Prohibition Of Ihram, Fiqh Law Of Women - Most Frequently Asked Questions By Malaysian Pilgrims
MAKKAH, May 16 (Bernama) — Questions regarding the prohibition of ihram and the fiqh law of women are among the most frequently asked questions by Malaysian pilgrims to Tabung Haji's facilitators or guides in the Holy Land (PIHTAS) during the 1446H/2025M haj season.
TH Haj Guidance Operations director Shahrin Awaludin said they started asking the questions via the e-Taib digital platform even before arriving in the Holy Land and continued to do so, with even more questions, after they arrived.
"Like in previous years, the most popular questions are about the prohibitions of ihram, such as the use of perfumes, as well as matters related to women's fiqh, especially the law of entering ihram while menstruating," he said when met by the media, here.
He said such concerns arose because many pilgrims, especially women, are performing the haj pilgrimage for the first time and in situations that they may have never experienced before.
"Many are worried that their worship will not be valid. But it is important to know that women who are menstruating still need to make the 'niat' (intention) for ihram at the miqat as usual, because only the tawaf needs to be postponed until they are pure (period ends), other pillars of haj can still be carried out," he said
In this regard, Shahrin said that to facilitate easier access to religious guidance, TH has provided a digital platform called e-Taib through the THhujjaj application, enabling pilgrims to interact directly with prayer guides online.
'TH has also appointed more than 40 haj guides, with 30 in Makkah and 10 in Madinah, in addition to three expert consultants from the Haj Advisory Committee who have also been brought to the Holy Land to assist in addressing any legal or religious issues that may arise,' he said.
He said the prayer guidance programme in the Holy Land would continue until the first of Zulhijjah, after which operations will be extended to 24 hours a day to ensure every pilgrim receives adequate support and guidance during the peak days of haj.

Half of KLIA 2's autogates down with technical glitch, autogates elsewhere unaffected
JOHOR BARU: Long queues have been reported at the KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 arrival hall after a technical glitch caused at least half of its automatic gate system to crash since late Wednesday (July 23). It is learnt that at press time, additional Immigration officers have been deployed to clear the arriving airline passengers via manual counters. Security sources said that KLIA 2 has a total of 10 autogates at the arrival hall and another 10 at departure. However, the source said that the autogates at KLIA 1, totalling about 100 units, were functioning properly. 'So far Malaysian passport holders seem to be able to use the autogates while foreigners are having problems,' the source said, adding that the problem now was mainly at KLIA 2 and the other autogates nationwide were operational. The latest incident comes just days after the July 18 incident when more than 200 autogates nationwide were down for more than 24 hours affecting more than 500,000 foreigners. More than half of those affected were from Johor mainly at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ complex (KSAB) at the Second Link. Last week's nationwide autogate glitch was due to a technical issue related to integration between the MyIMMS system database and the database of an international authoritative body. Meanwhile checks in Johor Baru showed that at all the autogates, totalling 39 units for exit and 29 for entry at BSI while KSAB's 12 were all in operation. Since June 1, 2024, visitors from 63 countries, as well as diplomats serving in Malaysia and their family members, have been eligible to use the autogates for faster clearance.

Tabung Haji goes digital: 80pct of transactions now online
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 80 per cent of Tabung Haji (TH) transactions are now conducted through online and electronic platforms, reflecting a growing preference among depositors for digital services that offer greater convenience and save time. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said TH would continue to explore ways to enhance its services for the 9.68 million depositors nationwide. He also dismissed rumours suggesting the closure of some TH branches. "Currently, TH operates 107 branches across the country, with none being closed. However, underutilised branches with very low transaction volumes will be replaced by a new initiative called Tabung Haji Gerak. "Tabung Haji Gerak is a mobile service counter that moves from place to place. Its schedule will be published on social media and TH's website to ensure the public can access it easily," he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abd Muttalib (PN–Maran) regarding rumours of branch closures. Commenting on the use of the Saudi Visa Bio system for haj pilgrims, Zulkifli acknowledged that a small number of Malaysians had encountered difficulties registering their biometric data via the application. "This was due to technical factors such as incompatible mobile devices, inaccurate facial or fingerprint scans, and the need for periodic system upgrades to stay current with the latest developments." He said that Malaysia was one of the first eight countries globally — alongside Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, Tunisia and Morocco — selected by the Saudi government to pilot the Saudi Visa Bio application. "This is a recognition for Malaysia as a pioneer in this digital initiative introduced by the Saudi authorities to facilitate visa issuance." For the 1446H/2025M haj season, TH has taken several proactive steps to assist pilgrims in using the application effectively. "TH provided comprehensive guidance through its official portal, including instructions on downloading and using the Saudi Visa Bio app, complete with step-by-step registration procedures and tips to ensure a smooth process." Zulkifli added that briefing sessions were held during basic haj courses nationwide, and clear instructions were also provided in the haj offer letters issued to pilgrims. "According to TH records, all eligible Malaysian haj pilgrims have successfully obtained their visas, including those who initially faced technical issues, thanks to direct assistance from the Saudi Embassy and TH," he said.

KLIA, Penang airport add five new international routes in June
KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Penang International Airport expanded their international connectivity in June 2025 with the addition of five new routes. Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said two of the new routes are operated by new airline partners, namely Cambodia Airways and China's Juneyao Air. Cambodia Airways launched twice-weekly flights between Phnom Penh and Penang, while Juneyao Air began four weekly flights connecting Shanghai and KLIA, enhancing travel options from China. Three more routes were introduced by existing partners, Batik Air Malaysia, AirAsia Cambodia and AirAsia. "Batik Air commenced a twice-weekly service between KLIA and Dili, Timor-Leste; AirAsia Cambodia introduced a thrice-weekly route from KLIA to Sihanoukville; and AirAsia began four weekly flights between KLIA and Darwin, Australia," MAHB said. The airport operator reported that its network, which includes Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (ISG) in Türkiye, handled 12.7 million passenger movements in June. Of this, Malaysian airports contributed 8.5 million passenger movements, comprising 4.2 million international and 4.3 million domestic travellers. This accounted for 68 per cent of the total. ISG registered 4.1 million passenger movements, including 2.2 million international and 1.9 million domestic travellers. MAHB also noted improved traffic at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, with total passenger movements rising nine per cent to 151,000 in June from 138,000 in May. "International passenger movements rose over 10 per cent to 40,000 from 36,000, while domestic movements increased nearly nine per cent from 102,000 to 111,000," it said. The growth was attributed to strong load factors of over 70 per cent on key regional routes operated by Firefly Airlines to Seletar, Scoot to Changi and TransNusa Airlines to Jakarta.
