OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra surfaces in Geekbench with a confusing chipset choice

GSM Arena06-05-2025

Last week we heard that OnePlus is working on a third member of its Ace 5 family, following the already available Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro. Back then, this was rumored to use MediaTek's still-unannounced Dimensity 9400e SoC, which is the lower-bin of the 9400 family.
But now a new OnePlus device has surfaced in the Geekbench database, and this one is powered by the recently unveiled Dimensity 9400+, which is the higher-bin model of the 9400 family. And that's rather confusing, as it's rumored to be launching in China as the OnePlus Ace 5 Supreme Edition (such names usually get translated into English as "Ultra").

So we have an Ultra phone that's very close in its Geekbench scores to the OnePlus 10 Pro, but not quite there - as the Pro uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. Anyway, the presence of the Dimensity 9400+ is certain given the 3.73 GHz frequency of its Prime core - that is in fact the one quantifiable improvement it has over the 'vanilla' 9400, which topped out at 3.63 GHz.
The prototype which ran the benchmark had 16GB of RAM, but of course OnePlus could choose to offer it with other memory amounts as well. Unsurprisingly, it runs Android 15. This phone is rumored to be released in China by the end of this month. Unfortunately, international availability isn't a given. We'll keep you posted.

This Android brand could be the next to face U.S. trade restrictions

In a surprising twist, it looks like two members of the U.S. House of Representatives are asking the Commerce Department to investigate OnePlus over concerns that its smartphones may be sending user data to servers in China without permission. In a letter obtained by Reuters, Representative John Moolenaar, a Republican from Michigan, and Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat from Illinois, raised concerns based on a recent analysis provided to the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. According to the letter, the analysis suggests that OnePlus devices might collect and transmit large amounts of user data to servers located in China. This could include sensitive personal information and may be happening without the user's knowledge or consent. The lawmakers are urging the Commerce Department to consider adding OnePlus to the U.S. Entity List. This list limits companies' access to American-made technologies and has previously included other Chinese firms like Huawei, DJI, and TikTok's parent company ByteDance. Being added to the list would place restrictions on OnePlus and its ability to do business with U.S. companies. OnePlus 13. | Image credit — PhoneArena As of now, the Commerce Department has not provided more info, and OnePlus also has not issued a public statement addressing the claims. As you may be aware, OnePlus is based in Shenzhen, China, and is a subsidiary of BBK Electronics, which also owns Oppo, Vivo, and Realme. While OnePlus has built a reputation in markets like the U.S. and Europe for offering high-spec smartphones at competitive prices, its Chinese roots continue to draw attention amid rising concerns over data privacy and foreign influence. This situation mirrors past investigations and actions taken by the U.S. government against Chinese tech companies believed to pose national security risks — Huawei, for example. Lawmakers in both parties have increasingly raised questions about how international tech firms collect, store, and share user data, especially if those firms are subject to foreign government regulations. It is not yet clear if the Commerce Department will move forward with an investigation, but the request from Moolenaar and Krishnamoorthi highlights growing concern in Washington over digital privacy and security. From my perspective, the call for an investigation reflects a broader trend of caution toward Chinese tech brands. However, it is important that any actions taken are based on clear evidence and transparency. If there is proof of unauthorized data transfers, then regulatory action may be justified — but fair review and due process must come first. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! Oppo Reno15 details leak with major shake-ups

Before you hit up the comment section to inform us, YES, we are well-aware that the Reno14 and Reno14 Pro were only launched in China last month and have just begun their international rollout, with upcoming launches in Malaysia on July 1 and India on July 3. This is all to say that the Reno15 family is still a ways off from announcement. That said, it appears to be far enough in development for some details to start leaking. Industry insider Digital Chat Station has suggested that the Reno15 and Reno15 Pro are already being tested with 200MP main cameras on board. That's up from the 50MP shooters on the Reno14 line. Quite the potential upgrade. Both phones are also tipped to have a periscope telephoto, which is not surprising given that both Reno14 models have one. Reno15 info In a potentially more interesting possible development, the source also hints at a substantial downsizing for both phones. Allegedly, the regular Reno15 will feature a 6.3-inch display, effectively making it a 'compact' device by modern standards. Definitely smaller than the 6.59 inches of the Reno14. The Reno15 Pro will also apparently be downsized to 6.78 inches, compared to the 6.83 inches of the Reno14 Pro. Last but not least, Digital Chat Station claims that Oppo is considering new flagship hardware for the pair. We aren't sure exactly what that entails, but he does mention wireless charging and metal middle frames, so there's that. Source (In Chinese) | Via
