Delhi Confidential: Alliance signal

There may be voices within the party against an alliance with Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh, but Congress leaders in Uttar Pradesh have got a signal from Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi that the alliance is going to stay. In a post in Hindi on X on Tuesday, Rahul wished SP president Akhilesh Yadav on his birthday, saying '…we will fight shoulder-to-shoulder for justice and equality'. This led to discussions in Congress circles in Lucknow that they needed to be cautious while commenting on the alliance and Samajwadi Party. Uttar Pradesh goes to polls in 2027. Gathering Pace With the BJP organisational elections gathering steam, insiders say the entire exercise will be completed by this month. According to party leaders, presidents have been appointed in eight states in the last two days, adding to the 14 state chiefs already appointed. Two more announcements are likely coming on Wednesday and another one the following day, making the total number to 25, more than the required to go for the national president's election. However, a number of politically crucial states are still to get a chief, most prominent being Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Gujarat. Kolkata Hackathon Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav was in Kolkata on Monday for the finale of a 110-hour national hackathon that sought solutions to tackle challenges to biodiversity and climate change. Yadav awarded a cash prize of `1 lakh to the winners. Last year, the ministry had organised a hackathon seeking ideas from students to tackle local environmental issues using technology.

Raj & Uddhav ‘hosts' of July 5 rally, says MNS on poster

Mumbai: The MNS on Tuesday released a poster with names of both Uddhav and Raj Thackeray as hosts of the July 5 "victory rally" to be held at the NSCI Dome in Worli to celebrate the scrapping of the government resolutions (GRs) making Hindi the third language to be taught in state schools from Class 1. This is the first time the MNS has named Uddhav on its poster, making it official that Uddhav and Raj will share the stage at the rally. The poster with their names led to talk that an alliance between the two Thackeray cousins was a real possibility ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls and not merely a question of speculation. "I have discussed with MNS chief Raj Thackeray and our party chief Uddhav Thackeray. We have decided to hold the rally at NSCI Dome. Sena (UBT) had earlier chosen Shivaji Park. We have submitted a request to the BMC for this. However, I do not think this govt will allow us to hold a victory rally at Shivaji Park. Therefore, Raj Thackeray suggested the option of the Dome, which everyone has agreed to," he said. Raut also said the BJP-led Mahayuti govt should stop misleading people of the state, referring to CM Devendra Fadnavis' claim that Uddhav Thackeray had as CM accepted recommendations of the Dr Raghunath Mashelkar committee to introduce a three-language policy from Class 1 and set up a committee on the policy's implementation. Functionaries from Sena (UBT) like MP Arvind Sawant, MLC Anil Parab and MLA Varun Sardesai and MNS functionaries Nitin Sardesai, Sandeep Deshpande and Bala Nandgaonkar are in talks. Nana Patole slams BJP, defends farmers after suspension from assembly

Nagpur: Senior Congress leader launched a strong attack on former minister Babanrao Lonikar and Prime Minister Narendra on Tuesday over recent remarks perceived as insulting to farmers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Patole stated, "Modi may be the messiah of BJP and Lonikar, but he cannot be the messiah of farmers." The former MPCC president was on Tuesday suspended for one day from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for addressing farmer issues. He made the statement outside the House, asserting he had no regrets. "I threw away my Lok Sabha membership for farmers. What is a one-day suspension? I'm ready to give up my MLA post and even my life if it helps farmers," Patole told TOI. He added that he would continue to rake up many issues related to the farmers in Maharashtra and particularly in Vidarbha daily in the session and continue to fight to ensure justice to them. "This BJP-led govt has forgotten its election promise to wave off farmers loans," he said. The controversy arose from a recent comment by Lonikar, who claimed that Modi provides everything to farmers, including money for sowing, clothes, and mobile phones. Patole mocked the statement. Patole, the Sakoli MLA, further accused the ruling BJP of being fundamentally anti-farmer. "Agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate has repeatedly disrespected farmers — first by comparing them to beggars, then by advising them to use debt relief funds for their children's weddings," he said. "These people came to power promising loan waivers, minimum support prices, and 24-hour free electricity. Today, they insult the very people they promised to serve. This is arrogance of power," Patole added, demanding public apologies from both Lonikar and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for their party's treatment of farmers. Despite the suspension from the Assembly, Patole remained defiant. "They can try to silence me as much as they want, but I will not back down from fighting for farmers," he said.
