SABC to broadcast second Test between Springboks and Italy
This comes after Saru, SuperSport and the SABC confirmed a broadcast agreement to ensure the match, which marks the 30th anniversary of the Springboks' historic 1995 Rugby World Cup victory, is available on the national broadcaster.
'The 1995 triumph was a moment that captured the attention of the world — revealing unmatched power of sport to bring people together, to heal deep wounds and to inspire a country that was still finding its feet as a young democracy,' said SA Rugby president Mark Alexander. 'As Saru, we are working closely with our broadcasters to ensure that all South Africans can be part of this historic occasion.'
SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli said it was important for South Africans to watch key sporting events.
'The public broadcaster extends its appreciation to Saru and SuperSport for the spirit in which negotiations took place, to enable us to broadcast this historic match. It is important that the SABC is not left out of key national sporting events, which bring the nation together and rugby has been very instrumental in doing that.
'This agreement also highlights the reach that the public broadcaster has in universal access to the nation through its TV and radio platforms, as millions of South Africans will have an opportunity to witness this historic moment.
'We call upon all South Africans to tune in, as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Rugby World Cup win in 1995.'

Junior Boks beat England at U20 Championship

Picture:The Junior Springboks overturned an early 14-point deficit to claim a bonus-point win against England at the World Rugby U20 Championship in Rovigo on Friday. The 32-22 triumph took South Africa to the top of Pool A with 10 points. England are second on five points, along with third-placed Australia, who beat winless Scotland 34-24 earlier in the day. The final round of pool matches take place on Wednesday, with the Junior Boks up against Scotland (3.30pm SA time) and England taking on Australia (6pm). Both teams came into this match on the back of big opening wins, with South Africa smashing Australia 73-17 and defending champions England hammering Scotland 56-19. But it was England who carried on from where they left off last Sunday, with tries to scrumhalf Jonny Weimann and flanker Connor Treacy giving them a 14-0 lead after 10 minutes. Junior Boks fight back The Junior Boks hit back with a brilliant try from Cheswill Jooste, who ran the perfect angle off his wing to split the defence of England, who had sloppily conceded a scrum after knocking on from a quick penalty tap. Shortly after, another dazzling Jooste run resulted in a try to scrumhalf Hassiem Pead that reduced the deficit to two. England wing Jack Bracken then capitalised on a risky in-field pass from Junior Boks replacement Jaco Williams to score. But Williams made amends by putting fullback Gilermo Mentoe over for a try that flyhalf Vusi Moyo converted to levelled the scores. England took a 22-19 lead into the break after a penalty goal from No 10 Ben Coen, but two from Moyo – the second from 55m – put the Junior Boks in front for the first time. Pead then scored an outstanding individual try from just outside his 22, converted by Moyo, to extend the lead to 10. Centre Gino Cupido was yellow-carded with 10 minutes to go, but the Junior Boks' defence stood firm and they ended the game on England's tryline. Durban teens honoured to represent South Africa at World Gymnastics Champs

Five Durban teenagers arrived back in South Africa this week after competing at the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior World Championships in Bulgaria, a trip they say brought them pride, perspective, and lifelong friendships. Abigail Smulders, Riley Gouws, Hanna Faith Chengiah, Naluthando Mbelu, and Thandolwethu Mthiyane, all aged 14, represented South Africa at one of the sport's biggest international events for juniors. While they didn't return with medals, they say the experience was unforgettable, and one they'll carry into their future as gymnasts and young women. Speaking to the Independent on Saturday, the girls reflected on the excitement of walking into the arena in their South African colours, performing in front of a global audience, and soaking up every moment of their time in Sofia. Just hours after returning home, Hanna Chengiah, from Eden College Durban, was already back in the gym preparing for the SA Gym Games in October, where she has previously claimed top honours. She competed in Bulgaria despite injuries to her back and shin splints in both legs. 'I learnt that there's always more to learn,' she said, impressed by the high standard of teams from around the world. A personal highlight for Hanna was meeting Bulgarian star Stiliana Nikolova, one of her role models in the sport. Abigail Smulders, from Danville Park Girls' High School, said the lead-up to the competition was intense, with the girls spending every spare moment rehearsing their routines, while also fitting in schoolwork. 'My favourite part was the day after we competed, watching the finals. The top eight gymnasts in each apparatus were just incredible to see,' she said. 'Another highlight was exploring the city with the team. I'm so grateful I got to share it with such an amazing group of girls. They feel like sisters to me now.' Riley Gouws, from Our Lady of Fatima, said they trained up to 16 hours a week before leaving for Bulgaria. The hard work was demanding, but it paid off in team spirit and friendship. 'We all got really close. I've made friends I'll keep for life,' she said. 'One thing I've taken from this is that you need the right mindset to compete. If you don't believe in yourself, you won't perform your best.' Thandolwethu Mthiyane, from Durban Girls' High School, was struck by how warmly South Africans are viewed in Bulgaria. She said it was an honour to represent the country abroad, but staying focused in a high-pressure environment was a challenge. 'There were so many distractions. You have to block everything else out and just remember why you're there. Once you've finished your routine, that's when you can take it all in.' Naluthando Mbelu, from Maris Stella School, known as the 'mom' of the group and said their club routine was especially well received. 'The crowd loved it. We got so much applause,' she said. 'We weren't thinking about the scores, we were just proud to show people what we had prepared, and to represent South Africa.' She also spoke about the financial effort behind getting the team to Europe; which cost about R50 000 for each of them. 'Our parents worked like crazy to try and get us the money to go to Bulgaria.' Their fundraising efforts included raffles, selling goods, donations, and Back-a-Buddy campaign. 'This was my last competition as a junior. I turn 15 this year, so I'll move into the senior level next year. Competing at the Junior World Championships for a second time was just incredible,'Naluthando said.
