Rashford is up for sale after falling out with Ruben Amorim and would cost £40million after returning on loan from Aston Villa.
Liverpool are on the hunt for a new forward as they try to offload Darwin Nunez and have allegedly added Rashford to their shortlist.
Arne Slot's preferred choice is Newcastle's Alexander Isak, with the Premier League champs launching a move on Tuesday.
But Toon are adamant they will not sell their £150million-rated striker.

And that's seen Liverpool explore other options as they also resist Bayern Munich's efforts to sign Luis Diaz.
It's claimed that Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Brentford's Yoane Wissa are being targeted at home.
While abroad, Liverpool fancy the looks of Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike and Real Madrid's Rodrygo.
However, the Reds are also being linked with an incredible shock move for Rashford.

It's alleged his name has been 'floated as an idea' at Anfield, but it's one 'that has not progressed so far.'
Whether Liverpool follow up on their reported initial interest remains to be seen.

But should they do, it would mark the first transfer between the Reds and rivals United for 61 years.
The last player to switch between the two was Phil Chisnall, who left Old Trafford for Anfield in 1964.
That almost ended in 2007 when United's Gabriel Heinze demanded a move to Liverpool after falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson.
But the legendary manager refused to cave in and instead sold Heinze to Real Madrid.
There have been instances of players starring for both United and Liverpool without transferring directly between the two.
Paul Ince left United for Inter Milan in 1995 after two title wins.
But he was soon back in England when Liverpool came calling in 1997.
Elsewhere, Michael Owen scored 158 goals for his boyhood Merseyside club before joining Real Madrid in 2004.
A year later he signed for Newcastle and ended up moving to United in 2009, where he eventually won a Premier League title.

Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy remain in Wimbledon fever in lavish tennis getaway
Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy appeared to be bitten by the Wimbledon bug after taking in the action at SW19 before heading off to a Portuguese getaway and taking to the courts Peter Crouch and his wife Abbey Clancy clearly weren't over their tennis fever after taking in the action at SW19. The married couple were spotted the iconic grass courts this month to watch the Wimbledon finals. And it seems they have the bug for the sport as they picked up their rackets in a sunshine getaway. The duo were having a wail of a time on their Portuguese break as they took to the courts. The 6ft7 former Liverpool striker looked like he was intent on getting the better of his other half - and revelled in doing so. Wearing a loose-fitted cream t-shirt and shorts combo, the 44-year-old cheered his shots as he parried them back to his wife, 39. He shielded his eyes with a smart pair of sunglasses, with extra balls stuffed in his pocket for the game. Abbey didn't appear as into the sports session as her man and was seen resting with a drink in a takeaway coffee cup at the net. She opted for a fitted sportswear outfit of a black crop top and high-waisted leggings, which she tucked into white socks. She also donned a pair of designer shades for the outing on the blue sports courts. At one point she was seen with her grey sweater tied around her neck. Earlier in the month, the pair were seen cheering on their favourite tennis stars at SW19. They put on a very loved up display at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, where they were joined by their eldest daughter, Sophia Ruby. The pair have three younger kids too, Liberty Rose, Johnny, and Jack. While the couple currently have four kids, Abbey recently revealed she would quite happily have a fifth. The couple, who tied the knot 14 years ago, have been entertaining fans for years with their hilarious honesty and true affection for each other on their The Therapy Crouch podcast. And last month, Abbey opened up to OK! about her secret hopes to add to their brood. Revealing the best thing about parenting at this stage, model and former Strictly champion Abbey said at the time: "We're not walking round with two prams and two nappy bags! I love them when they're babies but with my sister and brothers and their partners and kids, we've got a proper ready-made little gang now." However, when probed on if they could ever have baby number five, Abbey laughed: "I'd have 10 kids if I could, but Pete is like, 'absolutely not'. I think he said he'll leave me if I bring another living thing into the house. "All the kids are in school now, so I could easily have a newborn, but my husband says 'no way'." Abbey also took aim at the rumour mill surrounding her family. Finding it funny what speculation is shared from their podcast, she said: "Well, it's very inconsistent, isn't it? "One minute we're living separate lives and the next we're having a fifth baby! I don't read the stories though, I only learn about them when I get a call from a relative asking, 'Are you and Pete splitting up?' or 'Are you having another baby?'

Why Liverpool and Newcastle have gone to war for £85m Hugo Ekitike: The 'next Thierry Henry', a natural goalscorer and big-game player - but with one catch
When Hugo Ekitike looked for all the world like he had joined Newcastle from Stade Reims three years ago, all the chatter among those in the North East was that they were signing the 'next Thierry Henry '. Football is famously reticent to overhype raw, unproven talents, but here was another premature comparison at least framed by what the eye could see.

Alexander Isak has been linked to Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea but who is the 13/8 favourite to land the Newcastle star?
Alexander Isak has become one of the hottest properties in football after yet another impressive campaign with Newcastle. The Swedish international scored 27 times in 42 games across all competitions last season, including 23 for Newcastle in the Premier League in just 34 outings under Eddie Howe. The 25-year-old was also a crucial cog of the Magpies machine that went all the way in the Carabao Cup to bring silverware back to Newcastle at long last. As a result of his stunning performances as arguably the best striker in the league - out-scoring Manchester City's Erling Haaland by a goal last term - he has been linked with a number of leading teams. Manchester United are currently priced at a very long 40/1, perhaps indicative of their malaise, and their financial situation, particularly having already spent over £60million on Matheus Cunha. Chelsea and European champions Paris Saint-Germain are the next least-likely sides to land Isak this summer according to Sky Bet, with odds of 25/1. Next up are Real Madrid, who have already added Trent Alexander-Arnold to their ranks from the Premier League this summer, though they aren't considered among the favourites at 22/1. Barcelona are the third-most likely side to snap up the Swedish international's services, with the Spanish champions priced at 9/1. Arsenal and Liverpool have been perhaps strongest-linked with the No 9, with both in the hunt for a goal-scorer to fortify their already strong attacking lines. But it is the current Premier League champions who are considered the favourites to sign Isak at 13/8, with Arsenal second with odds of 13/2. Sky Bet odds for clubs to sign Alexander Isak by September 2: Liverpool 13/8 Arsenal 13/2 Barcelona 9/1 Real Madrid 22/1 Paris Saint-Germain 25/1 Chelsea 25/1 Manchester United 40/1
