The defender was keen to get involved at the Bulgarian club, speaking to the CSKA Sofia website he said: 'I spent an amazing 10 years at Leeds, the club that will always be my home and close to my heart. But it was an opportunity I couldn't refuse.
'European football for a huge club in Bulgaria is all I wanted, to challenge myself in a new culture and a new environment.
'I've never had an opportunity like this. This one seems good for me and my family.'
He spoke about Scottish Premiership legend Stiliyan Petrov's involvement in the transfer: "When I first heard about the interest in me, I was very enthusiastic - to come to a European capital, a big city and a club with such a history.
'I spoke to Stiliyan Petrov and Iliya Gruev, who is at Leeds. They told me great things, which made the decision easier."
Championship clubs will be on high alert with the former Leeds captain likely favouring a move back to England.
The 33-year-old would add a welcomed surge of experience to any club in the league with over 200 appearances in the English Championship for Leeds United.
Cooper joined Leeds from Chesterfield in 2014/15 and started his 10-year long journey at the club, becoming a hugely influential figure both on and off the pitch.
He captained the club to Championship glory in 2020 under Argentinian coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Earning them their awaited return to the Premier League after a decade long stint in the Championship.

Cooper's impressive form for Leeds United earned him 19 caps for Scotland, making his debut for his country in a 2-1 loss to Russia in 2019.
He has since became a Scotland regular and was selected for Steve Clarke's Euro 2024 squad.
Championship club Hull City could be a potential destination for the Scottish centre-back.
Cooper came through the youth ranks at the club, and with the Tigers currently subject to a transfer embargo, it is likely that they will be monitoring the free agent market.

Hibs favourite provides future update after being plunged into free agency

A Hibs favourite of the past is not willing to hang up his boots just yet, as the former Sunderland and Wolves man provides the latest on what's next. The transfer market is entering August with several clubs still looking to bolster their ranks. There are also players keen to make sure their futures are set up and one of those is Steven Fletcher, who left Wrexham at the end of his deal with the ambitious Red Dragons, owned by Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Fletcher is 38 and turns 39 next year but is packed with top level experience. He started out at Hibs, scoring 52 goals in 189 games before heading down south to Burnley. The forward racked up more than 100 appearances for Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday, also finding the net with Wolves, Stoke City, Marseille and Dundee United over his career. What comes next for ex Hibs, Sunderland and Wolves star Speaking on The Warm Up, the forward says he is not ready to stick the retirement label on him just yet, but his big hope is still to be involved in football somehow. He believes he could have made a difference for Wrexham in the Championship following their promotion from League One, having played just shy of 200 games at that level plus 189 in the Premier League. Fletcher said: 'I would like to stay in football in some way. I am on the coaching journey and have done that. I have enjoyed helping people at the end of my career so if I can do that, but I am not 100% sure I am finished yet. It's scary to push that button and say that's me because as soon as you put it out there, I don't want to be that guy who puts it out and three weeks later you are back. I think it's because of the way it ended at Wrexham. I felt I could have played, help them, even in the Championship. I think I could have. 'They are on the phone to you constantly. If I go through my WhatsApp with Ryan Reynolds it's just video after video. I went through a little patch last season where I was coming on with 20 minutes to go and three games in a row I scored the winner. I'd get in the changing room, go on my phone and the first message wasn't my wife, it was him! As soon as I scored he'd be straight on and send me a video. It was brilliant. You'd know it was coming so you'd be going in the dressing room waiting on it and there it was, he was texting you.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Steven Fletcher on time at Hibs The striker also discussed time at Hibs, where he broke through in the era of Tony Mowbray's exciting side. He added: 'It was a great group and I was the youngest of them all. They all looked after me. Steven Whittaker was probably the one looking after me the most, you probably couldn't have Scott Brown looking after you! 'It was good. Broony was my strike partner at the time, he was the striker and I used to get a half day off school to go and play with them and I was up front with him. He wouldn't let anybody kick me to be fair. I think when Tony Mowbray came in, he drove it (mentality change). We went into games thinking we were going to win this, it's the way he set us up. 'I openly admit, when I was at Hibs I wanted to sign for Celtic. Strachan tried to sign me in the January and Hibs wouldn't let me go. At the time I was (gutted). I got told I could go in the summer, Hibs just didn't want to sell me in the January. But then Owen Coyle phoned me and that was it. I was off to Burnley.'

Managing Wrexham as Ryan Reynolds smashes club transfer record and lands Ajax star

Wrexham are fast approaching their opening Championship game away at Southampton and more tweaks could be made before the Hollywood-owned side get their campaign underway Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has had a very busy summer after leading his team to promotion from League One last season. The former Bolton and Sunderland manager has received significant backing to improve his squad from the club's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. ‌ The Red Dragons have so far brought in seven new players, with an eighth imminent in Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore. There have also been several notable outgoings, including Wrexham legend Paul Mullin's loan move to Wigan Athletic. ‌ The Welsh side will kick off their Championship campaign with a tough test at Southampton on Saturday. And Parkinson has indicated there could be more fresh recruits on their way before the season starts. ‌ Speaking on the club's YouTube channel, he said: "Are we completely ready? I hope there's a bit more transfer activity this week but by next Saturday we will be ready for action." Wrexham find themselves in the second tier for the first time in 43 years after registering an astonishing three consecutive promotions. Their ambition shows no sign of slowing either as their owners' once-unlikely dream of reaching the Premier League edges closer. So, how might Wrexham find themselves lining up against the Saints as they look to bring in more new signings? Here, Mirror Football takes a closer look at some of the key moves which could happen, both inwards and outwards. Club transfer record smashed as £7.5m winger arrives Wrexham have already beaten their club transfer record twice so far this summer. The £2.1million acquisition of Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace was the first to top the marker previously set by striker Sam Smith's arrival from Reading in January. That was followed by Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien being signed for a reported fee of up to £5m. The record could potentially be surpassed again as Wrexham chase down a deal to sign Ipswich winger Nathan Broadhead. ‌ Club officials have tabled a £7.5m bid for the Wales international, but are waiting on an answer from their Championship rivals. A combination of injuries and transfer interest in other Ipswich forward could hamper the move. However, all is not lost, and there is a possibility that the Tractor Boys may find a replacement to grease the wheels of Broadhead's switch to North Wales. Ajax star joins in £4m swoop ‌ Despite already bringing in several reinforcements in the centre of the park, Wrexham still appear to be in the market for a defensive midfielder. Ajax man Sivert Mannsverk is one target who has got fans talking after he spent the end of last season out on loan at Cardiff City in the second tier. Reports suggest Mannsverk's signature would cost them up to £4m in total. Ajax are said to be willing to let the 23-year-old leave permanently this summer. The Norway Under-21 international has only managed 18 appearances for the Dutch giants. However, he would significantly boost Wrexham's options in the defensive midfield role. ‌ Parkinson cuts players loose to trim bloated squad Wrexham's bloated squad could prove to be a problem for Parkinson unless he takes action soon. The Red Dragons currently have more than 30 senior players on their books after a flurry of transfer activity. ‌ Championship clubs can only have squads of up to 25 players under league rules. It means Wrexham could be left with some unhappy faces who find themselves surplus to requirements. Parkinson has already sanctioned loan moves for Mullin and Jake Bickerstaff, while Luke Bolton and Will Boyle have left permanently for Mansfield and Shrewsbury respectively. More departures are needed though, with reports that striker Ollie Palmer could be on his way out. Sign up to our newsletter!
