Italian builders insisted the ship was virtually unsinkable and suggested the crew may have been at fault. Speculation circulated that someone could have left a hatch open during the storm. An interim report by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch said the yacht had a 'vulnerability' to lighter winds but the owner and crew would not have known. It added it had 'limited verified evidence' as the criminal probe in Italy had restricted its access. Italian prosecutors are conducting a criminal investigation into the yacht's sudden sinking. They are probing the ship's skipper New Zealand national James Cutfield, Brit chief engineer Tim Parker Eaton, and deckhand Matthew Griffiths, for potential manslaughter and causing a shipwreck. The new data pulled from the boat's AIS appears to suggest it happened an hour earlier at around 4am. Some 15 of the 22 onboard were rescued, 11 of them scrambling onto an inflatable life raft that sprung up on the deck. A smaller nearby boat - named Sir Robert Baden Powell - then helped take those people to shore. The huge £20million recovery undertaking was plagued by delays and Robcornelis Maria Huijben Uiben, 39, died when working 160ft below the ocean alongside other workers - just days after recovery operations began. This prompted some locals to believe that the sunken ship is "cursed". Floating cranes, remote-controlled robots, and specialist divers amongst other marine experts were brought in to recover the vessel. Tributes pour for young man killed after being deliberately run down in Ballymun
A young man died after being deliberately run down by a car in the early hours of Saturday morning in what is believed to be part of a vicious gangland feud. Kevin Kelly, who was in his early 20s, was killed instantly after he was struck by the vehicle on Balbutcher Lane in Ballymun, North Dublin. It is understood there is an ongoing feud in the area between two gangs which are made up of mostly young men in their early twenties. Gardaí and emergency services arrived on Balbutcher Lane around 5am and Mr Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed afterwards and technical examinations were carried out by garda forensic experts. Kevin Kelly was well known in the area and is believed to have been aligned with one group which was feuding with another gang. Local Fianna Fail Councillor Keith Connolly described the incident as a tragedy and added that the deceased man's home had been attacked during the week. He said: 'As far as I know this wasn't an accident…his house was targeted during the week. There is complete shock in the area and anyone who has any information should contact An Garda Siochana. 'My sincere condolences to his family and friends, this was a terrible thing to happen. We have a meeting on Monday with the Guards and I'm sure they will have an update then.' It is understood that the feud involves one gang based around the Poppintree area of Ballymun and another in Shangan. Social Democrat Councillor Mary Callaghan said the entire community is in shock. She said: 'It is a tragic loss and the whole community is feeling it. My heartfelt condolences go out to Kevin's family and friends at this very difficult time.' Pals of Mr Kelly took to social media to pay tribute to him and condemn those who may have been responsible for his death. One friend stated on Facebook: 'Rip my little friend, too good for this life kiddo gonna miss you terribly. 'Always a smile on the worst days, always after an owl spud some memories with you bro around me since you're a baby. Better be with the boys watching over us all.' Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward. In particular, they are looking to speak with people who were in the Balbutcher Lane and Balcurris Park areas, between 4am and 5am, including those with camera or dash-cam footage. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballymun Garda Station at 01 6664400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station. This is the second man to die this week after being deliberately run down by a car. Mircea Rostas, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene on Railway Street, Balbriggan last Monday night after being hit by a car. A man has since appeared in court in connection with the incident. The arrests, which took place this afternoon, come after damage was caused to two aircraft at RAF Brize Norton on June 20. On Thursday, a 29-year-old woman and two men aged 36 and 24, both from London, were also arrested in connection with this investigation. Video posted online at the time showed two yobs from Palestine Action vandalising Voyager aircraft at the base. Then, a loud thumping sound loud thumping sound can be heard as the camera pans to the activist's scooter - also showing red paint on the tarmac next to the aircraft at the Oxfordshire base. The pair of activists can then be seen roaming free across the grounds of the airbase on electric scooters as they "evaded security". "They put their lives on the line for us, and their display of duty, dedication and selfless personal sacrifice are an inspiration to us all. "It is our responsibility to support those who defend us." Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack as "disgraceful". Advertisement In a post on social media condemning the UK's military action in the Middle East, Palestine Action referenced RAF flights over Gaza departing from the force's base - RAF Akrotiri - in Cyprus. It also claimed its activists had put the supply planes "out of service" while managing to "evade security and arrest".
