KIYG 2025: Haryana fencing teams claim all three gold on final day of competition
Haryana thus ended the competition with seven gold, two silver and three bronze medals. Maharashtra finished with two gold, two silver and three silver. Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan picked up one gold medal each to be among the top five teams in the Fencing competition in this edition.
The Haryana girls epee team captain Deepanshi said the fencers were grateful for the coaching staff's efforts. 'Our team attributes its success to our coaches' training and guidance. This is my second consecutive gold medal in the team event, and I'm proud of our back-to-back victories,' she said.
Men's saber team captain Ujjwal was expectedly thrilled with his team's performance. 'It was my first time in Khelo India, and I was fortunate enough to secure the gold medal through teamwork and determination. I'd like to thank our coaches, Kapil sir, Rajpal Yadav sir, Narendra Singh sir, and Suresh sir, who were instrumental in our win,' he said.
Haryana Head Coach Narendra Singh beamed with pride. 'Our fencers played well, reflecting in our results. Haryana has consistently dominated previous Khelo India Youth Games editions, and this time was no different. I'm proud of each fencer's determination and mindset, which made this achievement possible,' he said.
This is the first time that Bihar hosted the Khelo India Youth Games, which features 27 types of games. As part of the event, a significant focus was on fencing, which was scheduled from May 11 to 15.

Despite representing only 2% of the country's population, Haryana's athletes contribute to 60% of India's medal wins at international competitions. Addressing the press conference at the Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh, the sports minister expressed pride that Haryana athletes have won medals in each of the past five Olympic Games, bringing home 15 medals and making the nation proud. In both phases of the event, a total of 2,102 medals will be awarded. The second phase will be held in the last week of August. The minister said that Haryana's Sports Mahakumbh will be bigger than many national-level sports events. He said around 8,000 athletes participate in the Khelo India Youth Games organised by the Sports Authority of India, while over 15,000 will compete in this Mahakumbh. Gautam assured that the selection of athletes from districts was conducted fairly under the supervision of district sports officers. Proper arrangements for food, kits, and accommodation have been made to ensure athletes face no inconvenience. Any athlete across the state can report issues related to facilities or technical arrangements directly to the special coordination committee formed under the additional sports director to oversee the event.

Pending aid to sports assns by Oct, says Sawant
Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday assured the House that pending grants of various sports associations in Goa — running into crores of rupees — would be cleared by Oct in all cases where utilisation certificates have been submitted by the associations to govt. Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai raised the issue in the House, stating that while the govt called football a state sport, Rs 11 crore aid is pending. He said that only Rs 2.5 lakh of the earmarked Rs 72 lakh for football over four years has been paid so far by govt. 'If you don't give grants, you will not get results. For associations of sports like athletics, boxing, badminton, and sepak takraw with a good number of members, no grants have been given by govt. Whereas, grants have been given to associations for yogasana and pencak silat, which have few or no members. For the Goa Badminton Association, Rs 10.8 lakh of grants have been kept pending. Why?' said Sardesai. The MLA also questioned the logic behind providing Khelo India Centres at only Sanquelim and Ponda. 'We will have Khelo India centres in all 12 talukas in a phased manner,' replied Sawant.
