GCC education ministers meeting in Kuwait

KUWAIT: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the Ninth Meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries which was held in the sisterly State of Kuwait, on Monday.
Oman's delegation to the meeting was headed by Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education.
The meeting discussed several topics related to enhancing cooperation and integration between the ministries of education in the GCC countries. It reviewed the Gulf Strategy for Combating Drugs for the 2025-2028 period which included numerous proposals for developing educational and training programmes in the educational field.
The meeting also discussed ways of developing the work of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) to ensure its contribution to supporting the work of the ministries of education and keeping pace with current and future changes and developments in education.
Regarding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the meeting agreed that the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States should include some of the national indicators being developed by the ministries of education in the GCC countries in the reports on the fourth goal of the UN goals highlighting the role of the GCC countries globally.
The meeting reviewed the strategic plan of the GCC Scouts and Guides Committee for the years 2026-2030 which included domestic and international programmes and activities for scouts and guides. The meeting also discussed the study being conducted by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States on promoting financial literacy among school students.
In addition, the meeting reviewed a number of initiatives presented by the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding school sports, sports exchange for gifted and outstanding teachers in the GCC countries and the strategic transformation in general education. — ONA

Sambalpur: Union Education Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday participated in a mass plantation drive under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. While speaking to ANI, Pradhan stated that the plantation of trees under this initiative increased hope for nature, fulfilled the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and was also a significant step towards making India a net-zero country by 2070. He further stated that various schools, colleges, organisations and administrative offices came to turn the initiative into a movement. "On that occasion, planting trees in Sambalpur, increasing the hope for nature, fulfilling the SDG goals, and making India a net-zero country by 2070, is a significant step in that direction... Today, the Forest Department and the District Administration have brought together numerous schools, colleges, women's organisations, professional organisations, temple committees, youth organisations, and various administrative offices to turn 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' into a mass movement. I am thrilled..." Pradhan said, speaking to reporters here. Earlier, on June 27, Dharmendra Pradhan, along with Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, participated in the celebrations of Rath Yatra and offered prayers to Lord Jagannath. Speaking to the media, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan says, "The first ritual of the Jagannath Yatra has been completed. All three siblings have reached the chariots... I am satisfied with the arrangements made by the state government..." Earlier in the day, Union Ministers Pradhan and Shekhawat visited and appreciated the state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Puri, developed by the Odisha Police in collaboration with the homegrown startup IG Drones. The ICCC has been pivotal in ensuring safety and efficiency during the world-famous Rath Yatra, marking a significant milestone in modernised crowd and security management with 500 CCTVs, drones, anti-drone systems, and AI analytics. Thousands of devotees gathered in Puri to witness the grand spectacle, chanting hymns as the sweeping ritual marked the start of the deities' annual nine-day sojourn. The grand annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath commenced in Odisha's Puri on Friday, as thousands of devotees began pulling the majestic chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, amidst chants, drumbeats, and spiritual fervour.

RIYADH: The Sultanate of Oman took part in the 28th meeting of heads of GCC states' legislative departments held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), on Wednesday. Oman was represented at the meeting by Dr Yahya bin Nasser al Khusaibi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs. The meeting reviewed the strategy of the Permanent Committee of Officials of GCC Legislative Departments, in addition to the recommendations of the working group entrusted with listing legislative principles that were issued by GCC legislative departments. The meeting discussed the recommendations of the GCC Committee of Experts and Specialists about four main draft laws: The draft GCC unified law on the 'Montreal protocol on controlled substances that deplete the ozone layer and their alternatives"; The draft executive regulation on the GCC unified law for the management of plant genetic resources; The draft GCC unified law for organic inputs and products; and The draft GCC unified law on meteorology. By virtue of the powers assigned to it under Royal Decree No 88/2020, the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs represents the Sultanate of Oman at meetings of the GCC Permanent Committee of Legislative Departments. - ONA
