Resintech FY25 profit doubles to RM17m on strong pipe system demand

The Sun29-05-2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Resintech Bhd, a leading manufacturer of plastic pipes, water tanks, and fittings, announced strong financial performance for its financial year ended March 31, 2025 (FY25).
The group's revenue increased by 17.94% year-on-year (YoY) to RM125.07 million from RM106.04 million in the previous year, driven primarily by robust demand for its pipe systems and strategic revenue streams, including rental and provision of labour and maintenance services.
Profit before tax (PBT) surged 107.98% YoY to RM17.02 million from RM8.18 million in FY24, underpinned by operational efficiencies, improved margins, and a fair value gain of RM5.29 million from investment properties, compared to a fair value loss of RM0.28 million in the previous year.
The group's profit after tax and minority interests (PATAMI) increased significantly to RM11.30 million, representing a 87.73% increase from RM6.02 million recorded last year, demonstrating the successful execution of Resintech's strategic initiatives and effective cost management.
For the fourth quarter (Q4) of FY25, Resintech reported revenue of RM29.33 million, an increase of 8.94% year-over-year (YoY) from RM26.92 million in Q4 FY24.
Profit before tax in Q4 increased significantly to RM7.39 million from RM2.71 million year-over-year (YoY), driven by operational improvements and a substantial fair value gain on investment properties.
Commenting on the strong financial results, Resintech managing director Datuk Dr Teh Kim Poo said the robust financial performance achieved this fiscal year reflects the team's consistent efforts in driving operational excellence and strategic growth initiatives.
'The sustained demand for our core plastic pipe systems, coupled with gains from strategic asset management, has considerably strengthened our profitability,' he said in a statement.
Resintech continues to strengthen its market leadership, particularly in the thriving water infrastructure and pipe systems segments.
The recent strategic initiatives, including significant capital investments in blow moulding machinery for East Malaysia markets, are expected to positively impact the group's topline and bottom line in the upcoming financial year.
'While we remain vigilant regarding the challenges posed by currency fluctuations and rising operational costs, our strategic investments, combined with steady market demand, position Resintech favourably for continued growth.
'Barring unforeseen circumstances, we expect our performance trajectory to remain positive,' Teh said.

Asean rises as a strategic fulcrum in changing world order

PUTRAJAYA, July 14 (Bernama): The 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings, which capped off successfully last Friday, undoubtedly strengthened Asean as a central player in regional diplomacy amid heightened geopolitical competition. Far from serving as a mere forum for dialogue, Asean has been increasingly seen as a key actor capable of shaping the future of regional stability and security, economic cooperation and in advancing multilateralism. As the host of the 58th AMM, Malaysia has demonstrated its diplomacy finesse, leading high-level discussions among Asean Foreign Ministers and with their external partners that included major powers such as the United States, China, Russia, the European Union, India and Japan. Universiti Sains Malaysia's Associate Professor of the School of Social Sciences, Dr Benny Teh Cheng Guan, said the involvement of major powers underscores Asean's critical role in regional diplomacy and navigating the evolving power dynamics of the Indo-Pacific. He said while Beijing wants to project itself as a reliable partner through consistent economic outreach, Washington has sought to reaffirm its commitment to the region by intensifying diplomatic engagement and balancing China's growing influence. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described his first engagement at the AMM as "extraordinary", as he stressed Washington's commitment to Asean as its primary diplomatic platform in Southeast Asia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, meanwhile, emphasised the importance of Asean as both a priority in its neighbourhood diplomacy and a foundational partner in promoting a shared regional future. He also reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to upholding a rules-based global order - anchored in United Nations (UN) principles - and pledged to continue supporting Asean's centrality in addressing regional challenges. "They are reassuring Asean of their commitment to the region, while underscoring the organisation's central role in regional diplomacy amidst big power rivalry. "It shows Asean's strength in setting the agenda and providing an indispensable platform for Asean members to strategically engage their counterparts on a wide range of issues deemed important to the bloc," Teh told Bernama. Teh also welcomed increasing global interests towards Asean, noting them as a positive development that highlights the bloc's growing influence. He said Asean's appeal stems from its unique combination of economic dynamism, political stability and a socially tech-savvy population, making the region an attractive partner in a shifting global landscape. "However, Asean should exercise caution to ensure any partnership expansion strengthens rather than burdens the bloc," he said. Teh added that the bloc must take proactive steps to reinforce its relevance, strengthen internal cooperation, and defend multilateral principles. "Asean should work closely with its dialogue partners to uphold a rules-based international order and defend multilateral norms, strengthen inter-ASEAN trade cooperation and collectively reject protectionism as well as push for reforms to deepen integration and diversify trade flows," he said. The four-day event, held under Malaysia's Asean Chairmanship 2025 with theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', witnessed important decisions that underscored the bloc's deep-rooted principle of unity, neutrality, and inclusivity. Among the highlights was the notable progress made on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Treaty. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said China will sign the Protocol of the SEANWFZ without reservation, as soon as all the documentation is ready. He also revealed that 'two to three' nuclear-weapon states (NWS) have also contacted Malaysia, as this year's Asean Chair, to resume earlier discussions on the treaty. On Myanmar, the AMM has reasserted the call for stakeholders to cease hostilities and violence, and engage in inclusive dialogue to de-escalate the ongoing crisis as precondition to holding elections. In line with this, Mohamad said he plans to go Myanmar in September to present the junta with a 'wishlist' aimed at restoring peace and democracy in the country. The AMM meeting reiterated support for Timor-Leste full accession to the bloc, which is expected to be announced in October. In conjunction with the meeting, Malaysia also co-hosted the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD IV) with Japan and Palestine on reconstruction in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Amid the broader agenda, a series of bilateral and trilateral meetings also took place between allies and rivals alike. One of the most closely watched meetings was between Rubio and Wang, marking their first in-person engagement since the former's appointment in January. Separately, Rubio also held a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, with discussions centred on global situations - including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as on the readiness of Moscow and Washington to resume their high-level cooperation. These diplomatic interactions were not only significant, but also deeply symbolic - reflecting Asean and Malaysia's vital role as conveners of dialogue in a time of global tensions. The ministerial-level meetings may have concluded, but diplomatic efforts continue in full swing behind the scenes, laying the groundwork for the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits that are taking place in October. - Bernama

SDB's CSR Mid Valley Megamall retail store set to further empower special needs community

SELANGOR Dredging Bhd's (SDB) flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, One-Two-Boost (OTB), has opened its first physical retail outlet at Mid Valley Megamall. It marks a major milestone in its mission to empower individuals with special needs through meaningful employment and inclusive community engagement. The store's official launch was officiated by Pathmanathan Nalasamy (left on main image) who is the director of the Development of Persons with Disabilities Department under the Department of Social Welfare Malaysia. 'The inclusion of persons with disabilities must be a shared responsibility. While the government continues to introduce policies and programmes to support their integration, it is heartening to see private sector leaders like SDB stepping up in meaningful ways,' he praised. 'Through strong public-private collaboration, we continue to build a society that values diversity, promotes dignity and ensures that no one is left behind in Malaysia's development journey.' Conceived and spearheaded by SDB managing director Teh Lip Kim herself, OTB was born out of a deeply personal desire to support and provide employment for individuals with special needs. 'What started as a small initiative has grown beyond what I imagined,' recalled Teh (second from right on main image). 'With this store, we aim to amplify OTB's true purpose – not just hy offering jobs – but raising awareness and building understanding between the special needs community and the public.' Initially launched as an online venture, OTB's expansion into a physical store reflects growing public support for its mission and the broader appeal of its holistic wellness offerings. The Mid Valley Megamall outlet showcases over 50 herbal-based products which are developed in collaboration with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) physicians. These include herbal drinks, immunity-boosting soups, balms and other products promoting holistic well-being. More than just a retail space, the store serves as a platform for awareness, inclusion and meaningful interaction by bridging the gap between the special needs community and the wider public. Pathmanathan and Teh also expressed their gratitude to Mid Valley Megamall for supporting OTB's mission by providing a prominent platform within one of Malaysia's most visited shopping destinations. 'The impact of this store is set to be immense,' envisages Teh. 'It serves as a venue where this community can gain confidence and independence, and where every customer encounter becomes a chance to break down stigma.' Teh added that the store creates a valuable space for the special needs team to gain exposure and develop interpersonal skills while offering the public an opportunity to engage meaningfully. 'What we need is more empathy, more kindness and above all, more hope,' she stressed. 'Each product on our shelves represents not just care and craftsmanship, but also courage – the courage of this community to show up, to grow and to be seen. 'Our hope is that every customer who walks through our doors leaves not only with something good for their body but something uplifting for the heart.' The day when SMI has all its AGM resolutions rejected by majority shareholders

PROPERTY developer South Malaysia Industries Bhd (SMI) which is facing backlash over governance concern has had all four resolutions proposed by its current board of directors 'rejected and voted down' during the company's 53rd annual general meeting (AGM) in Johor Bahru today (June 26). This decisive rejection came from proxies representing Target 1 Sdn Bhd, Honsin Apparel Sdn Bhd and HIQ Media (M) Sdn Bhd who collectively hold 50.05% of SMI's shares. 'Given this absolute majority, the outcome of the voting was effectively determined, rendering further polling unnecessary,' the company pointed out in a Bursa Malaysia filing 'Consequently, pursuant to an order from the Kuala Lumpur High Court dated June 20 arising from an application filed by (self-nominated director) Teh Chee Hoe, the AGM has been adjourned to a future date to be set by the Court. The four resolutions set out in SMI's Notice of the 53rd AGM were: To re-appoint Messrs UHY Malaysia PLT as auditors of the company until the conclusion of the next AGM at a remuneration to be determined by the directors; To approve the payment of directors' fees and benefits of up to RM350,000 to non-executive directors of the company and subsidiaries; To re-elect Latifah Abdul Latiff who is retiring by rotation given she has offered herself for re-election; and Authority to allot and issue shares in general pursuant to Sections 75 and 76 of the Companies Act 2016. 'This unprecedented outcome demonstrates shareholders' concerns regarding the governance and direction of the company, hence marking a pivotal moment for SMI and its stakeholders,' a market observer told FocusM. Earlier on June 17, SMI said it had rejected a proposal to nominate Teh and three others as directors at its AGM, citing violations of corporate and securities regulations. In a stock exchange filing, SMI had received the proposal on June 12 from Teh who nominated Ng Fun Kim, Ling Chi Hoong, Amy Tan Li Peng and himself for election to the company's board. 'Based on the investigations by the company, the SMI board of has been advised that Teh did not satisfy the requirements of Section 323 of the Companies Act 2016 (CA 2016),' noted SMI. 'Additionally, he (Teh) is also connected to Target 1 Sdn Bhd which has issued a notice of unconditional mandatory take-over offer dated Aug 20 on the company (SMI).' At the close of today's (June 26) market trading, SMI was down 0.5 sen or 1.54% to 32 sen with 1,000 shares traded, thus valuing the company at RM67 mil. – June 26, 2025
