Gauteng police intercept cache of arms destined for Western Cape
Two people have been arrested.

After intercepting a cache of weapons destined for the Western Cape, Gauteng police say they have 'broken the back of a syndicate involved in the trafficking of unlicensed firearms'.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team led an intelligence-driven operation in Meyersdal, south of Johannesburg, on Monday.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two people and the confiscation of 30 unlicensed 9mm pistols.
'The arrest of the 34 and 45-year-old suspects follows several days of surveillance and information gathering across provinces where suspects involved in the moving of unlicensed firearms were identified. As suspects collected the firearms, the team moved in for a coordinated tactical takedown in Meyersdal,' said Mathe.
'Further investigation confirmed the weapons were destined for the Western Cape, and the suspects intended to transport the unlicensed firearms themselves. Both suspects have been linked to various other cases in Gauteng and the Western Cape,' Mathe added.

The two people face multiple charges, including illegal possession and trafficking of firearms.
'Investigations are ongoing to track down more members of this illegal firearm trafficking syndicate,' Mathe said.
In March, the police's Anti-Gang Unit and Crime Intelligence officers in the Western Cape discovered explosives, firearms, and drugs at a storage facility in Bellville, Cape Town.

Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said police found three AK-47 rifles, two assault rifles, twelve 9mm pistols, three Uzi guns, four short guns, and two revolvers.
In addition, six M26 grenades were found along with 50 000 mandrax tablets and an assortment of ammunition.

Officers are supporting the woman's family at this difficult time. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner." Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman arrested on weapons charges, held without bail
Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman is being held without bail after he was arrested on weapons charges on Friday night, authorities confirmed. In a statement, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said deputies in South L.A. conducted a traffic stop on Perryman at about 9:30 p.m. for vehicle code violations. During that stop, deputies found five firearms inside the vehicle. Of those firearms, two were assault-style rifles. He was arrested on suspicion of weapons violation charges. Perryman was cooperative with deputies, the department said. He's currently being held without bail at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station. He's scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. In a joint statement, the Chargers and Perryman's agent said they are aware of a matter involving him and are gathering information. The extent of his potential charges are not yet clear. Perryman, 32, was drafted by the then-San Diego Chargers in 2015. He spent the first six seasons of his career with the franchise before brief stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. The former Pro Bowl linebacker returned to L.A. before the start of the 2024 season, when he started 11 games for the Chargers and served as a captain on the defense.

Man shot in Lauderhill while inside car. His uncle describes what he heard outside
Lauderhill police lights lit up the neighborhood early Saturday morning when they said they responded to a call that someone was shot on northwest 18th Place. Johnny Brinson Says he Didn't see it. But says he heard commotion outside while trying to sleep. "All of a sudden it sounds like someone was out there beating and tapping on a window. And I said who's so and so out there beating on that window like that? And it was four gunshots," Brinson said. Lauderhill police say they found a man with gunshot wounds that she suffered while he was in his car. Brinson says he's related to the victim. "My nephew had got shot. And was laying out on the ground hard," Brinson said. Police have not released the name of the victim and they're still searching for a motive in this shooting. So far investigators don't have any leads on suspects. The scene is clear, and investigators are still looking into what lead up to this shooting. Police say the victim should survive.
