, 24, and Marius, 22, at the Oasis gig in Heaton Park. But there were no pictures of them together. Influencer Maria kept her mum's presence a closely-guarded secret by posting only photos of her and Pep at the concert. 5 5

I'm four weeks away – Tom Lockyer reveals he is closing in on football return
Lockyer has not played since suffering a cardiac arrest during Luton's Premier League game against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in December 2023. The 30-year-old Wales defender had previously collapsed on the field just seven months earlier during the Hatters' Sky Bet Championship play-off final win at Wembley against Coventry. Lockyer, speaking ahead of Luton's opening Sky Bet League One fixture against AFC Wimbledon at Kenilworth Road, told Sky Sports: 'I haven't had a break, I've been working all the way through, just trying to get this ankle right and trying to get fit. 'But I've had a really good few weeks and hopefully now I'm four weeks away from getting signed off and told I'm allowed to play football again.' Luton, relegated in May for the second successive season, told Lockyer his contract would not be renewed when it expired this summer. But they have allowed him to use their facilities and work with their physios and medical staff during his rehabilitation. Lockyer also collapsed during Luton's Sky Bet Championship play-off final win against Coventry in 2023 (Adam Davy/PA) The former Bristol Rovers centre-back, who led Luton to Premier League promotion in 2023, added: 'They've been fantastic and have allowed me to come in and use the facilities and the knowledge of all the physios, so I can't thank them enough for that. 'It allows me to stay among the team spirit – there's a good one here. There's been a few changes, but they're trying to hold on to that ethos that no-one is bigger than the team and I absolutely love that. 'It's allowed me to go in every day, still be around it, still feel involved and I'm just itching to get back now.' Lockyer, who has had a defibrillator fitted similar to former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen, snapped an ankle ligament during his return to full fitness, which required two operations.
