A Weather Alert Day is set for Monday
A storm system over the northern Gulf coast is fueling things along with our seabreezes, though the cooler day we had for Mother's Day and Monday will hopefully work to reduce our overall severe threat.
Channel 9's Kassandra Crimi will keep track of morning rain and scattered afternoon storms for Monday.
Expect a possible 2-5″ of rain, and we'll monitor for any short-term flooding.
After this system moves by, we're looking at the hottest weather possibly of the entire year with highs well into the mid and maybe upper 90s later next week.

Tropics stay calm with no storms expected in the next week in Central Florida
The tropics remain quiet for now with no tropical activity expected over the next 7 days. Plenty of Saharan dust is preventing storm development in the central Atlantic. However, one area we are monitoring is off the Carolina coast, where warmer waters and favorable conditions are becoming more likely to support a possible tropical wave. The good news is that we do not expect a storm to develop and make landfall in the United States. If we observe any development, it will be a short-lived storm that moves off into the north-central Atlantic. We will be watching this area closely, especially in the middle of this upcoming week, when we will have a much clearer picture than we do now. FORECAST: Afternoon storms roll in ahead of weekend's cold front
ABOVE: The latest forecast update from Severe Weather Center 9. To stay on top of changing weather conditions, be sure to download our free WSOC-TV weather app. FORECAST: Another day of heat and humidity across our area with highs again in the low to mid 90s and a heat index at or above 100°. Scattered downpours fire up again this afternoon and like the last several days will last well into the evening. Then the changes start to come in. A cold front arrives on Friday and while it won't really cool us down just yet, it will provide more of a focus for storms. Best shot for heavy downpours on Friday will be on the south side of the area. We'll still be around 90 tomorrow afternoon and still plenty humid. Cooler air then moves in on Saturday with highs just around 80° and some light showers. Drier air comes in by Sunday and we stay close to 80°. Slightly warmer, but still in the 80s for the first half of next week. >> Channel 9's Weather 24/7 stream has the latest local weather all day, every day. Central Florida under heat advisory Wednesday
A heat advisory is in effect for all Central Florida counties on Wednesday. The heat index is expected to soar to between 105 and 110 degrees. Residents across Central Florida should prepare for another sweltering day, with peak heat index values likely to reach dangerous levels. The advisory comes as heat and humidity continue to pose significant concerns for the region. Scattered showers are anticipated to develop this afternoon, offering some temporary cooling, particularly in the late afternoon hours. Looking ahead, temperatures are forecasted to gradually decrease over the next few days, with highs returning to near seasonal levels by the weekend. This change is expected to bring some respite from the oppressive heat. Additionally, a nearby front will contribute to increased rain chances over the weekend, potentially offering further relief from the heat and humidity.
