Rising star rider Billy looks to shine under blue skies at Redcar Races
The 19-year-old rising star of the weighing room was 'gutted' to be given an 11-day ban for improper riding at Newcastle earlier this month, meaning he will miss both days of the Epsom Derby meeting.
Loughnane, who was crowned champion all-weather jockey in April despite riding much of the winter in Australia, looks to be the man to follow with an attractive book of rides on Redcar's eight-race card.
With plenty of seaside sunshine forecast for Monday, Loughnane has plenty to look forward to, including Mister Blue Sky for Osmotherley trainer Gemma Tutty in the racingtv.com Handicap.
The gelding kept on well to get off the mark over six furlongs at Hamilton on May 4 and will be a popular choice to defy a penalty over an extra furlong.
The danger could be Tim Easterby's Perfidia who was a staying on second to easy winner City of Strangers at Redcar on April 21 and could also be suited by an extra furlong.
Loughnane also looks to have a couple of plum rides for powerful Newmarket trainer George Boughey, with Calafiori and recent Redcar winner Cadarn.
Calafiori lines up for the racingtv.com EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (Division 2) having improved markedly from his debut to be second of 13 over the minimum trip at Leicester. He ran on well inside the final furlong that day and now tackles six furlongs.
Cadarn, a cosy winner at Redcar on April 21, lines up in the Marske Fabrication & Engineering Straight Mile Handicap and could be capable of following up despite a 3lbs penalty.
Loughnane will also fancy his chances when he teams up with trainer David Evans on Early Release in the Join Racing TV Now Handicap. The gelding was beaten only a neck at Windsor last time and can make the long trip from Monmouthshire pay off.
Sugar Baby, another recent Redcar winner, is back for more in the Watch Racing TV In Stunning HD Handicap (Division 2), with Peter Niven's gelding looking to defy a 3lbs penalty. In-form Callum Rodriguez is back in the plate.
However, Michael Dods is double-handed in the race with Deputy (Oliver Stammers) and Cuban Storm (Lewis Edmunds) – both previous winners at Redcar. Deputy won at Redcar on his last outing of 2024 and is appearing for the first time this season. Cuban Storm is back to the same mark he had when winning at this meeting last year when ground conditions were similar.
Dods has another course and distance winner in the form of Taygar in the Watch Racing TV In Stunning HD Handicap (Division 1). The Churchill filly won over six furlongs in the mud under an inspired Lewis Edmunds ride at Redcar in November and had a pipe-opener over a furlong less at Doncaster on her first run of 2025.
She's back to six furlongs with Edmunds again in the saddle and, although ground conditions will be very different this time, she has some decent form on faster going.
The much-travelled Luke Morris makes the trip to Redcar for two rides – Analogical and debutante Project Incheon.
Analogical, trained at Newmarket by veteran trainer Sir Mark Prescott, stayed on well to break his duck at Beverley last time, and can follow up under a six-pound penalty in the Celebrate The Life of Joe Newton Handicap.
Project Incheon, a son of Zoustar, goes to post for the first time in the opening racingtv.com EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (Division 1) but the market will be the best guide to a race largely made up of first-timers.

Darren Till, Luke Rockhold erupt over PEDs, 'weird' negotiations, more in fiery Misfits Boxing face-to-face
Tensions are already rising between former UFC middleweights Darren Till and Luke Rockhold. Timing never aligned for Till and Rockhold to collide while still under the UFC banner. Instead, they're now set to compete in a six-round, 193-pound boxing match at Misfits Boxing 22 on Aug. 30 in Manchester, England. Till and the former UFC middleweight champion met face-to-face for the first time on Wednesday at a pre-fight press conference in London. Afterward, their verbal jabs continued to fly on a heated virtual faceoff on Uncrowned's "The Ariel Helwani Show," which led to Till accusing Rockhold of taking performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). Till: "I'm gonna f***ing beat you up just for being a little juice head c***." Rockhold: "You're not 'Tilly,' you're 'T****es' now. You're f***ing 'T****es.'" Till: "I'm just like 'DC' (Daniel Cormier). 'DC' was a big fat jack of potato, but he could still fight like f***. I'm the white 'DC.'" Rockhold: "Ask 'DC' how our boxing matches went. I made t****es fly. ... You better get in shape and shut up." Till first lobbed the PED accusations at Rockhold during Wednesday's pre-fight press conference, while Rockhold countered with similar accusations of his own toward Till. Throughout their professional combat sports careers, neither man has tested positive for any banned substances. "You can get the VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) involved," Rockhold said to Till. "I had local guys telling me everybody from your team has popped. And it's always the person accusing people the most who are on s***." From a purely fighting perspective, both have been known for their strong striking abilities, albeit in different respects. Rockhold will be Till's third pro boxing match (fourth overall), while Rockhold's lone boxing appearance was in a ill-fated bare-knuckle match with Mike Perry in April 2023. Although Till and Rockhold have both been knocked out in their MMA careers, they've each managed to avoid that fate in competition since leaving the UFC. Despite Till having the advantage in recent boxing experience, Rockhold remains confident that his chin will hold up better in their matchup. Till, of course, disagreed. "I can take every shot," Till stated. "Look at the shots I took from all the guys I fought at middleweight. No one knocked me out. Nobody knocked me out at middleweight, and I fought all the best guys. [Robert] Whittaker, Dricus [du Plessis], all them guys, [Kelvin] Gastelum. I laughed at everyone and I've got a f***ing chin. You got battered by Mike Perry, and let me just tell ya, I'm not even looking for the Mike Perry fight now. He's that much of a bum. He's the biggest bum out there. He's a bum." Historically, Rockhold has been the physically bigger fighter, competing as high as 205 pounds in the UFC light heavyweight division, while Till started out as a 170-pound welterweight. They'll meet in somewhat of a middle ground at 193 pounds for Misfits Boxing 22. Rockhold last competed at 195 pounds for his Karate Combat victory over Joe Schilling last year. That being said, Rockhold claims it wasn't easy landing on the match's weight. "This kid's been b****ing about everything," Rockhold said. "He wanted it 185. His last fight was 198, I believe. Then he said he wouldn't go above 188, which is just f***ing weird and dumb. It just shows weakness. Then, somehow, we b**** about that for a couple weeks and settle on 193. I don't know what these f***ing weights are he keeps coming up with. But let's pick a real weight. Have a pair of balls and let's just do this right. What are we b****ing about? We're all in the same thing. His last fights were much above weight, and he's just obviously scared and trying to take weight away to make things harder [for me]. Make himself up, try to say I'm slower, try to say I'm chinny. "I guarantee you I'm faster than you. I hit harder than you, I move better than you and I've got a bigger set of balls." Before Rockhold signed to make his Misfits Boxing debut, his first bout of 2025 appeared to be an MMA return for a would-be rematch against old rival Chris Weidman. That fight was set to be within the upstart Global Fight League (GFL), which never got off the ground due to ambitious financial promises. In hindsight, Rockhold admits he never knew whether he'd actually get a chance to fight for the promotion, but was happy to accept the money GFL offered him. He also isn't closing the door on the sport he made his name in, he just wants to focus on the sweet science for the time being. "I was there for the GFL to get paid," Rockhold said. "Everybody else thought it was going to happen. I was getting paychecks, I made money. I was getting paid, dog. They were dishing out seven-figure paychecks on the schedule that were made for non-UFC champions. You gotta think like, that's not going to be feasible. How are you going to keep that business up and running when those guys are getting paid that much? There's not enough revenue to counteract that. So, I was taking the paychecks and moving on. "Boxing is what I want to do, and I never close the door on MMA, but it's nice to take a break and I want to box for a little bit."

NASCAR at Dover: Why this 3-time winner has most to prove. Is Katherine Legge racing?
It's almost hard to fathom that in the 56 years of auto racing at Dover Motor Speedway, there has been only one other race weekend held in July − the first one, on July 6, 1969. Yet that will happen again the weekend of July 18-20 when Dover hosts its annual race weekend, beginning July 18 with the General Tire 150 in the ARCA Series, followed July 19 with the BetRivers 200 as part of the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and culminating July 20 with the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400, a key race in the NASCAR Cup Series. Dover Motor Speedway officials are not treating this opportunity as an, ahem, day at the beach. For the fans who attend, that's a different story, literally. They use this instead That's because "Miles Beach" will make its debut near the iconic "Miles the Monster" monument. Miles Beach will have more than 600 tons of sand and all the accoutrements to go along with a day at the beach. That includes a stage with reggae music, a tiki hut, mini-boardwalk, a 25-foot lighthouse, the world's largest Rubber Duck (60 feet tall and weighing 15.5 tons), sand sculptures, dunk tanks, and more. "We couldn't take the race to the beach, so let's see if we can bring the beach to our track," Dover Motor Speedway president and general manager Mike Tatoian said. "Now that we're in the summer, and the kids are out of school, obviously we're accentuating the beach, which is one of Delaware's most beautiful natural assets. "We're trying to create a beach atmosphere without actually going to Rehoboth or Lewes. We're having a lot of fun with that." It's quite a contrast to what Dover has been able to offer in the past. From 2022-24, the race was held the last weekend of April. In 2022 and 2023, the Sunday races were postponed because of rain. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Dover hosted two races each year − one in the spring, usually in May or early June; the other in September. It was hard for the speedway to appeal to the beach crowd, or to hold activities around the track that lasted much into the evening because the weather either hadn't warmed up yet, or had already started to cool off. But that's just one component of the race weekend. Here are the others: What's the schedule for racing at Dover Motor Speedway? July 18 at 5 p.m.: General Tire 150 ARCA Menards Series race (on FS1). July 19 at 4:30 p.m.: BetRivers 200 NASCAR Xfinity Series race (on The CW, Performance Racing Network). July 20 at 2 p.m.: Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 NASCAR Cup Series race (on TNT, Performance Racing Network). How to watch racing from Dover Motor Speedway on TV TNT will broadcast the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 beginning at 2 p.m., with radio coverage from PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. For TNT, Adam Alexander is the play-by-play announcer, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Steve Letarte serving as analysts. The pit reporters are Marty Snider, Danielle Trotta and Alan Cavanna. What's the weather forecast for the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400? The outlook for July 20 isn't great, with scattered thunderstorms expected in the morning, followed by mostly cloudy skies and potentially more thunderstorms in the afternoon. The National Weather Service is predicting a 70% chance of rain. The high temperature is expected to be 86 degrees and humid. Either way, the hot and humid summer weather will have an impact on the racing conditions on the concrete oval. "Being in July, the track is going to be hotter, slicker and theoretically should take more rubber," driver Ricky Stenhouse said. "If that happens, then I think the top side of the racetrack comes into play more. You should be able to pass a little better. But it'll also make the bottom of the racetrack very difficult because the rubber will build up, and then you start kind of sliding around on top of that rubber. "So it'll be tricky for sure." Who's winning the NASCAR In-Season Tournament Challenge? Dover's Cup Series event will be the fourth of five in NASCAR's first-ever In-Season Tournament Challenge, an in-season, bracket-style tournament in which the winning driver pockets $1 million. The tournament began June 28 at Atlanta Motor Speedway with 32 drivers seeded from No. 1 through No. 32, paired off against each other − No. 1 Denny Hamlin vs. No. 32 Ty Dillon, No. 2 Chase Briscoe vs. No. 31 Noah Gragson, and so on. The driver who performed better at a particular race advanced while the loser was eliminated. Dillon has advanced to the semifinals, held at Dover, where he'll take on No. 12 seed John Hunter Nemecheck. The other semifinal pits No. 23 seed Tyler Reddick against No. 6 Ty Gibbs. The winners advance to the finals July 27 in Indianapolis at the Brickyard 400. Who are the top drivers to watch? The In-Season Tournament Challenge between Gibbs and Reddick has perhaps the most on the line. Beyond the chance for the $1 million prize, Gibbs has to perform well in order to keep his playoff hopes alive. Sixteen drivers make the playoff field that is held over the final 10 races. There are five races left after Dover in the regular season. Individual race winners are granted a spot in the playoff field. Reddick is currently fourth in the standings, so he should be pretty safe for the playoffs. Gibbs, meanwhile, is 17th, just 10 points out of 16th. But he has not won a race this season. As for other drivers, Kyle Busch has the most victories at Dover. He's 15th in the standings and has not won a race. Other drivers to watch include Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott, who have each won twice at Dover. Elliott is currently second in the standings, while Hamlin is in fifth place. That leaves Shane van Gisbergen, who won on the road course at Sonoma, California, on July 13. It was his third victory of the season, all on road courses. He has not been nearly as successful on traditional tracks. That's why van Gisbergen is in 26th place in the standings. While van Gisbergen is in the playoffs based on his three victories, he needs a strong showing at Dover to prove that he will be a legitimate threat in the postseason races. Is Katherine Legge racing at Dover? Legge became the first woman to compete in a NASCAR Cup Series event since Danica Patrick in 2018 when she debuted at Phoenix back in March. Legge, who's 44 years old, has raced in four Indy 500s during a racing career that has spanned more than 20 years. In the Cup Series, Legge has only entered four races so far. She finished 19th on the road course in Chicago on July 6, the highest finish for a woman since Patrick in 2017. Legge is also racing in several Xfinity Series races this season. She will race in both the Xfinity and Cup series races July 26-27 at the Brickyard 400, but she will not be racing at Dover. Legge also competes in the ARCA series, but she will not be at Dover for the General Tire 150. Celebrate the Eagles' Super Bowl win with our new book Why is ESPN SportsCenter at Dover?
